Note-taking with Notability **Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Mr. C. | Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** July 11, 2025 **What do you like best about Notability?** Notability if multi-functional and allows for many options in how you handle your note taking and what you do with them after-the-fact. It integrates easily into my LMS and is very easy to use for just about any type of scribbling and note taking. I use it on a daily basis in my teaching because it has so many options. **What do you dislike about Notability?** The formatting within notability is not the best. There are relatively few options for how to organize the notes, and it takes some personal creativity to make your notes look interesting and to distinguish between sections of your notes. **What problems is Notability solving and how is that benefiting you?** Notability helps me to deliver notes to my classes in a few different ways. I do my notes "live" in my classes and write on them constantly. I can have an outline set already and then write or type or highlight them as I go through them as needed. I can also directly email them to students who miss class, if they need them. That is an amazing feature. ### 2. I like how the folders and documents are organised. I also love all the features and the fact that you can record audio notes. **What do you dislike about Notability?** I dislike the subscription payment mode. At the beginnings you could buy the App with a one time payment and it was perfect, but now everything is a suscription. In this way it doesn't matter how many money you have paid, if you miss the payment you lose the right to use the app. **What problems is Notability solving and how is that benefiting you?** Is solving the digital note taking with the iPad and Apple Pencil. It feels like if you were doing handwriting. It is very useful for students and for professionals meetings. ### 3. Also, I use this app for keeping songs, notes, and chords for playing my guitar. ### 4. I Recommend This App Weekly **Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Monica R. | Keynote Speaker | Executive Coach | Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2019 **What do you like best about Notability?** This app not only makes it simple and fast to do scale drawings and make notes on them, but you can export your notes and drawings as PDFs in about three seconds! **What do you dislike about Notability?** I have two things I dislike. 1. The "file" structure. They have these things called "Subjects" and "Dividers" and I can't keep them straight. It's non-intuitive. 2. The search function will ONLY find an actual NOTE as opposed to finding the note's "container" (the subject or divider that contains it) This needs to be improved. **Recommendations to others considering Notability:** Be sure to set up your "subjects" and "dividers" in a way that makes it easy for you to find each note, as the search feature isn't really as robust as it should or could be. I bought the app way back when it was only $2.00 (probably five years ago?) and now it's $9.99. I marked it as "expensive" because as apps go, ten bucks is pretty expensive, BUT it's worth every penny. So relatively speaking, it's NOT expensive. One other thing is that it's very stable. I have it installed on my iPad TWO (yeah yeah, I know) but it never freezes, doesn't get buggy, updates itself when necessary and it's just great. Also, you can set it (optionally) to automatically back up your notes to Dropbox, Google Drive and more. **What problems is Notability solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am able to take client notes in my own handwriting and export them directly to Evernote, Dropbox, or email without having to take the extra step of transcribing them into text first. This is a huge time saver. Secondly, I'm able to create scale drawings right on client site and export them directly to the client (or anywhere else) very quickly. This is also a time and effort saver. ### 5. It makes note taking fun, educational, and has everything packaged into one app. **What do you dislike about Notability?** The things that Notability is doing aren’t new. There are many apps that offer some of the services for free. This would require the user to download more than one app and then there’s a possibility that you wouldn’t be able to transfer notes. I worry that after I am finished with my education the money spent on Notability will be wasted as I may no longer use the program. **Recommendations to others considering Notability:** I began using Notability toward the end of my academic journey. I wish I had known about the product when I began in order to get more use. If you don’t have much time left in school and are unsure if you will use the program post grad- it may be better to utilize a free app. **What problems is Notability solving and how is that benefiting you?** As stated prior, many apps would Need to be utilized to get the same affect as Notability.All the features increase my motivation to study and revisit my notes. ### 6. It seems that if I go more than a few days without using the app all of my content needs to be redownloaded from the cloud. **Recommendations to others considering Notability:** Great for personal use. You are able to edit things to your liking, add voice overs or record, and write in your own notes in order for things to best make sense to you. It has really given our team the ability to customize things enough so that it makes it more valuable to them. **What do you dislike about Notability?** At this time I just wish that it was easier to share across platforms. **What problems is Notability solving and how is that benefiting you?** Making it easier for people to access meeting notes and add it what they deem necessary and valuable to them.
