I love Microsoft Entra ID for its seamless integration with a wide range of applications and services, both inside and outside the Microsoft ecosystem. Its Conditional Access policies give me granular control over user access, which allows for tailored security based on user identity, device compliance, and location. The single sign-on (SSO) capability enhances user experience while keeping robust security standards intact. Overall, Entra ID effectively balances security and usability, making identity management simpler for organizations. Additionally, the initial setup was perfect and easy. I like that Microsoft Entra ID provides a single point of entry for every service, so there's no need to log into each one individually. The access management is very advanced, allowing me to cover some nuanced permissions. I'm not sure if it's a disadvantage, but because Microsoft has a lot of services and they are connected between each other, it requires you to learn how to set it up correctly because sometimes it works incorrectly after the initial setup. I have used Microsoft Entra ID to create app registrations, which I’m currently using to set up email integration between Microsoft and other applications I’m working on. For example, I use Fluent SMTP to connect my website with my Microsoft 365 email. Entra ID helps with the authentication side by providing an authentication token, Application ID and client secret. Overall, it’s been easy to set up. I also use it regularly with other apps, such as RTIR, to connect to mail so I can read and write emails from within those applications without having to log into my email directly. I like Microsoft Entra ID's seamless integration with our Microsoft cloud platform, which is a great fit for our new project as we were moving towards a Microsoft environment. I appreciate its scalability and all the built-in tools like MFA and passwordless logins that are great too. We use MFA on a daily basis, and it is a good addition to our authentication process. I think it should provide good support to non-Microsoft environments as well. I appreciate the seamless integration with Microsoft 365 and other cloud applications, which boosts productivity while cutting down on operational complexity. While Microsoft Entra ID is a powerful identity platform, there are a few areas where I feel it could be improved. One challenge I experience is complexity in configuration and policy management. Features like Conditional Access and identity governance are very powerful, but they come with a learning curve. The policy setup and troubleshooting process can sometimes be difficult, especially when multiple policies interact and affect sign-in behavior. Licensing clarity is another area for improvement. Some advanced features such as Conditional Access, Identity Protection, and access governance require specific premium licenses. It’s not always straightforward to understand which features are included in which license, which can make planning and cost management more difficult. I’ve also found that documentation and UI consistency could be better. With frequent updates and rebranding from Azure AD to Entra ID, some documentation and portal navigation still feel inconsistent or outdated, which can slow down implementation and troubleshooting. Troubleshooting sign-in issues can sometimes be time-consuming. While logs are detailed, identifying the exact reason for access failures or policy blocks isn’t always intuitive, particularly for less experienced administrators. Lastly, integration with non-Microsoft or legacy applications occasionally requires additional configuration or workarounds compared to Microsoft-native services, where the experience is much smoother.
