Performance has improved with each new version, and new features have been added along the way. It’s quite fast, and I’ve also had a good experience with the support. **What do you dislike about MSC Nastran?** You really need a good preprocessor for this. Working in bulk isn’t as easy to read as it is, for example, in Abaqus. It’s also quite expensive, and the licensing system is complicated. **What problems is MSC Nastran solving and how is that benefiting you?** You can use it to solve almost any engineering problem, from simple static analysis to more complex frequency-response tasks, and fatigue and whatever engineering problem you want to solve ### 2. reliable FEA package for variety of applications **Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Olivia S. | CEO and Co-Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2021 **What do you like best about MSC Nastran?** Nastran is the industry-standard software (in aerospace at least). It may not feel very 21st century (it was originally developed for the moon missions in the 1960s), but it does what you expect it to do (mostly). It's commercial software, so you will have to pay for the pleasure. Be aware that Nastran-95 has been released as open-source software without support and is available for download here: https://github.com/nasa/NASTRAN-95 **What do you dislike about MSC Nastran?** The manuals are all pdf based - you need to know where to look. The programmer interface through 'DMAPS' is painful. **What problems is MSC Nastran solving and how is that benefiting you?** This is engineering simulation software. We use it for anything from static stress analysis to vibration, thermal, aeroelastic analyses, and even design optimization. ### 3.
