A lot of great tools for modeling, both direct modeling and procedural modeling. Every tool can be combined with others in a tool pipe, in this way you can create your own custom tools and presets. The main features are the variety of selections tools, great hotkeys customization, a quick definition of action centers, falloff and placement of the workplane. Modo hand's down is one of the best modeling packages I've used in my years of 3D modeling/creation. When it comes to organic/hard-surface modeling/retopology, it has some of the best tools available of any AIO 3D software. One of the better perks I enjoy about Modo is how many of the most common tools are naturally assigned to hotkeys that just make sense. This helps take a lot of the "thinking" out of what you're doing and just allows you to work. The assigned keys for navigation make it tablet-friendly as well. Modo is also highly customizable, really allowing you to hone it in to your personal way of working. I've never been a huge fan of setting up UVs, but Modo has made this process painless to the point of therapeutic. And last but definitely not least, Modo has one of the best native renderers I've worked with as well, easily holding its own with the likes of rendering engines such as Arnold or Vray. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Modo? After the modeling/UVing phase, Modo somewhat falls apart for me just a little bit. Most 3D software these days have a node-based approach to texturing that makes the process easier. Modo can be a little clunky when it comes to setting up textures, and as a result, there are other packages I'd still prefer to work in after the modeling phase. Modo's animation toolsets has been growing over the years, but compared to an industry-standard software like Maya, Modo's animation toolsets still don't really hold a candle to the likes of Maya, unfortunately. The modeling tools are well thought out and implemented. The tool system is based on a a user-customizeable platform that allows for a lot of artist-end modification without a lot of work. The rendering system is also very good. What do you dislike about Modo? Working with very large scenes can often be a bit difficult and I would like to see some future development in that area. Also, the dynamics and simulation options (especially fluids and liquid simulation) could be improved upon in order to really round out the package as a full featured all-in-one toolset. The flexible and powerful rendering engine makes it excellent for previsualization, ideation and photo-real rendering. I have used modo for a variety of projects including producta and architectural visualization, visual effects, and game design and for all all of the use ncases in modeling, texture and material design, lighting, and rendering it has been great.
