Top Rated Nuke Alternatives
Nuke picks up where After Effects leaves off. Nuke is a node base compositing system. After Effects is layered based. Node-based is convenient for seeing the whole project at one time since it's a bunch of operations branched together. Meaning you can quickly go to the beginning of the project as well as the end. Unliked a layered stacked compositing system, the more layers added the more cumbersome it is to navigate through the project. It's even more difficult when you start to nestle sections of the project in other parts. So you have to leave one area to go to another area and you can no longer reference the area you were. In a Node-based compositor, everything is at your directed exposure. You only have to scroll to the area of the project you want to see. This paradigm makes easier for others to understand the project. So Node Base systems are better for bigger studios because anyone can work on the project just by glancing at the whole node-based layout.
The Node Base layout is a little intimidating but as soon as you understand this core visual element it becomes very advantageous. Also, Node base systems are common among other high-end visual effects software such as Houdini from SideFX. So once you like Nuke other advanced software becomes familiar as well. I'm not comparing After Effects to Nuke because as I mentioned at the core they are different. In general, After Effect is used by Indies or smaller studios, not big film houses. What I don't like has nothing to do with the software. It's generally the "Uppidity-ism" that follows the most advanced or high-end software. Most users who use this stuff think they are some kind of God or Mystical Magi. These types of useful software are usually shrouded in elitism. As if, you can't learn it or it's over your head when it's not. It's off-putting. Ignore it. Most software at its core is built on common real-world simple principles. I have found this in every software I have learned, including Maya, Houdini or even some bio-mechanical, algorithmic genetic evolution, artificially intelligent, motion dynamics system...in other words, Ragdolls. The principles are simple, so is Nuke. So ignore the big mega-brain mentally. Like every software I say, break it down to only the features you need. Then after you get used to that, go to another part. When I first used Nuke it was only to de-spherize HDRI chrome balls for Image-based lighting.
Yes, Nuke does some intense operations, but you don't need that level of sophistication to use it. My suggestion is to use PluralSight to get started. If you want to do more advanced Nuke studies then got to FXPhd. They tend to be more advance when it comes to film making so I won't start there. No bad reflection on them. There are just levels and beginning level info on Nuke you can find anywhere on YouTube. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The cost of acquiring Nuke licenses or maintaining them could be a downside for smaller studios or individual users, as it's considered high-end software with corresponding pricing structures.
