**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

What i like most about project & portfolio management by Microsoft is the amazing tracking features it gives when used on a project. The software allows you to use gantt-chart to monitor and record progress, notice lag in some departments / units .Used in cost-analysis risk management.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

What i dislike is that it doesn't allow for a lot of customization Without a sound training and knowledge of operating the management tool ,the operation becomes complex and difficult. The overall license of this product is expensive and other alternatives comes as cheaper for almost same value

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Microsoft has been used to track most of the projects in my organization. It has come in handy for project managers and the respective department project task managers.

  ### 2. great tool for project management and scheduling

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alfonso P. | Sourcing analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2019

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

great tool to set up and follow up project activities coordination, scheduling, and discussing project productivity.
Allows for resource planning and understanding key blockers.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Sometimes it is an overkill for smaller/simpler projects.
The gantt views are either too broad or to detailed. A more executive view or summary timeline is necessary.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

great tool, enterprise grade (you will find it in various companies), however, it needs a lot of training to do even simple things. It is intimidating at times.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

project management, resource planning and resource management

  ### 3. An impressive tool for your projects

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tülay S. | Data Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2019

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Microsoft PPM; In general, it is a good option for managing projects in the office environment. Allows you to manage projects and set their time and activities as part of the Office suite. You can design your templates as you like. Allows members to work with your project, plan and monitor the development of activities, and access project data from anywhere. In addition to alternatives, you can create graphs and diagrams to visualize data.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

The biggest drawback to me is that the subscription is very expensive. If you do not have experience with this type of tool, or if it is complicated to use, you will find the program not worth trying. This software is less functional to use tools than other Microsoft programs such as Project. Because there are too many tools and functions for this, and sometimes it is difficult to find the right one.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

The Microsoft project may sometimes have problems with linked items. When a link is removed from events, this project manager likes to maintain that link from time to time to create a new link. It's easy to manage, update, and add new events or split existing events. To add more details to the gant table, you can quickly change my view from all project, year, month, and week views.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

An easy way to create project statistics and graphs visually is through this software. I have experimented with Microsoft Project and it seems to be a very useful software for any kind of project management use. The help feature is great and is a successful software application that I use for my projects.

Literally changed my career track because of this software. **What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

It certainly does it's job and does it very well but the license price tag is outrageous, I will use any other program if my company didn't had the license already.

The overview and integration between projects and timelines are just marvelous. The time saved by having a visual map of possible overlap is great all way around.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eva G. | Technical Project Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 29, 2018

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

With Project, I like that I can keep track of all tasks, see how they relate to each other and where they fit in chronologically. I especially like that it will automatically calculate start/complete dates based on the amount of time it takes to complete and its predecessor tasks.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

My least favorite thing is how difficult it is to share with other people. Few people that I work with have Project on their computers, so I have to export it to excel or pdf for them to see it, but they can't modify it. It's just a pain.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

It's a good product that has a lot of value. I find it helpful to keep track of project tasks when there are a lot of tasks to manage. It isn't necessarily the most user-friendly, though, and it is not necessarily the easiest one to share with others if they don't have Project as well, so I would keep that in mind when deciding whether or not to purchase it.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helps me keep track of what tasks need to be accomplished and when everything needs to get done. It just helps me be more organized than I would be without it.

Microsoft offers three levels of software licensing to choose the best fit for your company needs.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

In general, this software have all that an application of this type must have, so it is difficult to find something bad about the product, but I think that Microsoft could innovate adding some features like management modules for quality, acquisitions and other important knowledge areas of project management methodology standars.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

Microsoft offers three levels of licensing, but my recommendation is to start using the intermediate or highest package if you want to use the real benefits of the software, because the essential one doesn't have enough features to do a real difference.

The online office implies that assets can see their undertakings without needing MS project introduced on their PCs and they likewise don't need any information of MS Project. This makes it simple to send in a major association where there might be spending imperatives.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

In the other hand, you have to think about the measure of your project and friends, and considering that it is a month to month membership (counting access to the cloud) that you should pay for each client, it can wind up being generally costly toward the month's end.

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

I like the way we can manage the task of a project, the resources, how to track the projects and see what is next. Another thing I like most is the bars that it shows with a calendar showing you what's next. How you can add task to a project, that you can establish a percent of finish on an specific project, so I like everything about it.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Don't really know what I dislike. I like everything of it. One thing I sometimes don't like is that I get lost when managing projects, but then I get back when I start to figure out what's going on.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

I think Microsoft Project is the software you need to manage all your projects. I don't know any other tool that can manage your project like this. **Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2018

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

I love that I can easily transfer my project details that have already been created in Excel, then simply transfer that info into MS Project, then just make simple changes such as indent, outdent, then simply add in my project start and end dates, etc.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

I would have to say that I wish I can simply use an existing Excel file, click a CONVERT button and be able to use that feature/function in order to save more time as opposed to creating a whole new Project Plan each and every time I need to create a new Project Plan.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

None at this time

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Just tracking project milestones, resource names, start and end dates, tasks, etc.

  ### 44. The leader in terms of management and project management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pedro C. | Gerente General, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 01, 2018

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Although in my current work I do not use this program, for a couple of years I deepened enough in its use during the execution of the hydroelectric plant Carlos Manuel Piar in Venezuela with the company IMPSA Caribe, there I knew first-hand the great potential that this program, it is fantastic to manage, organize and manage resources in projects of any kind, it uses a very familiar interface, very similar to the rest of the microsoft officce programs, its learning curve is somewhat elevated, it is not a program so simple to use there is a tutorial or someone with more experience willing to help you, It is a fundamental tool for anyone who wants to efficiently manage their resources in any work or project.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

In this section I do not have much to add, I think the program is quite complete and very well fulfills its main objective, I just have to say that the learning curve of the program is something strong, you can not always execute what you want without the help of someone else or failing any tutorial. I am very satisfied with the performance of this software, however, another point where Microsoft could improve its creation would be in the optimization of the final product because the program demands a good amount of resources from the team where it is executed.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

Widely recommended to any company that requires to control, supervise and manage their projects efficiently, in the area of construction has become a fundamental tool to ensure the monitoring and completion of the works

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In general lines, thanks to this software I could have a more complete vision of the project before and during the execution of it, it is fundamental in the decision making in order to optimize economic and human resources. It also helps a lot in determining critical routes.

  ### 45. Good for waterfall projects, trickier for agile projects

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2018

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

I appreciate how project plans can be edited in both the standalone application and in the online platform. The online platform is valuable for collaboration across an organization where only a handful of people actually have the Project application license / installation.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

The project plans follow a traditional waterfall structure and I found it difficult to adapt for agile projects. There is not much opportunity to integrate with other systems and/or communicate with resources about the tasks assigned to them. Resources can view tasks and submit records of their project, but each person has their own "approver" for those submissions, which was not viable in my situation where multiple project managers would be overseeing the work of a single resource.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

MS Project should work fine if you are overseeing traditional, waterfall projects. If you are working on agile projects, there are other options such as Smartsheets and Jira that will probably work better.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My organization used Project Management mostly for its project management capabilities; we didn't focus as much on the portfolio management functions.

MS Project enables me to put together quick yet comprehensive project plans. I also like being able to easily export plans to MS Excel for those that do not have access to MS Project.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Down side no one can collaborate if they don’t have it.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Time constraints

  ### 49. Intuitive, traditional and efficient

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michell R. | Gerente de Proyectos, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

It is easy to assimilate, you learn quickly to use each functionality. Diagrams and reports are generated automatically. Task inspector functionality allows you to quickly correct errors on resource occupancy and gives you the best suggestions to be applied. The wizard for Gantt diagrams allows you to configure the type of report you want to generate depending on the user's profile, and it is generated in no more than 5 clicks.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Limited ability to use unusual colors in highlights and words. A better tool to correct errors (easier to use)

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

If your company requires a tool that allows you to define tasks and activities, durations, start and end dates, precedences, resources involved, budgets, critical path identification, reports, and project performance reports, you must prove it. It is also the most reputable and useful tool in the business world, with training courses that allow you to manage, control, and manage projects responsibly and professionally.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Visibility to apply solutions. Control of tasks and activities of the project. Easier tracking of tasks, resources, and budget. Reports generated quickly.

  ### 50. An excellent program for project management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ricardo M. | Consultor en gestión de proyectos, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2018

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

It is a powerful tool. You can generate schedules, timelines and Gantt charts. It has detailed options for managing project resources, assigning them to each activity that has been defined. It also has a module that allows you to customize the reports that are generated. Reports can be generated within the same program, allowing to structure them at the user's convenience. In general, the interface of the program is quite pleasant.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

The learning curve can be quite slow, in addition, initially the program can be difficult to use. In addition to the above, it can not be integrated with many applications that are not part of the Microsoft programs. It should be noted that it is much more expensive than other programs used to manage projects. The allocation of resources requires a lot of information and can be a bit tedious

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

Before using Microsoft Project, you can review some tutorials or take some courses, so that you have an idea of how the program should be used to manage a project

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can assign the resources to the defined activities, and even manage the value gained to verify the progress of the project according to the planned schedule. I can make the daily, weekly or monthly reports within the same program, without needing to use others for its preparation
