Morningstar's large database of mutual fund, ETF and equity data. Holdings-based and performance data, well understood methodology for classifying funds across growth/value, and various other categories. Presentation studio is also a great tool for creating investment collateral such as factsheets and nice looking reports. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The software is extremely glitchy and difficult to use. It frequently closes when you're in the middle of a workflow - for no reason. Frequently stalls out when the system gets overloaded, feels like there is some bad programming at the root of the program that no one has bothered to fix because it's easier to collect licensing fees and ignore it. Updates sometimes erase user specific settings causing a lot of hours to be spent re-applying settings after the update. Call center help team is generally not very knowledgeable on the product and has to experiment alongside you to attempt to find a solution. I usually know more about the program than the people I speak to on the 800 number.
For the price of this software, it should not break down and glitch out so often. We use it to create detailed reports that we spend hours formatting and many times have to reformat or start over due to system errors. This is unacceptable for software that is supposed to be industry-leading and carry the Morningstar brand. You all should spend some serious resources streamlining the underlying code in the software, or figuring out why it is so glitchy and slow, otherwise firms will eventually use an alternative provider. its A very slow system, due to all the capabilities it has. That’s the only downside Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Clean interface and easy to navigate
I also loved the ability to create investment portfolios and backtesting their performance. At the time of my using, backtesting was only available in Morningstar Direct. This gives you more confidence in your portfolio and allows you to test different allocations for your portfolio. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Limited capabilities for Fixed income and it was quite Expensive. I think we used to pay close to $20k per year for this.
I also did not enjoy the fact that its not a cloud based software and I needed to carry my laptop everywhere. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
