Muckrack makes it easy to see where and what the media writes for/about, available contact information and preferences, common topics and latest pieces all on their profile. This makes it easy to cross check who you're connecting with, and where your client may end up being featured. The search terms can make your search very specific, which is great for niche clients and topics. I use Muckrack every day for work, and it is a ways above any competitors I've seen thus far. **What do you dislike about Muck Rack?** Muckrack either doesn't have an updated list of contacts on their system, or there just aren't very many journalists signed up. It seems like each list can pull tens or even hundreds of contacts that don't necessarily fit well within the search terms. Their "alerts" system is great, but not perfect. I often will search for names and products myself in their system to find media hits instead of them going to my inbox in one alert like its supposed to. And for alerts, it will pull ANYTHING that mentions the word/phrase because you can't make the terms super specific to categories, which can be frustrating when you get 100s of irrelevant results for one client. Their system isn't exactly the most user friendly, and often has issues or runs very slow. Their customer support team is very responsive, however. **What problems is Muck Rack solving and how is that benefiting you?** Muckrack provides an alert feature that sends alerts to your registered email whenever the search term is used. This is great for checking in on client features. It is an easy-to-learn platform, and it was far easier to implement into our daily workflow than Cision. It also works much more efficiently for our media reporting, cutting down time. Customer support is generally responsive, whether it's adding a new teammate or adding a new reporter contact to the database. **What do you dislike about Muck Rack?** Muck Rack is not the most feature-rich media monitoring software out there. It is not as robust as Cision, for example, but it does make up for it in the ease of use. **What problems is Muck Rack solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our agency chiefly uses Muck Rack for media monitoring and media targeting. Its search features are great for building media lists, and its dashboard and reporting tools are great options for building media reports. I had dabbled in press release distribution, though I don't use it very often and generally prefer to rely on email. However, the ability to instantly send individual emails to a wide media list, with touches of personalization as needed, is a great tool. It takes time, but it's so worth it! **What do you dislike about Muck Rack?** The one thing MuckRack doesn't have that would be extremely helpful is a way to keep track of where things are in a media inquiry lifecycle. For instance, I like to know how many inquiries we have had, be able to download the list, be able to tag them for the expert that was interviewed and the topic, know at a glance if the inquiry is still open (as in, I'm working on setting up an interview) or if the interview took place and I'm now waiting for the story to be published. There is no way to do that in MuckRack, unfortunately. And the reason its so good its because it does what they tell you it will do (where others do not) AND its intuitive, meaning any of your team can jump in and pretty much figure it out without training. On top of that, MuckRack's training is better than the rest..by far! And for a public relations individual trying to do their craft well requires the ability to read coverage from the reporters you're pitching as it happens, be up to date on what they are sharing on their own channels, and then when it makes sense to reach out, ENSURE THE CONTACT INFORMATION for that journalist is correct. These are where other platforms fall short. I would never recommend a platform other than MuckRack! I also love that its one price. They don't try to sell you all these crazy addins like Meltwater does. **What do you dislike about Muck Rack?** The only thing I don't like is that when you use MuckRack to pitch journalists, the email address your email comes from is a weird one — to me, that could be a red flag to a journalist seeing "noreply@msgsend.com". However, when a jouranlist replies, it does go correctly to your email. This is not a feature everyone uses or even needs. I like it because it tracks all pitches like a CRM it can be helpful, especially determining open and click rates. If a contact is outdated, you can simply chat them and they'll conduct research for you to ensure the contact is accurate. The customizable media list is also a game changer. For example, if I am having an event in Washington DC and need to target reporters who cover medical news in the area, I can select the precise filters to target those folks. Muck Rack saves SO much time in my day. The transparent pricing is also awesome- I appreciate that it's one flat fee with everything included per user. **What do you dislike about Muck Rack?** I'd say Muck Rack is a bit expensive, but given its features I'd say it is worth it. I do wish they had special pricing for nonprofits, however. The social media monitoring could also be better. Other softwares offer more robust insights and therefore you're forced to go to another platform that offers better insights. **What problems is Muck Rack solving and how is that benefiting you?** Muck Rack is highly beneficial if you are entering a new industry or have a new client that is in an industry you have not represented before. It allows you to identify the right journalists who cover relevant beats in a fraction of the time than other media monitoring sites. It also allows me to keep up with media changes and informs me if a journalist has moved to another publication. The only thing you'll regret is not doing it sooner. **What do you dislike about Muck Rack?** I love how Muck Rack automates the logging of email communications that happen with journalists outside the platform, but I wish there was a way to categorize the relevant messages as pitches vs. email logs, so that they would show in the in-platform pitching interface. I also wish the pitching interface offered more text formatting options. I particularly miss being able to indent text, as I do when pitching by email to make my pitches easier to skim.
