I'm continually surprised by new features that seem to anticipate my next request with a substantial library of technology integrations. The product is easy to use and provides some impressive capability for tracking data lineage, training models of our test patterns, setting up out of box data tests, and ability to add customize tests and schedules. Fair pricing and amazing customer support when and where it's needed. **What do you dislike about Metaplane?** Not much. Minor: There could be some improvements in bulk operations but there has already been a commitment to make these features available for parts of the product. **What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?** This product helps get better insight to data elements of a system that may not be adequately monitored to date. It helps build confidence in data across many dimensions of quality and an ability to understand the impact of issues that it identifies in a way that is immediately interactive to users in a non-invasive way. Can easily set up new tests within minutes and provide rapid value to the business. ### 2. The tool has majorly helped us in data optimization and data adoptability. The support from the team has been immense. **What do you dislike about Metaplane?** There are some drawbacks to the tool in terms of data validation, as it has sometimes given a wrong name for some instances. The name given was in some in internal coding format. **What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?** The data transcription is way too fast thanks to the ML algorithm. It speed the process of understanding the size and usability of the existing datasets. This eventually helped with faster productivity. ### 3. I love that we receive alerts as soon as the data in a table gets outside the expected band of values-- whether that means that data is not as fresh as expected, a max or min value is too high or too low, the cardinality of a field has changed, or a table row count has shot up or down. With Metaplane, the data team is able to proactively respond to issues with data before business users notice them (instead of finding out about the issues when business users inform us). **What do you dislike about Metaplane?** There are very few things that I don't love about Metaplane. We do tend to get a lot of alerts if something happens over the weekend and it is not critical enough to respond to right away, so sometimes there is a lot of redundant alerting built up by Monday morning. However, the Metaplane team is constantly working to improve the tool and add new features, and I know this is something they are working to address! **What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?** The main problem that Metaplane solves is, as I described, letting the data team know about issues with data early. But the application has lots of other cool features, such as data lineage between data warehouse sources and the BI platform (so that when there is a problem you can see what dashboards are affected), alerts about changes to data warehouse schemas, and analytics showing how often tables and fields are queried. ### 4. We have improved our data quality and monitoring of all our database objects and jobs and generally enhanced the proactiveness of our analysts and data engineers in spotting problems. **What do you dislike about Metaplane?** Hard to tell now because metaplane has been constantly improving the software based on past feedback and now difficult to name something i dislike. **What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?** Custom Queries: Metaplane empowers the user to create custom queries in SQL for monitoring data models. I don't get false positives from Metaplane and it is a great summary of the overall 'health' of the data warehouse. **What do you dislike about Metaplane?** I would love to have a better way to handle users in metaplane. Currently everyone has the same set of permissions and can edit everything. **What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?** Metaplane is helping me make get ahead of potential data issues that don't involve the pipeline 'crashing' but look at the content of the tables. Overall, Metaplane is helping the analytics team be ahead of data issues that would otherwise be raised by stakeholders. It also helps tremendously when it comes to investigating data issues. ### 7. It's critical for observability into our data pipelines and alerts us quickly when there's an issue. Metaplane keeps rolling out new features and enhancing the platform often to offer a broader range of insights and not just operational observability. Metaplane team are really great to work with, support is excellent and any issues we have are resolved quickly. **What do you dislike about Metaplane?** Limited customizability of RBAC controls means we are limited to who we can roll the tool out to outside of the Data Engineering team. Some of the data quality tests would require Business SMEs to create them, and until flexible RBAC is introduced we can't begin giving end-user access. **What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?** Observability into the data warehouse for operational data pipelines, usage and quality. Metaplane monitors and notifies when loads are missed or possible data load issues have occurred. It offers insight into usage of data objects and lineage for reporting. Metaplane also provides data quality tests that can be applied to monitor data quality at the point of entry. ### 8. It also helps us know what impact planned changes in the data warehouse will have, and even helps us plan them in the first place through the combination of their lineage and usage reporting features. The Slack integration allows you to provide feedback to the alerting process and brings data issues front and center to the entire team for diagnosis and discussion. The integration lineave with our data warehouse, ETL process (dbt) and our bi tools (Metabase and Tableau) is a huge value add and makes for a more graceful experience when there are schema changes. With these two features we know 1) when there are data quality issues and 2) how/when schema changes will impact our end users. Together these save hours of time and help us gain credibility with our stakeholders. **What do you dislike about Metaplane?** User management is lacking. We hesitate to bring in a large number of users to Metaplane because once in there is no limit to a user's access level. Adding this feature would be a great addition and we would likely open up access to the Metaplane UI to a number of application teams to monitor their prod dbs. **What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?** The value prop is simple: 1) We know about data quality or ETL errors before our stakeholders. We know things will break in our ETL at some point or we will have logic errors, but being able to quickly resolve issues and alert downstream users means we retain credibility, pushes more people to our data resources, and ultimately drives more data decision-making across the org. 2) We save hours of time troubleshooting issues when they do come up. Whether it be a issue in the data pipeline or a breaking schema change introduced by a deployment Metaplane enables us to quickly identify and resolve things. ### 12.
