But, yes, there is one small thing that I would like to highlight: sometimes Notion takes some time to load on the browser. When I informed Notion that this was only a short collaboration and that I did not intend to add them to my plan, they refused to refund the additional $3,800 charge because it was past their “three-day grace period.” I do not recommend Notion’s service for any SME. I didn’t renew my annual subscription because I wanted to downgrade back to the free plan—a perfectly reasonable request. Instead of honoring that, Notion completely locked me out of my own account. I couldn’t even view my workspaces, despite the fact that I had already paid for over a year of service. For context: I used Notion every single day for both my work and personal life. It was my central hub. When I asked if they could simply switch me to a monthly plan (which I was willing to pay for), their support team flat-out refused. They were rigid, dismissive, and offered zero real solutions. Their so-called “export” option is a joke—you just get a giant, unorganized dump of images and markdown files that are practically useless. It would be one thing if Notion restricted me from creating new notes until I paid. Fine. But to lock away all of my existing data—the very data I created while paying them—is predatory and inexcusable. This is not just bad customer service; it’s a hostage situation for your information. Notion’s product itself is good, but their policies make it a complete nonstarter. No tool, no matter how polished, is worth the risk of having your data held hostage by an inflexible company that refuses to work with paying customers. There are plenty of alternatives out there that respect their users far more. When it comes to pure writing, I've tried the Notion AI (which I pay for) and found that I can't really use its results. Instead, I take the Notion doc I'm working with and use ChatGPT to help me analyze it. To be clear, I don't write any final copy with either AI, but do use them for analysis help. I also tried Notion AI to build tables from a large document, and it failed that, too. I also think Notion has the best branding out there, but unfortunately the product doesn't live up to the branding for me. **What do you dislike about Notion?** I hate how difficult it is to find tools in Notion. Things I can do in one click from the toolbar in Google docs takes me so many more steps in Notion — except for the few tasks I've done enough to figure out their hotkeys. I spend more time googling and asking ChatGPT if Notion can do things and how to then do those things than I spend on my actual content, and that feels like a dealbreaker. I find building and using tables and databases extremely frustrating as well. In theory, it seems like you can make those things more elegant and versatile than they are in Google sheets, but again, I spend more time trying to figure out how to build those things than I do on the things I'm building them for. I've been using Notion daily for work for the last two years, and I still feel lost in there every time I have to make anything from scratch. Perhaps if I was making tables in there everyday, I'd feel more confident, but I'm not, and so while that's the one thing I especially like using in Notion, it's still a frustrating and confusing process everytime I go to make a new table or database in Notion and there's only been one instance where I've been completely happy with how all the fields turned out. In most cases I have fields or columns that feel like a major compromise. I also don't like how limited it is on font sizes, styles and highlight colors. I know that makes documents look cleaner in the end, but I find it more difficult to flag things and mark things because of that. And even something as simple as choosing a text style feels confusing since the headline options are separate from the highlight options. I often feel like I'm fighting with Notion even when writing up a simple, straightforward document. If I didn't have to use Notion for work, I wouldn't use it. It feels like it's style over substance, and I much prefer just using something simpler like Google Docs and Sheets, even if they aren't as fashionable. And fwiw, I'm a video editor and producer. I can't code and sometimes can't figure out how to reset my wifi, but I use multiple editing platforms and generally find that I pick up software faster than most. It is a worse option of pretty much every software it tries to recreate. But worst of all is the sales experience. 1. They completely lack any flexibility on pricing. They have one tier of user and everyone with your domain is on the same tier. Eg. no read only users at a lower price for example. Only about 20% of our team uses it regularly but we have to pay for the whole team. 2. They didn't respond for weeks at a time and then act as if nothing happened. 3. They had no flexibility on payment terms - eg. no quarterly billing. 4. The pricing on G2 doesn't match the actual price you will pay. 10/10 - go a different route. There is no easy way to get off notion once you have an account unless you are willing to lose everything. **What problems is Notion solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is a decent place to store company knowledge vs. Google Drives. I provided a credit card to use sharing features. They originally charged me $96 for team sharing, which I thought was fair. Six months later, I was charged $431.60 with NO notification, NO receipt, NO communication of any type. I only found the charge when reviewing my statements. When I requested a refund, this is the response I was given. Unfortunately, we're unable to offer refunds after 1 month from your sign-up date for the Yearly plan and after 3 days for the Monthly plan, as explained on our Plans and pricing page here. As far as functionality, it's okay if you're willing to invest a LOT of time learning how to use it.
