PROS: * Intuitive interface which responds well to simply clicking, typing, and dragging, which makes it easy to collaborate with those new to the software. * Powerful moderation/facilitation features makes it more robust than the awkward whiteboard tools in video conferencing platforms. In fact, I use Mural primarily with Zoom/Webex/MS Teams because it's so vastly superior to their collaboration tools. * A handy set of visualizations and templates so that starting with a blank canvas is merely an option and not a requirement. * Export to Github or .CSV files (Excel) is a remarkably power feature which makes Mural a solid choice for larger teams and organizations (even Enterprises) * The rate of new features and improvements from Mural continues at an impressive roll-out rate, improving and simplifying the software in valuable ways. **What do you dislike about Mural?** No software is ever perfect. Mural has some areas which could use improvement, but I must say that it feels almost nit-picky to point these out since they're not deal-breakers of functionality. CONS: * The sharing options are robust, but that's a double-edged sword since the functionality for those with/without Mural accounts can sometimes be confusing on how to share the Mural. * Because Mural allows for 'layering' (similar to PowerPoint: 'bring forward' 'send to back'), the ability to create layers can be powerful but visually difficult to manipulate. Complex layers can benefit from 'grouping' but the mouse/trackpad controls even fully zoomed in can be tricky at best. Mural needs a layer view mode to make it easier to manage layers. * More attention needs to be paid to the "zoom" feature. If you think of Mural in the most simple of terms as a virtual whiteboard, then zooming should be like walking towards a sticky note on a whiteboard or stepping back to see the whole board. This is possible with the zoom feature, but is not intuitive for those new to Mural and should be made more clear through automated helpers. **What problems is Mural solving and how is that benefiting you?** PROBLEMS SOLVED: * When Work From Home became a mandatory way of working for previously co-located teams, Mural with video conferencing became THE way teams came together to share, reflect, and learn. * We consolidated 26 teams' Retrospectives in Mural by creating the Retrospective Radar (now a global Mural template since it was so successful). 26 teams using 26 Mural boards weekly = 104 Mural boards per month; but because we could export to .CSV per Mural, we have been able to aggregate the feedback into Excel and find trends, patterns, and shared insights at a Macro level for the organization. I also recommend using the "summon all" function to help the less tech-savvy users follow along. **What problems is Mural solving and how is that benefiting you?** With the Covid-19 pandemic, the Mural tool has made brainstorming virtually with the team not only possible, but a much more efficient and effective way to get everyone's ideas and opinions on those ideas. The tool is very collaborative, and it also saves on printing costs and materials that we would have used in an in-person brainstorming session. Accidently dragging things is a common risk, but just remember to lock content and that is stopped. **Recommendations to others considering Mural:** Use Lock to stop new users from accidently moving items. **What problems is Mural solving and how is that benefiting you?** it is a whiteboard, a digital whiteboard, so does all the functionality that a real whiteboard does.
