Power BI Desktop being "free" as part of an Office subscription is a big selling point as it's easy to adopt. The visualisations are basic and it does a reasonable job for entry level Business Intelligence. PBI is suited towards organisations that use the Microsoft stack, and data is best to be stored pre-formatted in a data warehouse. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Microsoft Power BI? Power BI is not suited towards enterprise customers, as it's handling of large data volumes is particularly poor. The product lacks scalability in this regard, as it can take hours to load large data volumes whereas other tools such as Qlik Sense can load similar volumes in seconds or minutes. Data transformation is difficult as you need to learn M and DAX languages, which aren't intuitive and easy to learn. The query based nature of the tool means the configuration is complex and paths are linear and need to be setup, as opposed to Qlik Sense which has an association discovery model which automates this. Governance of users is an issue with regards to license allocation and security (who has access to what). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Power BI: You should always look at the total cost of ownership of the tool in comparison with others if adopting a business intelligence tool for a wide organisation. Power BI has enabled us to perform basic BI analysis and report creation, which has allowed users previously unfamiliar with BI to get started creating their own dashboards.
