Mode is now 'where we work' **Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Automotive | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2019 **What do you like best about Mode?** Here are the things we like best about Mode: 1) Mode's Slack Integration - all of our internal company reporting now flows through Slack 2) Mode's White-Label embed - all of our external reporting (thousands of users) is served through white label embed 3) The CSS/Javascript capabilities. We can dial the Mode reports in to have the exact look our designers want. Plus, if there is a capability Mode cannot do, it's just a matter of getting a Javascript engineer to do a little coding for us or find the right plug-in. To date, everything we've wanted to do from a visualization standpoint has been possible. 4) Their support is great. 5) This was a surprise feature... but the ability to see a log of every report ever run. I have users call to say "my numbers look strange" - and I can go into the Details section, find exactly their run and have a conversation about exactly what they see. That's a feature that wasn't on our radar during our bake-offs but has become something that's invaluable. **What do you dislike about Mode?** A few weeks ago I would have said their data grids (tables) felt very 2005... but they just upgraded them and are much better today. I'd also say the web interface used to be super limiting... trying to load more than 8,000 rows at a time would involve a lot of finger-crossing... but they just fixed that too. The only thing left is to be able to have custom triggers. If {value} > 0 then {don't send the report}... because everything is OK. **What problems is Mode solving and how is that benefiting you?** We're distributing hundreds of easy-to-interpret analytics via Slack to our internal account management teams - and they're using them daily! It's amazing to see an entire company start becoming analytic. We're also distributing highly tuned analytics to thousands of end users. ### 2. A product that solves our problems UI could be improved **Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Leisure, Travel & Tourism | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2019 **What do you like best about Mode?** - it is in the cloud so I do not have to download CSVs to do my analyses - it is directly plugged into the different databases I use and I can access them from one interface - it allows to create dynamic reports that can be shared with other members of the team or send on a daily basis to you email - you can run R and Python notebook within Mode without the need to store your database credentials on your machine - the customer service team does a great job at answering questions **What do you dislike about Mode?** Some small UX problems can be annoying on a day to day basis : - you can not have to y values for an x : the y values have to be aggregated. That defeats the point of making a scatter plot - when you have dates as the x-axis the granularity defaults to Year even if your dates are days - NULL values and empty strings are converted to some strange values in the plots. Empty dates are set to 1970-01-01, ... - the customer service team is based in California and I am in London which mean that when they start their day I end mine and have to wait till the day after to get a reply **What problems is Mode solving and how is that benefiting you?** - we need a tool that allows the power users to do some quick data exploration and visualization - we need to securely access our data and be able to run Notebooks in the cloud - we need the ability to share and send polished report to the team ### 3. Now the recent improvements of the chart builder made it really snappier to use so now the slowest part is sometimes waiting for larger datasets to be available in the notebook side of the world. Also nitpicking here but it would be great if it would be easier to use notebooks in conjunctio with the chartbuilder and build a cohesive unified set of charts. **Recommendations to others considering Mode:** The almost native support to notebooks makes it extremely convenient to use for people with different backgrounds. It's a huge perk not to rely on a proprietary config language. **What problems is Mode solving and how is that benefiting you?** We adopted mode as the first commercial BI tool. It works great and allows me to do more complex business and analysis on both sql and notebooks side. We fund it extremely easy to embed mode dashboards to salesforce for our sales reps to gain deep insights to our users. ### 4. I write a lot of SQL and there's almost no faster way to go from a query result to a visualization and dashboard. Data exploration is a breeze with Mode. **What do you dislike about Mode?** One of the biggest downsides in my opinion is lack of calculated fields, especially with big numbers, etc. It makes a query result less re-usable for multiple use cases. **Recommendations to others considering Mode:** Consider whether the person using Mode knows SQL or not. It has a very nice visualization and charts. You can also save reports for a later review or just repopulate them if you need them again. This eases the job a lot for reporting analysts as they need to build reports only once and share them with the report requesters. It can also be integrated with other apps such as Slack which I've never used. **What do you dislike about Mode?** There's a need to log in often as it doesn't remember you. It also needs quite a lot of time to populate some of the reports, especially if they contain visuals and charts. You can't generate reports without having some training on how to build them so it requires you to have advanced reporting skills unless there's appointed person in your company to do that. **What problems is Mode solving and how is that benefiting you?** it helps me with my day to day work. ### 6. One of the best perks it offers is Collaboration, you can easily share and collaborate on the same project. Having the ability to manipulate data in a variety of ways makes mode extremely dynamic for data analysis. **What do you dislike about Mode?** I might not be fully educated on the platform, but I have not been able to load some of the free R-programming packages like dplyr, ggplot2, etc. This has been good as I have learned more SQL, but making these pillars of R-programming more easily accessible would be great. **What problems is Mode solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use mode for the majority of our database queries and for creating automated reports for the various departments at my company. Mode listened and restored this functionality promptly.
