When I work with different operating systems is difficult to switch work because NetBeans creates the configuration file according to the OS and is time-consuming to change this in different systems. The larger projects can consume a lot of memory and sometimes crash when I used the IDE for long periods of time, but to be fair long periods mean several weeks. Recommendations to others considering NetBeans: it's very good if you are a developer because it has a code optimizer and I love the debugger, it’s very useful if you want to find where your code can fail, it is easily extensible with the huge variety of plugins, and the integration with GitHub is easy and painless. It is very helpful in the development flow and after you get used to it, programming on it is easy. It can be integrated with multiple tools for testing and development, solves the major problem of coding in Java with test-oriented design in mind, which makes NetBeans very efficient in code development and Java web development. It's very efficient in writing java code and helps in building a big project on java. It has a lot of inbuilt shortcuts to declare class, variable and functions. It helps to write tests and execute even a single test file, which is very efficient. Its integration with other tools like selenium, git, etc added a plus factor to this IDE. If you are using Eclipse right now, you should really consider NetBeans 8 as an better IDE on daily basis, things just works as expected. If bought IntelliJ IDEA then you should try NetBeans to get the idea of what a IDE should provide atop of it's core engine and even to propose new feature requests to the NetBeans team.
