It's easy to quickly move from wide open exploration to discovering insights to presenting them. The site moves (relatively) fast and encourages rapid-fire question and answer type analysis, instead of expecting humans to plan everything before writing a query. When you're ready for presentation, the quick visualization options accomplish ~99% of what you typically need without bloated options. For everything else, you can use R or Python notebooks. Support is a true differentiator. I have never had better support in any industry. Problems are solved with empathy, quickly. Also, the Mode product team has worked closely with our data team, from the time when Trello was only 100 people. **What do you dislike about Mode?** Notebooks seem to need to be refreshed pretty often, and maybe it's just me, but they seem a bit slow (on the order of an extra second or two for operations). My company has had longstanding problems with the database schema displaying correctly and therefore we don't have table previews or code completion, which is a big deal. **What problems is Mode solving and how is that benefiting you?** Mode lets us spend time thinking about questions and answers, instead of wrestling with software. It's fast and intuitive to use, and it's my favorite BI software for daily use. ### 15. It is also flexible in giving us a way to view our data how we want, It is quite easy to use as well. **What do you dislike about Mode?** I did not like that it does not give me a real-time refresh ability for the data we are fetching from our SQL data tables and I have to run my SQL script every time I needed to see the up-to-date data. I also did not like the fact that Mode is not optimized for mobile web view, this makes it use mostly desktop computer limited for me. **What problems is Mode solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are using Mode to monitor ongoing financial transactions written to our SQL data tables in real-time. Mode provides perhaps one of the really nice and standardized ways we are able to view transaction data from our users' activity as a fintech. The performance could be faster. - Also, the Starred data on the main Dashboard should be ordered by the First one. I can not sort by "interest" that would be getting the Starred reports at the top. I also wish the Pivot Table feature wasn't so limited with rows and that scatter plots didn't force aggregations and allowed you to plot every point individually. Finally, I would really like to have a permanent "scrap" report where I could just fiddle around with temporary queries and quick items I need to pull for someone - not everything needs to have a robust dashboard. The ability to write python scripts from data queried using SQL is excellent. I can do more in depth analyses using packages like pandas or numpy and have tables or graphs in the report builder. 2. I really enjoy the interface of the report builder in Mode. It makes storytelling w/ data easy and visually appealing to my audience. 3. The free version (which I'm currently using) is an excellent starting point for data needs. While some key features are missing, I could definitely see myself upgrading to the paid version once the company I am working for grows. **What do you dislike about Mode?** 1. Since Mode is a SQL first platform, non-technical users will have a hard time using the platform. 2. The Python Notebooks are very accessible and offer three versions of Python, and have the basic modules, while also allow us to install any external module. The SQL editor also made it very intuitive to learn SQL much more proficiently than I had known it before. **What do you dislike about Mode?** When I reviewed Mode last year, I wrote that speed of notebook updating and execution was a big downside. Since then though, all of that has gotten MUCH faster. So much so that I can't really think of any big complaints this time around. One improvement that would be nice would be the ability to set custom cadences for scheduled dashboard reports. We have a few use cases where we'd love to be able to report to slack every 4 or 6 hours for example, but the closest available option now is to do so on an hourly basis. **Recommendations to others considering Mode:** Even small-scale, specific use-case notebooks can be helpful to implement in Mode - you don't need a gorgeous dashboard to enable people at your company to gather data who might otherwise not know how to format a query themselves. **What problems is Mode solving and how is that benefiting you?** The biggest use-case for us has been calculating, analyzing, and communicating conglomerative metrics that draw upon data from varied areas of the company. Mode's SQL interface and ease of access once a dashboard has been built has really enabled this sort of thing. ### 36. While I spend the majority of my time writing SQL, being able to use any one of popular Python libraries is a feature that I wish I had in other BI tools I've used in the past.
