## Microsoft OneNote Reviews
  ### 1. A great idea with a poor excecution

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andres G. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2023

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

The fact that you can sync notes in the cloud.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

Everything else: it's not simple or easy to use. The integration with teams is poor as it's difficult to share notes. The notebook functionality is very unclear. Teams notes are not sync with the OneNote app.

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sync notes in the cloud and with teams.

  ### 2. Microsoft's solution for electronic notes

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 10, 2019

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

OneNote is good at helping you structure your notes. One can create several booklets and standard features, such as bullet points etc., are available to structure your thoughts.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

I have never been a big fan of electronic notes. I think it is more intuitive to take pen and paper and take notes manually. Due to a lack of experience-enhancing features, OneNote has not been able to convince me of the contrary.

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I only use OneNote because it was standard on my work computer. The biggest advantage is that notes are now more easily shareable, whereas before some of my colleagues couldn't even read them due to my bad handwriting.

  ### 3. It's ok but other note taking apps are better.

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 07, 2022

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

I like that you can collaborate with people and that there are folders and tabs for organization.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

I really find the "layout" tools to be difficult to manage. And I feel like organization get chaotic, difficult to find the right things.

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It can be helpful for collaborative notes but I do not use it for my personal notes.

  ### 4. One note

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 19, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

I like that you can create different pages to be able to view your informations i also like that other can add information to what you have created

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

Sometimes the pages don't link or update making it hard to keep track of informajron

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Microsoft note to keep up with training classes. I also use it to keep information i have learned or wish to share to my team

  ### 5. Better than paper and pencil, but not by much

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 15, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

It's a single place for me to keep all my notes, reference them, search, etc. The biggest advantage is that many people can all share the same notebook so that notes aren't just for your but are for the team for everyone to use and reference.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

It's not much better than using my paper book and pencil. Plus it has the disadvantages of needing to be on the computer, logging in, etc. Vs. just opening up my book to assess my note.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft OneNote:**

Just be cautious that you don't try to use this tool to solve all 'note taking'. It is fantastic for team collaboration notes, but may not replace the ol' paper/pencil solution for your personal items.

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Collaboration with regards to notes. I think people also use this to replace their own, personal notes, but I don't like it for that use.

  ### 6. Not Very Necessary

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lauren H. | Guidance Counselor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 09, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

It is an easy to use word processing type of system.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

It feels unnecessarily unstructured. It might work well for creative projects, but needs more structure for a business setting.

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easily move around text and images.

  ### 7. Has a lot of issues for something that is well-known

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Hardware | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 10, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

Pros:
Pros: Wide range of functionality. You can convert to different file types and insert files into it rather easily. It has great cloud support and is overall easy to access.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

Cons:
There is great support for onenote on the web, but at least 90% of the searches I've done to troubleshoot an issue or functionality apply to one type of Onenote and not another... for some reason. I've spent many hours troubleshooting options that don't exist for one type or another. Example:
The ink-to-math is not present in this version. The ink-to-draw is not present in the office 365 version. Why?
There is a view option of fitting what's been drawn to the page width which will also show up if printed to a .pdf. What's bad is that there is no option for displaying where the pages end. I saw a comment from a developer about this saying that it would be too difficult. But I know they could figure out a way to do that. There are so many option. Just have the length of each page increase if a user increases the width to the right. That could cause issues if the user wants the content displayed on certain pages. So, have the page separators actually splice the content shown and add whitespace if page width/length grows ... or shrink/grow content of pages accordingly like a picture. Or, when in "page view mode" like this, warm the user if they are trying to grow pages sizes ... or just have a fixed page size in this mode!
My main issue: Why it is so glitchy with an epen. If I tap the screen it wants me to type - this happens a lot when I'm scrolling and not tapping also. The developers didn't input an option to make the pen the default and disable tap to keyboard.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft OneNote:**

use Microsoft Whiteboard

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I would solve the issues described in my "cons" section. There a lot of benefits of Onenote including its popularity and how connected it is since Microsoft dominate many mainstream products.

  ### 8. Not my favorite

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 25, 2019

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

I like that with OneNote you don’t have to worry about saving anything and it automatically saves it & is accessible from any device.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

It is extremely unorganized. The only thing you can organize is the tabs. Within each tab it’s basically a free blank page, and my OCD can’t handle it haha

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft OneNote:**

If you want things to be really organized, I wouldn’t recommend this particular platform. But if you just want a place to jot down ideas and have a place where it saves all your info then this is it.

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It’s a good place to dump ideas

  ### 9. The journal

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

A staff member suggested using onenote and added me into her notebook for sharing a business trip. The idea worked and we both added plans to the notebook

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

For me I had problems accessing the notebook. Wasn't visible in OneNote application even though I'd used it online. Had to contact microsoft support

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft OneNote:**

I can see why people like it but do some research before investing all your time into it

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I spent two hours on my ipad app adding notes to find the next day my notes hadn't saved

  ### 10. Way too expensive to be bothered with

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Networking | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2019

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

Nice and intuitive UI. Very similar to other Microsoft softwares but definitely way more detailed and in-depth

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

Terrible sync issues, especially with smartphones

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft OneNote:**

Look elsewhere

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It was fine to store my data I guess

  ### 11. Practice

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in International Trade and Development | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 02, 2019

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

All my notes are with me in every device i use.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

This application need some more advertising to make the peoples aware about the real service.

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Honestly,It's useless application.

  ### 12. Good for basic journaling

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David Z. | Mr, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

I love the integration with OneDrive and other Microsoft apps. I love OneNote for the hierarchy of books and pages.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

Sometimes the synchronization is a little slow and alignment of pictures in the text can a little stressful.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft OneNote:**

If you are familiar with Microsoft Products, You will love Microsoft Note. It's not perfect but it works and is there always available for you.

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Works exactly as it's marketed. It's a good place to put your notes in.

  ### 13. Be much more organised with your note taking

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luke H. | Operations Management Adviser, Non-Profit Organization Management, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2018

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

The page -> section -> notebook structure makes it extremely easy to organise your notes. I also really like being able to go back and edit notes later on (e.g. when i have a regular call I can easily see the notes from the last call and then add the new notes to the page).

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

The mobile and mac versions could be improved (e.g. by adding the functionality to filter by check boxes)

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft OneNote:**

It's really helped me to be more organised in my note taking. It has helped both by making me more structured about taking notes and where I store information but also by allowing me to revisit existing notes to add additional information. I really like the fact that it syncs immediately with the free iOS app and also on my other devices (macbook pro and other laptops).

There is a slight redesign for a Windows 10 app which I don't like so much so I continue to use the desktop version out of familiarity (the location of the folder structure has moved and makes it less intuitive in my opinion.

Another great feature is the link to Outlook so I can easily create a note from a meeting invite that automatically imports the title, date and time and participants of the meeting in easily expandable format. This note then links back to the original invite, a great feature!

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

More organised note taking, better continuity of ongoing processes, better to-do-list management

  ### 14. It's kind of like a scrapbook for the office

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kelly M. | Appointee Coach, Non-Profit Organization Management, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 17, 2018

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

You can do and share a LOT of items with a lot of people.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

The tables don't really work well and it becomes messy really quickly once others are added.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft OneNote:**

Make tables more user friendly

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Problems include it being messy and scrapbook like. Benefits are that it's a great place to collaborate.

  ### 15. Mediocre note-taking software

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Investment Banking | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

Seamless integration with other Microsoft products like Outlook

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

Clunky UI compared to newer softwares such as Evernote

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being able to consolidate thoughts for a long-burn workstream and organize them quickly

  ### 16. Some syncing issues

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rebecca B. | Graduate Research Assistant, Research, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2017

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

Ability to take notes across multiple devices. OneNote also allows you to organize your notes into notebooks, and further into sections within the notebook, mirroring a physical notebook. This level of organization is helpful. It also provides the ability to take notes with a stylus on devices that allow for this, making it possible to annotate and mark up typed notes.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

Microsoft OneNote frequently experiences syncing issues, losing work I've completed and asking me to log in multiple times. This happens across platforms.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft OneNote:**

If price is not an issue, consider other solutions with better syncing.

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Organizing notes into categories and taking notes across multiple devices

  ### 17. Necessary evil when not having Evernote

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 24, 2018

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

I do like the ability to take notes easily, save and share via email. However, compared to applications like Evernote, this product is far behind. Unfortunately my work only allows us to use this product.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

Lack of "cloud" functions, and issues with notes getting saved when moving across regions and systems. Sharing and collaborating could also be made a lot better.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft OneNote:**

If you have the choice - go with EVernote!

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Taking notes from client meetings, projects, etc.

  ### 18. Good as a notebook; I wish there were more project planning functions.

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nathan H. | Student Mentor, M.S. Ed. Leadership Program, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 13, 2017

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

I like the ability for flexible placement of text and images within pages. I appreciate the effort at making mobile-friendly versions, although the Android app is not extremely practical.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

The loose hierarchical structure of content organization is clunky. While this might be a good tool for casual notetaking, organizing those notes becomes cumbersome because of the UI.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft OneNote:**

While this software may be useful for casual users, it does not seem to meet enterprise-level requirements as a project planning tool, and I see that as the way this software should go. Nobody wants to take notes in a vacuum - they want to use those notes in making something. That's where OneNote falls short for me.

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When I use OneNote, it's generally to sketch out quick ideas. I like that the file can sync across my computers and other devices. However, the lack of social features and the clunky taxonomy of pages keeps this from being my primary creative environment as I work on a project.

  ### 19. Time consuming

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 16, 2018

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

Similar to writing in a notebook. Can draw and things, it just takes a lot of time and patience.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

Extremely time consuming and saving info is annoying.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft OneNote:**

Make easier to use and less confusing.

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None

  ### 20. Not user friendly

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Staffing and Recruiting | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2017

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

I like how OneNote provides a space for creating documents to share with the office.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

The interface is not user friendly. As powerful as I suspect OneNote can be, most of my office could not figure out how to use it.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft OneNote:**

Invest in some training.

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We made training guides with OneNote that could be shared online or saved as PDFs.

  ### 21. Clumsy handling

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2017

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

You can type, copy pictures, add charts, add tables

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

Ugly, not sleek. More design options and a more intuitive interface would be appreciated.

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Note keeping

  ### 22. One Note

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Aviation & Aerospace | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 21, 2016

**What do you like best about Microsoft OneNote?**

well not much, it is nice that there is a tool within Outlook to take notes, although it is not intuitive or user friendly.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft OneNote?**

I would probably not recommend usage, it is not an intuitive add-in and is not very user friendly either. I suggest that Microsoft agree on a format that users are used to (IE: Excel or WORD) to make inserting notes more efficient and less frustrating.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft OneNote:**

probably stick to another program for notes if you don't want to go totally crazy.

**What problems is Microsoft OneNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was hoping to solve the problem of keeping my notes for meetings in one place within the meeting notices so that I can refer back to them and make them during current and subsequent meetings.
