**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane has been a game-changer for our data monitoring and lineage tracking. The tool's ability to alert us when a model's monitor falls out of range has allowed us to proactively address data issues that previously would have gone unnoticed, as our dbt tests are strategically set to fail under a more stringent set of constraints and dbt alerts tend to be noisier and more difficult to preemptively define. This feature, combined with the ability to understand downstream lineage from the Metaplane UI, has significantly improved our troubleshooting process, allowing us to resolve potential data issues before our stakeholders are even aware of them. 

Additionally, Metaplane's customer support and product teams have been exceptional. They are prompt, professional, and highly receptive to our suggestions for new features. In fact, they have already rolled out multiple new features and improvements based on our feedback. They provided onboarding and implementation assistance as well, which made for a successful rollout very quickly upon procuring the software. 

We've particularly appreciated the ability to monitor external tables, a common method we use for loading data from S3. Additionaly, the ability to connect dbt models' downstream exposures to Tableau has been incredibly useful. And finally, the ability to define monitors via the UI or yaml in our dbt project has provided flexibility when and where we need it.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

While Metaplane offers a wealth of features that we find invaluable, there is one area where we believe there is room for improvement: the Tableau connector. We've been using Metaplane daily for several months now, and this is the only aspect that has not fully met our expectations. However, given Metaplane's track record of responsiveness to customer feedback, we are confident that they will continue to refine and improve this feature.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1. Proactive Data Quality Assurance: Metaplane's monitoring capabilities allow us to catch and address data issues early in the pipeline. This proactive approach is more flexible than a full on dbt build failure and ensures the integrity of our data.

2. Efficient Troubleshooting: The ability to understand downstream lineage from the Metaplane UI streamlines our troubleshooting process. We can quickly identify and resolve potential data issues before they impact our stakeholders, saving time and resources.

3. Improved Data Management: The flexibility of setting monitors via the UI or our dbt project yaml, along with the ability to monitor both external tables upstream and Tableau dashboards downstream enhances our data management processes. These features provide us with more control and visibility over our data, making it easier to manage.

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

1. It's extremely easy to set up and maintain. What you see is what you get--there aren't any sneaky and painful configurations to get your data flowing and the tests up and running. Because of this, we were able to get immediate value within the same week after the underlying models had some time to become familiar with our data.

2. We love that metaplane handles all of the learning! One of our biggest pain points with our old testing was that we were limited by fixed threshold tests. We were consistently getting alerted for false positives and it required extra development time to determine the correct freshness for a data source. This isn't sustainable, and I'm happy that metaplane could take it off our hands and do it better!

3. I appreciate the lineage as well. When we get alerted, it's a lot easier to see what reports and models would be impacted, which really speads up the resolution time.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

My only criticism is with the custom metrics. We tend to immitate the metrics that we have in our reporting, since our main use case is for analytics. But as metrics change in our reporting platform, we also have to go and update this in metaplane. It becomes pretty cumbersome to maintain. It would be nice to have tests for these types of objects, but I'm sure that adds a whole other layer of complexity.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Freshness of data (pointing to any breaks in the pipelines or bugs in the modelling)
- Speeding up the time to resolve bugs
- Keeping our data warehouse clean, by pointing out least used models

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane offers a lot of pre-canned features out of the box, which make it easy to use for non-technical users. However, it's custom SQL features also make it very powerful and flexible for more technical users. The Metaplane team is quick to respond to our questions and has even prioritized features that we requested.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

The chief downside with Metaplane, as with any alerting tool, is the amount of noise it generates. Test sensitivity is on the stricter side by default, and some improvements could be made with factoring in seasonality. I'm looking forward to some features they have in the roadmap that should help reduce the noise.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane primarily alerts us when data "out of our control" is changed in a way we don't expect. Think of ingestion going down or upstream data producers changing a field without our knowledge. For instance, it's caught problems with Heap's Snowflake data share and Fivetran silently failing. It also alerts us when Engineering makes a data migration without letting us know.

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane is the data observability tool that perfectly fits our needs and it has become a game-changer for improving the quality of our data!

With few clicks, you can set up your monitors and tracking/responding to data quality issues has never been so quick and easy! You can apply some pre-defined tests and/or define some customized ones, using the custom SQL functionality. The automated detection of anomalies works very well and the Slack integration is key to keep track of all notifications and alerts in real-time. 

The UI is easy to navigate and, to name one of the available features, the end-to-end lineage shows how the data flows from the data sources to the BI tool.

You can have visibility on all schema changes happening to your data models and this for us has been a great win to detect any new fields and/or any new values in them.

Lastly, another outstanding characteristic I would like to highlight is the level and quality of support you get from the Metaplane team. They listen to your needs and are always very helpful. They take into consideration your feedback and are often able to make fixes and/or develop new features based on what you shared with them.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Metaplane becomes very powerful with the experience and the usage of the tool and the different features. 

Even if monitors are easy to set up, you need to find out the right balance and apply only the ones that you consider useful because alerts can become very noisy at one point.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane helps our data to be stable, reliable and accurate. We have now a proactive behaviour and in case of any data quality issue, we can act quickly, before this causes impact on our data platform and on the downstream analysis on which our stakeholders rely.

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

With Metaplane, one can determine how fields in the database are used in tableau dashboards.  The ability to inspect into the tableau dashboards avoids running into subsequent issues where database changes break the dashboards.

There are limitations, and presumably as Metaplane improves this functionality it will be better...

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

I am specifically using for introspection into tableau dashboards.  I found the Metaplane UI to be very frustrating, with limited capabilities for search, filtering, and a lot of redundant results.  Am confident these issues can be addressed by Metaplane engineering (mostly UI) and would result in an excellent tool that I would give even higher marks to.  I hope Metaplane engineering makes these investments.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Identifying how database changes (renaming fields, dropping fields) may impact tableau dashboards downstream.

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

The slack alerts (including the buttons), the many different ways to track the data in a table, and the custom SQL functionality. The ability to receive and manage alerts via slack really makes my life a lot easier because I don't have to keep a metaplane tab open in my browser or navigate the website. 

The snowflake usage monitoring is pretty great for keeping track of my database spend, as it is terrifyingly easy to overspend on Snowflake.

I'm also quite pleased about the schema change notifications in Slack since it allows me to be aware of basically anything that changes about my database schema.

The DBT integrations are fantastic. Anything that helps me mitigate risk during data changes is a huge help. I've been a 1-person team for the majority of my time so having metaplane looking at my data is (once again) like having part-time a QA engineer helping me out.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

The website can sometimes be too much trouble to navigate. Metaplane provides an enormous amount of information on the website but I generally just like to keep it simple. I'm hoping that they'll focus on improving the initial experience on the site to surface the most pertinent information first. I believe that may be in the works for the future.

I also would love to see more Slack alerting/reporting since it's my preferred way to receive alerts and - when possible - manage my environment. We've got enough tools already, without having to manage yet another.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a BI architect at a startup we have a lot to get done and not much time to do it. So naturally data QA can often take a backseat. Metaplane basically takes care of my QA for me which makes my life vastly simpler and helps me detect issues with my data quickly, which helps me deliver higher-quality data to my end users and stakeholders than would be possible otherwise. Table freshness detection also helps me identify when one of my ETL/ELT jobs may be failing or not pulling data properly.

With the updates to the product, Metaplane also now alerts me to schema changes and proactively QAs PRs I set up in GitHub using the DBT Slim CI integration. These are huge drivers of value for us.

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane is an easy to use Data Observability solution that works out-of-the-box. It allows users to quickly integrate all of the tools in their data stack (e.g. Snowflake, Databricks, DBT, Tableau) and ingest the metadata about the data to start developing an understanding of the patterns and trends within the ecosystem. Best of all, Metaplane doesn't ingest *your* data, per se, but rather focuses on the metadata, all of which is derived in your data systems.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

As with any new tool, Metaplane is still undergoing development. For many organizations, Metaplane lacks some key user management functionality like roles and permissions, as well as a few other nuance things however, the best thing about a small, nimble, company like Metaplane is that they're always willing to listen, add requests to their backlog, and get them done!

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane allowed us to abandon an internally-produced observability tool since their solution works right out of the box. We can understand how data is being ingested, what data might be missing, and what kind of patterns are emerging that signal when things are going well... or not.

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Hands down the range of observability features of Metaplane, they level up your data platform by allowing you to ask questions of your data from many different perspectives.

Next up would be the seamless integrations with other components of the data stack. To name one specific feature that was recently release, 'Monitors as code'. This is a big win for the data platform in our organization to centralize the context and logic of our data transformations and observations.

Lastly, another strength of Metaplane is that the company listens to feedback and responds to it. Whether that be delivering on the feature that was originally requested or creating somerthing entirely novel to solve for the initial problem statement.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

We jumped into Metaplane monitors with two feet and learned that the alerts can be noisy when not used in the correct context, striking the balance between too many alerts and observability everywhere is a journey and it would be great to see more documentation from Metaplane to support this process.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Providing visibility on the stability, freshness and quality of data. In addition, allowing this to happen in a centralized fashion where the data transformation logic lives to enable a bigger picture view of the data platform.

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

The ability to build customer monitors via custom SQL and eaisly integrate those monitors with Slack for alerting. I love the intregration with Slack so we can clear alerts directly within the Slack app (even within mobile).

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

How much have you to spoon-feed the custom SQL monitors to get the results to work perfectly. It can be tedious but definitely not a deal breaker. Deeper investigation into the who/what is driving an alert is something this doesn't immediately solve for.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have an number of metrics that flow into our GTM systems that are used for scoring that affects compensation. Before deploying Metaplane we'd often have to hear about an issue from someone noticing an incorrect score. Now that we have set up over 100 monitors we always catch it before anyone else and often have it resolved before noon the same day.

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane has given us unprecedented insight and observability into our end-to-end data structure. By giving us full control over partioning, monitoring, and alerting thresholds, we feel more in control of our data, and are significantly more proactive in our investigations, rather than reactive.

The Metaplane customer support is also second-to-none. A thorough ramp-up time, along with weekly check-ins and regular Slack support, has helped get us up to speed in record time. The Metaplane team is always happy to hear feedback, and regularly incorporates ideas we've discussed in earlier syncs.

The platform overall is fairly easy to use, and keeps getting better. Monitors and alerts are easily tagged, and digging into the underlying data lineage is straightforward from any of the alert or incident pages. The recent addition of tag-based dashboards and alerts is a huge win for us as well.

Our team is in Metaplane multiple times a day, and (with few exceptions) it's quick to load, quick to function and maintains reliable uptime.

Very happy with our Metaplane engagement so far, and excited to see what the future holds!

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Our data structure is unique in a way that means we aren't able to control the monitors at exactly the level of granularity we'd like. However, this has been discussed as a potential upcoming change to the Metaplane platform, and doesn't hinder our ability to use the platform in its current state.

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane filled a need in our organization right out of the box - a robust, easily implemented suite of tests on our data warehouse, which affects our internal stakeholders, and our sources, which affects our own data operations. 

Over the course of our usage, the feature development coming out of the product has always proven useful. The Metaplane team truly listens to the customers and develops meaningful new add-ons, while refining the implementation of existing features. This has driven our product adoption and helped us make the most of the investment in the tool.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Metaplane has a narrow solution scope, whereas their competitors may offer many other data products in addition to a testing suite. I personally prefer the option to pick which components we would like to add to our data tech stack (thereby controlling for vendor lock in), this may be a downside to some.

To alleviate this, I hope the team continues to develop integrations with other tools (especially incident or project management tools) to allow for the value they provide to be plugged into many different tech stacks.

Metaplane solves for monitoring and testing by providing a systematic way to apply and remove monitors on raw and transformed data. This makes it significantly easier for us to monitor hundreds of models without maintaining custom SQL tests for every model.

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplanes connection into BI tools like Tableau helps us tremendously when troubleshooting issues in the gray areas of a fledgling data governance system. We don't need to rely on a VP+ informing us that data looks off with Metaplane and can be seemingly much more proactive with the alerts we receive. Metaplane has empowered our > 40 analysts to own their final stage data in a way that is much more scalable than trying to hire engineering talent at the same scale, epecially since it is non-technical user friendly. Besides that, I find the team driving the roadmap incredibly amenable and responsive to our needs. We asked for a feature around tracking lineage of custom queries in Tableau, they set a timeline and delivered. Implementation of the tool is incredibly easy as well, making it a quick turn around as part of the build process for net new models.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Don't think this is specific to Metaplane, but as we integrate the tool more with our data eco system, the growing amount of alerts can become cumbersome.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They're inserting themselves upstream of our executive stakeholders to prevent the issues around data integrity and allowing us to spot them MUCH faster than anyone receiving reporting could.

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Setup was very quick and only took a few hours. Metaplane has great documentation. The tool integrates seamlessly with our entire data stack.

This has been a fantastic force multiplier for our data team, and for our engineering department in general. Having broad visibility into schema changes and monitoring alerts reduces the amount of direct ad-hoc communication required. I also use the data lineage feature nearly every day.

Customer support has been thorough and thoughtful.

Some types of monitors can be very noisy. This is simply a reality of any data monitoring tool, but if your org needs to use Metaplane effectively, the directly responsible individual should regularly return to monitors

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

In the past we relied on clunky dashboards and business users to let us know when data looked funky. The Executive Driven Testing (EDT) approach is less than ideal and Metaplane was able to help us get ahead of issues before our users discovered them.

Configuring Metaplane was a very seamless process and within an hour we had it monitor our key data models. Within a week of deployment it was catching issues that we had no idea were happening. I sleep a bit easier at night knowing that Metaplane has our back in the department of data quality. 

When choosing technologies to adopt and invest in a big factor is my faith in their team. I've gotten to know quite a few people in their org and am very impressed - the entire team is extremely talented and hyper focused on building tools that help us solve tough problems.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

As we have grown the number of alerts have grown, especially as more users adopt the platform which can lead to alert faituge. In my experience this is not unique to Metaplane, and rather the product of an extremely fast growing organization that moves fast and sometimes breaks things (though Metaplane is helping us break less).

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane identifies issues faster than any human could. We're able to configure monitors to look at a near infinite number of data models and feel confident that it'll catch issues that are impossible to predict.

I love how easy Metaplane was to get set up to start making an impact. The UI is intuative and flexible so we were able to get our instance stood up and start monitoring super quick. The team was also excellent with handling our questions and feedback.

I really have no complaints, I think there are features we're interested in but they seem to be on the roadmap!

I love that Metaplane connects to slack. With our data alerts slack channel, I'm immediately alerted by Metaplane with any issues in our database tables, or any schema changes done by the engineering team as they happen. Metaplane enables the data team to be more proactive and react quicker than before when detecting data issues!

I would love the ability for metaplane to detect more data driven changes, like if we create a custom table that tracks a KPI daily. Would love if Metaplane can track the KPI over time and effectively alert us when the metric drastically changes, alerting us of a potential issue quickly! (for example, conversion rate)

Metaplane enables the data team to detect database problems quickly and allows us to fix them a lot quicker than if we weren't. For example, when a major table fails to run in the pipeline refresh, and all dependant tables fail to run, it will let us know first thing in the morning so we can let the team know that data has not refreshed accurately like it was supposed to.

The features my team love and use the most include:
(1) The lineage visualizations that show how the data flows from the raw source to the final BI tool - the UI is straightforward to interact with, which makes tracing much easier;
(2) The automated tests that use machine learning to identify when there are anomalies; and
(3) The integration with Github which provides insights on any noticeable shifts in existing data models.

The team at Metaplane is also super helpful and responsive! They are able to make fixes and develop new features quickly, while taking into consideration our feedback.

Shallow learning curve - it was effortless to start using it and I was able to add value in no time. 

Extremely responsive support team - always have answers, feedback, and even product updates with features you are looking for.

Integration with Slack - we have hundreds of pipelines being automatically monitored by the Metaplane and sending different types of alerts  relevant channels, based on severity, source, etc.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

It doesn't have lots of bells and whistles. The functionality is a bit limited in features, but it can be beneficial if you are looking for a lean product.

We do have some false positives from time to time, where the record count changes infrequently and the system doesn’t expect it.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane helps with monitoring the helth of the data. It allows my team to be proactive and resolve problems with data before they surface up in reports. 

For one platform we are using Metaplane mostly for freshness and row count tests, alerting us if any of the scheduled pipelines failed or something unexpected happened with data. For another platform we rely on a large set of custom tests we created. Schema drift alerts are very helpful as well. 

As I mentioned everything is detected automatically and routed to a proper Slack channel for the team to address. Helped us to prevent disasters a number of times.
 
When troubleshooting/fixing the issues features likes data lineage across platforms allows us to quickly identify problems and resolve them saving a lot of time.

1. Implementation – It was a breeze and took less than an hour. We simply linked our Snowflake, dbt, Tableau, and Metabase accounts, enabled the core monitors, and waited for Metaplane to train itself. We had to provide minimal feedback to the training process to root out a handful of false positives in the first few days, but then we were off to the races.

2. Lineage from warehouse to BI tools – Sure, dbt's lineage view is helpful within its own ecosystem, but being able to trace from BI report all the way up to the data's root source in the warehouse quickly in a single view without having to review a bunch of code saves our team a ton of time, especially in high pressure situations.

3. The GitHub integration – Talk about a tool saving you from yourself. The CI/CD feature has prevented many breaking changes from being introduced (we all make mistakes sometimes, right?). Metaplane's "impact preview" and "test preview" features are the primary reason I love it so much. Impact preview reinforces Metaplane's lineage capabilities, and test preview provides great insight into statistical changes your PR will have on your data output.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Minor complaint that I know the Metaplane team is actively working on: the UI. UI iterations have been frequent as Metaplane continues to deploy new features and experiments with the best way to surface and/or visualize its insights. With time, this should smooth out.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

See comments about lineage and CI/CD checks in the "what do you like" section. Otherwise, we also rely on Metaplane's alerting features pretty heavily. We are a small team of only three people that support a company of roughly 300, so we can't be everywhere at once. **What do you like best about Metaplane?**

We arrived at Metaplane while searching for an anomaly detection solution. Within a couple of days, Metaplane had us convinced - we (the data team) not only caught errors before they were noticed downstream, giving us time to investigate and correct before the exec meetings, Metaplane also gave us insight into patterns in our data that we were unaware of, allowing us to better understand and explain some quirks in our pipelines and dashboards.

That was great and met our needs. However we've also discovered Metaplane's table and column level lineage, especially in combination with Sigma, dbt, and Github integrations, to be one of those "never knew it existed, but now can't live without it" tools. Every time I make a change to a model (so every day), the first thing I do is check what downstream dependencies I might break - the column-level lineage means there is exactly one page I have to look at to decide whether I can just push or whether I have to make plans for a fast fix. There are several other smaller things that we have been surprised and delighted by as well. Talk with the sales people and you too will find something you never knew existed and now can't get by without.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

I'm going to be a jerk and say something impossible: the thing that I would like is more customizability. Most concretely I would like to be able to put several very similar monitors, instead of toggling them on/off (ie, cardinality with different WHERE clauses), and some insight into the structure of the predictive models. Ideally, I would like to toggle from "drag and drop" to "code" mode. If Metaplane can keep moving toward that direction, I will be happy :)

Metaplane was an easy sell on my team and the greater company — it gives us a complete overview of our data from source to visualization. As a newer data team inheriting legacy code, we're still learning the ins and outs of our data, but implementing Metaplane has allowed us to identify upstream schema changes that may not be directly communicated to us. We've even been able to monitor our Snowflake usage using Metaplane's ML algorithm to ensure we're not exceeding anticipated spend.

On top of this, the team at Metaplane is one of the best I've ever worked with. They're always eager to check in with us about any bugs we may be seeing and bounce new ideas off of us based on our particular use cases.

Metaplane is a newer tool, so with that comes a few quirks — not a complaint, as I know the team has a lot on their roadmap! We were first looking for a tool that can integrate with key elements of our data stack, including Fivetran, Snowflake, dbt, and Looker to find data quality issues. Setting up the tool to these integrations was very simple and can be done in less than a day.

The ease of use extends to beyond implementation, monitors for data quality including freshness or dbt job durations were also setup with a few clicks - we didn't need to manually configure any of these models to tell it what to alert on. Instead, we just sat back and watched alerts to our slack channels let us know where to direct our data quality efforts. Also nice to know when schema changes happen so that we can adjust our models that use those objects.

It's nice that the platform manages itself to keep updating what counts as a real alert for each monitor.

It's very easy to set up connections and provides immediate observability into your warehouses. Continuous improvement in test models provide fantastic anomaly detection.  It’s not always perfect, but Metaplane folks are always eager to take feedback from their customers and incorporate it into their apps development.

Our platform has many batch processes that leave an audit trail, and we're using Metaplance to provide us the quick insight we need on the status of such critical jobs. The best part of Metaplane is its ML algorithm for understanding the shape and trends of existing data. This feature saves tremendous time in setting up meaningful alerts and notifications. For example, instead of you trying to manually figure out what the right daily record count is supposed be, Metaplane's algorithm automatically learns what the right count should be.

In my experience, this algorithm is right 99% of the time, and on the rare occasions where adjustments need to be made, corrective feedback can be easily given to the algorithm with a few clicks in the UI.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Metaplane is a fast-growing company, and sometimes newly released features are a bit rough around the edges. For example, in one of the alerts I received, the name of the failed data quality test came through as an internal ID of some sort, instead of a human-understandable name of the affected table.

Despite annoyance from these blips, they’ve also proven responsive Metaplane is to customer feedback. When I reported the problem with the alert notifications, the issue was fixed almost immediately by the team!

Metaplane helps a lean team of data engineers monitor the health of thousands of tables. Checking every table one by one manually every day is impossible, but Metaplane provides excellent coverage on data quality issues with minimal human maintenance.

Metaplane makes it very easy to be identified when there are issues with your data environment.  It uses AI to learn what patterns are typical for your data so that it can notify you of discrepancies without you having to set thresholds for every test.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

When you first start using the tool you may get a lot of false alarms as it learns your data and you learn how to fine-tune the controls so that it only alerts you about priority issues.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane helps us identify data issues sooner.  We used to only find out we had data issues when users alerted us that reports looked odd or were broken.  Sometimes this was days after the actual incident occurred.  With Metaplane we usually fix data errors before our stakeholders notice them and before they influence decisions.

Metaplane allows us to define custom metrics such as CPU utilization, Cache size of dB and API endpoints response time, which are critical for our application overview. We can easily track dependencies between our infrastructure resources with its Traceability dashboard. Its logs are fine-grained in such a way that it's easy to comprehend our data observability demands during customer transactions.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Metaplane effectively helps us overcome data baseline & bottlenecks by providing clarity on which data models could be optimized for our enhancements. We also evaluate which transformations we need to prioritize by going through its Observability dashboard. Overall, we are satisfied with the services offered by Metaplane as it seamlessly connects with Amazon Redshift & we can generate baselines within minutes.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Metaplane, alert categorization & configuration is straightforward as we look up its severity and determine whether it's within the expected range in its dashboard. We can add custom SQL tests whose results would be monitored continuously by Metaplane agents. It effectively collects metrics, lineage, logs and metadata and sends an alert notification whenever it detects anomalies in our data stack operations.

Metaplane is a tool that any data-centered company should adopt. Metaplane allows our team to effectively tackle data quality issues with automated Slack alerts, gain better insight into our data usage by tracking table lineage, and let's us easily add, alter, or adjust testing to any tables in our database. The custom SQL tests you can apply add a breadth of variety to the different types of data issues you might face.


The support team is also incredibly thoughtful and receptive, and you can tell that they put a lot of time and care into their product and the customers who use it.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Metaplane is in its early phase as a company, so some features can feel raw and exploratory. The primary purpose of Metaplane as a data observability platform isn't lost; however, and the team is constantly iterating and improving upon their product, so there's not much I can complain about.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There have been numerous times when data has been missing or we've had data consistency issues, and Metaplane was the first to notify us of them. There have also been times when we've needed a historical record of changes to our data, and we were fortunate enough to have Metaplane document those changes in our backlogs.

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane has helped us build trust with end users and improved alerting to data engineers and analytics engineers. It is such a simple plug-in solution compared to the hours/weeks/months it would have taken an engineer to build a fraction of what Metaplane does alerting-wise. Metaplane's lineage functionality is super useful when building out new solutions or needing to alert specific end users about changes coming to their data sources. Metplane has saved my team and me so much time and has helped us grow so much trust with end users.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Alerting at times has over alerted, when this was happening it was just a lot of noise and causes Metaplane users to potentially miss alerts. This is no longer the case.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane allows the data engineers and analytics engineers to see issues with tables (based on expected table growth or set limits) and investigate/fix/announce before any end users know there is an issue with warehouse data. Before Metaplane, end users would find issues with data and there was a trust gap unless a data analyst or analytics engineer pulled raw data and verified it. The added lineage allows us to know exactly what is impacted in our business intelligence tool and helps analytics engineers plan out next sets in data modeling.

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

I love how easy it was to set up and just basically point it at our BigQuery and get up and running very easily with our more important datasets and tables. I find it's so easy and takes the pain out of things that we are actually testing a lot lot more and their slack integration is so great it makes it easy to maintain or just disable alerts you might not care about anymore etc.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

There can be a little bit of a learning curve to the concepts and approaches and how to get the best out of it. Also ideally i'd love to have all my tests as code in some way so as to avoid lots of clicking around on the UI. So i'd love something like a terraform approach but for our metaplane account, which is something i know they are working on.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data observability on all our most important data assets and tables etc in BigQuery. And we are also sort of hacking metaplane to also do anomaly detection on our key business metrics by pointing it at a wide snapshot tables of all the latest (or 3 day rolling etc) most important kpi's in the business.
