## Metabase Pricing FAQs

Generated using AI

Is Metabase free, or does it offer a free trial?

Yes. According to G2 data, Metabase offers a free plan with limited features. Users can upgrade to paid plans for additional capabilities. Visit the seller's official pricing page to compare plan options and features.

How much does Metabase cost in 2026?

According to G2 data, Metabase pricing in 2026 starts at $85.00 and can reach $15,000.00 depending on the selected plan. Pricing may vary based on billing terms or usage, so users should review the Metabase's official pricing page for the most current details.

Who is Metabase pricing best suited for?

Metabase's pricing is best suited for small businesses and startups seeking a cost-effective BI solution, with G2 reviewers from IT, financial services, and healthcare industries frequently praising the free Open Source tier for internal analytics. Mid-market companies across real estate, retail, and fintech gravitate toward Metabase's Starter and Pro tiers for managed cloud hosting and advanced access controls. G2 reviews from enterprise users in banking, logistics, and e-learning indicate Metabase works well for democratizing data access across large teams. Non-technical users across all segments benefit from Metabase's no-code query builder, while data analysts leverage its SQL capabilities for deeper exploration.

What are the key differences between the free and paid versions of Metabase?

Metabase's Open Source tier is free and self-hosted, offering unlimited charts, dashboards, 20+ database connections, and 15+ visualizations with community forum support. Metabase's paid plans begin at $85/month for the Starter tier, adding cloud hosting, automated upgrades, backups, and email support. Metabase's Pro tier at $500/month introduces SSO via SAML or JWT, row- and column-level data sandboxing, serialization, usage analytics, and interactive embedding. G2 reviewers frequently cite the free tier's limitations around advanced access controls and audit logs as key drivers for upgrading. Metabase's Enterprise tier at $15,000/year adds dedicated support, custom user pricing, and professional services.

Is Metabase considered good value for its pricing?

Metabase is widely regarded as strong value, particularly given its free Open Source tier. G2 reviewers consistently highlight the cost-to-performance ratio as exceptional, with multiple users calling it the best free BI tool available. One G2 reviewer noted the 'cost-to-performance ratio is unmatched.' Small businesses and startups especially praise the Open Source version for delivering enterprise-grade analytics at no cost. Some G2 users flag that Metabase's Enterprise pricing at $15,000/year feels steep, and one reviewer noted the paid license is 'costly.' Compared to Tableau and Power BI, which G2 reviewers reference directly, Metabase's pricing of paid tiers is considered more accessible while delivering comparable core functionality.

"Excellent open source BI tool which works across multiple DBs"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Metabase?

Metabase is easy to setup in your own local environment as well as cloud space. It has a very intuitive interface to setup queries, as well as a DIY interface for writing your own SQL queries. Additionally, the user based security feature really helps in segregating data between users. Data can be easily downloaded to csv, xlsx or pdf. Pulses (or email alerts) really help keeping up with changes in data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Metabase?

Being java based, metabase can be a bit resource hungry, especially when complex queries are run. As of this writing, it does not parse json fields. Also an auto generated database map would be helpful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Metabase:

Great BI tool. Quick and easy setup. Best for those who care more about getting data efficiently than those who want a high end product (like Qlikview) for their analysis. Do remember that if you host metabase on the cloud, there is a cost to keep the cloud server running! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?

Quering transactional data on our system without requiring developers to write code. Sharing data with operations team for them to do their own pivots and analysis. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Intuitive, Cost-Effective BI That Streamlines Dashboards and Reporting"

4/5

What do you like best about Metabase?

What I like most about Metabase is its intuitive UI and overall ease of use. It allows both technical and non-technical users to explore data, build dashboards, and generate insights with a minimal learning curve. For advanced users, the SQL editor is powerful and flexible, while the visual query builder makes analysis approachable for business teams.

Metabase also integrates smoothly with a wide range of databases and data sources, which makes it easier to centralize reporting and keep an eye on key business metrics. Creating dashboards, applying filters, and sharing results is straightforward, and these features work well for cross-functional collaboration.

From a performance and ROI standpoint, Metabase offers excellent value, especially when compared with more expensive BI tools. It delivers robust analytics capabilities at a cost-effective price point, helping organizations make data-driven decisions without a major investment. Onboarding is simple, and the active community support helps answer most implementation and day-to-day usage questions quickly.

Overall, Metabase has noticeably improved our reporting efficiency, reduced manual analysis work, and enabled faster access to actionable business insights. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Metabase?

While Metabase is a powerful and cost-effective BI tool, there are a few areas where it could improve. Performance can sometimes slow down when working with very large datasets, complex SQL queries, or heavily filtered dashboards. In addition, some advanced analytics, data modeling, and visualization customization features feel less robust than what you might find in enterprise BI platforms.

The dashboard layout and formatting controls can also seem somewhat limited when you’re trying to build highly customized reports. Integrations are generally solid, but more advanced workflow and automation needs may still require additional tools or custom implementation.

For new users, there can be a learning curve around troubleshooting query performance and understanding data relationships. Support for self-hosted deployments may also rely heavily on community resources. And while AI-powered capabilities are improving across the BI industry, Metabase’s native AI and intelligent analytics features currently feel more limited than those offered by some newer analytics platforms.

Even with these limitations, Metabase remains an excellent option for organizations looking for an easy-to-use, affordable, and scalable business intelligence solution. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?

Metabase helps solve the challenge of turning large volumes of raw data into actionable business insights. Before using Metabase, generating reports often required manual data extraction, complex SQL queries, and significant time from technical teams. With Metabase, stakeholders can access dashboards, monitor KPIs, and explore data independently, reducing reliance on data analysts for routine reporting.

The platform has improved visibility into key business metrics such as performance, operations, customer engagement, and revenue trends through real-time dashboards and automated reporting. Its easy-to-use interface allows teams across different functions to make data-driven decisions faster without requiring deep technical expertise.

From a business perspective, Metabase has increased reporting efficiency, reduced manual effort, improved decision-making speed, and enhanced collaboration by providing a single source of truth for data. It has also delivered strong ROI by offering robust analytics capabilities at a lower cost compared to many traditional BI solutions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
