I also wish there was more consistency in journalists and a better way for the system to automatically update when journalists change jobs, get new emails, etc. Not major complaints, but could be beneficial. I find Muck Rack very affordable for pretty comprehensive coverage. The alerts are great because I don't have to go looking for stories. I also appreciate the media lists and pitching feature as it automates the process of sending emails to a lot of people while personalizing them to feel like they were sent to individuals. I was really excited about the possibility of monitoring broadcast channels, so I went out on a limb and spent the extra money, only to learn that some of the biggest stations in my state that we work with the most aren't covered. I use Muck Rack for pitching media and appreciate how it helps in building media lists. I like that I can see which publications are more visible within LLMs. I find the coverage reporting useful as it allows me to add in campaigns with different metrics and share details with our CMO about what kind of media attention we're getting. The generative pulse feature is valuable as it helps me see where my brand is showing up. Coverage reporting for visibility of publications is also nice as it provides a measurable way to share with leadership that we're more or less AI visible. It really helps us identify our successful public relations efforts and share that information with clients. I like the filters on the search bar a lot. Specifically, filtering by location is useful since many topics our clients promote are national issues, but we often only need state coverage. The filters make this much easier. Our biggest recurring issue is not being able to download our saved clips. Something else that doesn't work well is the keywords tracking doesn't have enough filters. I would prefer to be able to list words to avoid because for some clients we don't track everything, just the specific program we support. Additionally, the dashboard setup is soooo tedious; there should be a feature to feed a coverage report into all widgets on this dashboard instead of adding them one at a time. I used to use two different tools—Muck Rack for media research and another one called Propel for media lists—but now it's all integrated, which is great. Sometimes it's really annoying when I look for a reporter, even a very prominent one, and their name doesn't come up in the search, even though I'm 100% positive the spelling is right. This has happened to my colleagues too. We end up having to go to Google, and then their Muck Rack profile shows up. Something is definitely wrong with the search function. Also, the difference between pitch lists and media lists doesn't really make sense. It feels like an arbitrary designation that makes you do two steps of work instead of one. Reporting is a key focus area for us, especially when it comes to more visual dashboards and making insights easier to share with clients. In the meantime, many teams pair UVM with additional signals like PR Hit Score, engagement data from our Google Analytics integration and AI visibility insights from Generative Pulse to tell a more complete story of PR impact.
