We were able to transition our invoicing process from paper-based to fully digital within the software. Our onboarding contact was responsive and open to feedback. The integration with QBO, while not seamless, is streamlined. **What do you dislike about Monograph?** There are challenges in the way Monograph is set-up for subconsultants, specifically regarding assignment of consultant billings to project phases and tracking consultant invoice amounts that differ from fees charged to the client. **What problems is Monograph solving and how is that benefiting you?** Monograph allows us to plan, track, and adjust staff assignments to align with project fees and deliverables quickly and intuitively. It is replacing the use of multiple data tracking formats as the information is consolidated and integrated within Monograph. ### 2. User-Friendly Time Tracking and Forecasting, but Reporting and Rate Changes Feel Limited **Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** March 05, 2026 **What do you like best about Monograph?** Its pretty user friendly - its easy to create new projects, manage invoices/billing, assign employees to tasks/projects. It's really great at tracking both past and future hours. The staffing feature showing how busy everyone will be for the next weeks/months is really helpful for assigning future work. When we switched timekeeping software it was pretty smooth, our employees didn't have difficulty adjusting to the new software. Tracking expenses is really easy too. There is lots to love about Monograph. **What do you dislike about Monograph?** It's limited in some features. It doesn't allow you to export any of the data as PDF unless its an invoice. We had to get a custom payroll report to track our billable vs overhead hours (which was great they were able to do that for us) but again limited feature usage. A big annoyance is Monograph doesn't let you back date rate change. Often billable rates are scheduled to change on a specific day but they are negotiated after that day has passed. Monograph doesn't have a feature to let you go and back date all those hours to the new rate, you have to do it manually and it's soooo frustrating. It makes invoicing such a pain. We've also been with them for less than a year and they already added a new feature with a paywall. **What problems is Monograph solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's solving our ability to track our employees future time forecast - how busy will someone's workload be in 2 weeks vs 2 months? This helps us figure out how much more work we need to be acquiring or if we need to hire new employees to help manage our workload. Monograph has great visuals to help us track this data. It helps us keep track if a project is profitable/overbudget. It makes it easy to flag early when a project is trending over budget and if we need to renegotiate the fee or talk about added work that was outside the original scope of the project. ### 3. It makes our business more transparent to everyone. **What do you dislike about Monograph?** For me, as the accountant, I have trouble getting some things into quickbooks online. Sometimes I can't figure out why easily and don't feel that i have anyone that I pick up the phone and call. Implementation was also a struggle. We probably went a little slower than most and Monographs timeline is their timeline and it didn't feel like there was any wiggle room. **What problems is Monograph solving and how is that benefiting you?** It helps our project managers see what jobs are making money and which are struggling. ### 4. It gives clarity on how many hours are being spent on a project, helping us recognize where we need to charge more or be more efficient. I also appreciate the invoicing and financial forecasting features, which give us clarity on when to bill and what to bill. **What do you dislike about Monograph?** I don't feel Monograph is a good tool for viewing work that needs to be done. There's no option for charts that my boss can write notes on, and there's a need for printouts to be incorporated for older generations. For invoicing, there should be a full project overview page that can be exported to Excel showing the status of all projects. I sometimes wish there were separate tabs for active projects and proposed projects. Tracking outsourced work lacks too - we're paying for an additional Monograph account, and people have to log in to track that time, which is not ideal. I find it much easier to visualize things using Microsoft Tasks than in Monograph. It took a long time to get the hang of Monograph, and we're still modifying things. **What problems is Monograph solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Monograph for tracking time, budgets, forecasting, and team staffing. It helps me see who's overstaffed and shows how hours are spent on projects, indicating where to improve efficiency and adjust charges. ### 5. I utilize invoicing a great deal. One of the issues I am having comes from attaching expenses to a phase. In our proposals we have separate expense line items per specialty to ensure we stay in budget for each of them. I can create expense phases for our subs but when our firm enters expenses it gets lumped together in a total amount. It would be really helpful if the expenses could be attached to their own phase per specialty **What problems is Monograph solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is helping our project managers see how many hours are being spent on a project so we can fine tune our future proposals to match everyone's efforts. ### 6. The initial setup was very easy, and I find the chat help to be very helpful, as well as the webinar trainings. **What do you dislike about Monograph?** I don't like when it automatically filters the date to be the last one you used when searching a specific time frame.
