I came for the mind mapping and stayed for the Presenter. You build a mind map, then create a sequence of slides by selecting topics and branches in the order you want to present them, and Mindomo turns it into an interactive presentation. During the presentation, the audience sees the map zoom and animate between focus points it's much more memorable than static PowerPoint slides. You can also export slides as images, PDFs (multiple page sizes including A4, A3, A2, Letter, Ledger, Widescreen, with transparent background option), or PowerPoint files for offline presenting. As an instructional designer, I love that the Edu Basic and Classroom/School plans give students premium access automatically when an admin invites them. The LMS integrations are extensive — Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, Brightspace, itslearning, Schoology, plus direct Google Classroom support. Setting up an LTI key was straightforward and our LMS admin had it running in under an hour. After two years of daily use, I appreciate how stable the tool is. Auto-save has never failed me, the playback history has saved my work multiple times when I needed to revert, and real-time collaboration with my co-founder has been smooth even on transatlantic calls. The keyboard shortcuts are well thought out — TAB for subtopic, ENTER for sibling topic, Ctrl + arrows for indent/outdent. Once you internalize them, building a complex map takes minutes. The desktop version has great features. You have unlimited diagrams, unlimited topics, and can work completely offline or use all sorts of themes, layouts, dark mode, spell checker, cloud-sync whenever you like - PLUS, it has a Pack Map feature, which allows compressing a diagram along with all associated attachments into one .pmom file for easy sharing with other desktop users - a good solution for working with others in a covert networked environment. I incorporate running group debates and group review sessions into my teaching scheme using Mindomo. They can all participate in the same diagram, but get to do so using their own colors, so that I can witness all of their contributions being made in real-time. Due to the chat sidebar, less-talkative students can contribute to discussions without having to verbally participate. Following class, the display of playback history provides a means for me to illustrate the evolution of student thought, which, again, is a point of learning. Different layout formats (e.g., org charts for cause/effect relationships versus concept maps for showing the relationships between things) fit perfectly for the type of lesson being delivered. I can create brainstorm mapping from scratch, expand on existing brainstorm maps through AI-generated suggestions, and translate completed brainstorm maps into multiple languages. This translates well for multilingual teams, and the cost of using these features is fair compared to other tools. The AI can create new brainstorming maps that have generic branches, and therefore, they will require substantial editing to complete. These new branches are a great start, but ultimately, they are only the beginning. The "free account's AI features" will expire and are not unlimited, which was not clear to me when evaluating the tool. The successful deployment of this product throughout our organization relies on the full collaborative integration of Mindomo diagrams into MS Teams channels and chats, including the ability to concurrently edit diagrams directly from MS Teams. The auto-generated adaptive previews from link unfurling, along with the ability to add an existing diagram into any conversation within seconds using the MS Teams search message extension, were also important contributing factors to our decision. Additionally, having a role-based permission model and the ability to do an org-wide deployment using the MS Teams app setup policy allowed our IT team to execute a clean rollout of this product to several hundred users at one time. Thus far, we have seen no significant impact on our deployment; however, it is worth noting that Teams permissions will supersede the diagram’s sharing permissions – once you understand how Teams’ permissions take precedence, this is an effective design decision. There are lots of layouts and themes available to me; I never feel restricted by just one type of diagram. I have complete control over the final appearance of my mind map thanks to the labels, summary node feature, multiple connection types (including a new zigzag format as well as a single angle), and the option to establish a custom size for my topics. There are many possibilities for incorporating notes into my mind map, including: code blocks; equations; images that can be dropped directly onto my mind map; quotes; etc (this is not typical of mind mapping software). Most "mind mapping" tools handle the rigid radial layout fine but fall apart when you need a flexible concept map with labeled relationships between any two nodes. Mindomo handles concept maps as a first-class diagram type. You can drag relationship lines between unconnected topics, label them, customize color/shape/weight/pattern/endings, and the layout stays clean regardless of how you arrange topics. Switching a concept map to a mind map layout (and back) preserves all your work. As an academic, this is exactly what I need for visualizing theoretical frameworks. The main reason for selecting this software system was the use of the GANTT chart functionality. All the task types including tasks, subtasks and dependencies and the use of milestone/priority/progress bar features are intuitive to a project manager because they all work as I would expect in a dedicated project management tool, and I can then convert my Gantt Chart into a mind map or outline with one click and assign tasks to my team members, and receive email notifications of when those assigned tasks have been completed and/or overdue, and collaborate in real-time with team members on the Gantt chart. The facility to use Gantt charts is only available in the Business subscription level, which makes it seem like a high cost if you want to only use the Gantt chart function, and when you update a task that has multiple dependencies on the Gantt chart the recalculation for that task does work correctly but it also takes about 1 to 2 seconds (which can be annoying on larger projects); the Gantt chart does not work well on mobile devices compared to desktop devices.
