Network Detective Pro is a great tool for getting an inventory of a network and it's PCs. It's best used as a sales and discovery tool early in the process to understand what a client has, and what issues. Great product that is easy to use with a small learning curve. Can have entry level techs run the data gathering with just basic instructions and feed everyting into the app so that a higher level tech can review, generate reports and then have converstaions with the customers. This thing and everything that goes with it is insanely expensive! It was always higher priced but still semi-justifiable most of the time, but then Kaseya purchased them and jacked up the prices to a redicilous level for what it is. There are many open source products out there, in fact the whole Network Detective Pro product line can be put together from open source products; however it requires a signifigant amount of time and knowledge to be able to do so, so unfortunatly many small to midsized MSP's are stuck with this since they are the only game in town right now. Every time you use the tool you will feel dirty when you know how much you are paying to have some people combine together a bunch of already free programs under a proprietary wrapper.
