## Metabase Reviews
 ### 1. Best free data analytics tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Igor R. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 10, 2021

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

The best part of Metabase is that it works well for people who never tried anything related to analytics, but also for people well versed in SQL. As a CTO, I was able to teach my marketing and sales team how to make their own queries, but I still can quickly write pure SQL queries when a more complex analysis is needed. Another great part is the embedding system. We were able to save a lot of development time by incorporating Metabase's graphs in our product, and the integration was very easy.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

Dark-mode would be a game-changer. They could also improve the x-rays feature, which rarely shows relevant analysis. I have never found a useful pre-made query there, so I just ignore this feature for the most part.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Metabase for two things: understanding how users behave in our product, as sort of a product analytics tool, and also as a third-party analytics provider, by embedding Metabase's graphs in our system to show users how their teams are performing. As an analytics tool, it has helped us quickly build a dashboard that makes the information accessible and transparent for stakeholders such as the sales and marketing team. As third-party analytics, it has saved us tons of development effort, since we didn't have to develop our graphs on the application's front-end.

 ### 2. Good but bit complicated

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Goods | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2022

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

It allows less-techy users to understand a Database in an easier way. It enables common business users to visualize data directly from the database and require less input from the IT teams for data access.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

Sometimes it feels like the software is in "beta" mode. That is only the UX/UI. More data visualization abilities would take it to the next level. Maybe even direct connections to PowerBI etc.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data access and availability. Understanding our databases and allowing access to citizen data scientiests in the company. Executive dashboards with minimal ETL and direct from source.

 ### 7. Analytics Done Right

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tatiana S. | Student Research Assistant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2021

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

Easy to use, free access and no limits regarding the number of tables/data models/dashboards. There is an opportunity to provide public access to the reports

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

Does nop applicable for users without SQL knowledge. To build more complex data models/charts, Excel is still the best tool

**Recommendations to others considering Metabase:**

Good for people who feel comfortable understanding and writing SQL queries

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Regularly upload the reports about operational activities, visualize results and build reporting dashboards for simply KPIs.

 ### 9. Speed when creating indicators and metrics

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Guide B. | Asesor de tecnología de la información, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2021

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

Ease of creating dashboards, metrics, and the different data sources that are available.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

Pass parameters or associate variables to a Metabase user to be able to use them in SQL queries. For example, users from state X only see the invoices from their state and not from all states.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Development, implementation, and training time. Ease of creating questions with different types of charts, ease of creating tables with dynamic filters.

 ### 10. Metabase - Less robust BI tool but Self-serve quick analytics for your analytics team

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2021

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

I like that Metabase is relatively quick and easy to use if the reporting layer is set up correctly to use the self-serve options available. If reporting layer isn't set up correctly with views that accomplish both fact and dimensional qualities, then it won't be easy to scale as you will be stuck using the custom SQL queries for every card you make.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

Filtering and dates can sometimes be confusing if you are doing custom SQL queries due to the custom queries' variable attributes. Visualization customization is also minimal; with only nine colors to choose from, it has that open-source feel. Very basic dashboards with snap to the grid that gives a very boxy appeal.

If you are wanting a more robust BI tool, this might not be for you.

**Recommendations to others considering Metabase:**

Metabase is great if you want a self-serve option for quick and dirty analytics across the board. However, it falls short when you are looking for more robust insights. Again, the self-serve option really only works if the reporting layer is set-up properly so that the need for custom sql queries becomes lower. Metabase is also very limited in visualization customization and designing dashboards.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To streamline across the analysts in making the self-serve option available so anyone can go in and analyze without writing large queries.

 ### 11. Equally loved by business analysts and developers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Will S. | Product Manager, MachineQ, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2021

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

Intuitive and highly functional solution. We've liked that non-technical users can ask 'questions' and filter data in an Excel-like way and that it's easy to write SQL.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

We have been using Metabase for about months now and we do not currently have any dislikes.

**Recommendations to others considering Metabase:**

Metabase was simple to implement (a few hours of time) and has provided us with immense business value. We continue to find more uses for it on a daily basis. If looking for BI tool that is quick to setup and approachable to users who are familiar with SQL and/or Excel - highly recommend Metabase.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Better understanding of product usage via dashboards, internal metrics sharing throughout organization, pre-empting any customer-facing issues

 ### 12. REVIEW Metabase

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

It has a great UX and is very straightforward to use, and advanced users can easily drop into SQL if needed.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

That not many people know about it, so whenever I bring it to a new company there is some resistance from folks that prefer other brands that invest more in marketing.

**Recommendations to others considering Metabase:**

Try it out, as the onboarding setup is a breeze. It even runs on Heroku, which is great for a small company/department.
Here we run it on a more elaborate setup with App Engine Flex, as over 100 people are using it.

Our team loves how easy it is for developers to build reports and share them with internal teams and automate daily/weekly reporting. Integrations with email and slack make Metabase even more powerful. 💪

Simple to use integrated BI

 ### 21. Easy-to-use Data Analytics at your Fingertips

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

Metabas was easy to set up and configure and even easier to utilize and build Questions and Queries as it pertained to immediate data needs.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

Not many negative things to say about the platform - it solved an immediate need for data analytics for our business users without any technical resources allocated to achieving the solution.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Business users, and users who have familiarity with SQL, can query company data to understand product performance, etc., in a much more accessible manner, without any or too much reliance on data/engineering teams' involvement.

 ### 22. Open source, super powerful data visualisation tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aleksei A. | Head Of Analytics, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2020

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

It is free. Functionality is very powerful, supports almost all data sources you would like to connect to it. Bugs are getting fixed quickly, a lot of updates with new functionality. Really love their answers section.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

Canvas for dashboards is limited. Can't blend data coming from different data sources. In case if data is stored in a different database you first need to pre-process it in some sort of DWH before getting connected to Metabase.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The "Answers" feature is super nice allowing users to create and store data queries "answering" some specific questions. You can also re-use saved answers in dashboards later.
Alert to Slack is also very helpful. Allowing you immediately (once an hour) to get an update once there is a potential problem with data.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2020

3. Especially useful for product managers and technical leader

2. Implementing newer versions is difficult :( It breaks a few of the existing functionalities.
3. The drag-drop experience of elements in dashboard view can be better.

**Recommendations to others considering Metabase:**

Its a very powerful tool. You only need to overcome the initial hassle of setting it up according to your organizational needs.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1. Tracking key product metrics
2. Slicing and dicing data to find useful product usage insights.

 ### 28. The DIY Free BI tool for teams.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arjun S. | Senior Business Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 21, 2020

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

Metabase is free to use BI tool which is easy to setup. It has a drag and drop interface as well as a SQl writer where queries can be written for advanced users. Access can be given across teams along with specific permissions. The tools is highly recommended for startups since it is free to use and self deployable.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

Although we are using a free to use self deployed version, There is less of data visualization thus it makes users to use separate tools to create visualization.

**Recommendations to others considering Metabase:**

Metabase is a free and easy to use self deployable BI software specially recommended for startup to give ease of data access to their team. It allows both tech and non-tech users to access data and report through a SQL editor and drag and drop interface. Recommended for startups looking to build a data driven culture.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metabase allows us to decentralize reporting by creating relevant questions and giving access to various teams based on their needs.
The key benefits is teams can see and download relevant data for reviews by their own without depending on engineering or business analysts.

 ### 29. convenient and easy collaboration between business and tech team

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aashirwad G. | support engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 20, 2021

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

Visualizations, automatic suggestions of best one. Easy DB selection

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

I do not dislike anything about metabase as of now.

We can simply save frequent data requirements from the business or marketing team and they can download or view the data as per their requirement.

 ### 30. Easily create dashboards for your teams

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 06, 2020

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

What I like best is that Metabase is a free yet powerful solution to build dashboards that the teams within a company can get insights from. And if you have a team that is curious about data and want to create their own dashboards and learn about the business asking their own questions you can allow them to do that in and simple way.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

The only thing I don't like is that sometimes it takes more time than I expected to show or refresh the data. It might be because of the amount of data we have but this is something that bothers me.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed something to empower the teams with data and Metabase helped us with that. The main benefit for the company was that all teams could easily access information about the business without needing to ask the data team all the time.

 ### 31. Powerful Usability but LOW computing power

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

It is super easy to share with team members both on queries and also findings in real-time. It came super handy to check live stats with the whole organization and empower non-data folks. It also offers cool visualizations options to show results, which can serve as a nice reporting function. The Dashboard organization functionality is also helpful to keep things organized.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

The LOW computing power. For large/complicated queries, sometimes it will never come back. The most annoying part is that the message on screen is 'Doing Science', while that screen could run in HOURS and then popped up an error message. This part is a huge limitation to its usage.
Also, the query writing/drafting isn't good - it can't fold subquery or highlight indexing like other tools.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

BI reporting, Data Enablement.
Team collaborations, Visualizations

 ### 32. great data visualization tools

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2019

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

* easy to visualize data and view in different formats (ie. graphs, pie charts, tables, etc.)
* heavily customizable
* good UI, easy to navigate
* affordable/cheaper than salesforce, SAP Tableau, etc.
* easy one step log-in (using work gmail account)

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

* dashboard suggestions are not helpful
* need to have certain graphics/analytics bookmarked individually instead of customizing by user interest
* tutorial for non-data personnel would be helpful

**Recommendations to others considering Metabase:**

it's a great, bare-bones, affordable tool. gives you what you need if it's just looking at company metrics, but you need to be able to ask the right questions/define the issue. our data analyst does a lot to make the information easily digestible across the company - had heaps of info in the past and it wasn't that well organized. visualization helps a lot across the organization.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

* tracking company key metrics and growth
* visual information
* able to look at real time statistics/#s for WoW, MoM
* tracking annualized projections
* variety of ways to analyze/view data

 ### 33. Not a fan of the UX

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

I like that it's more secure for my company and deployable from the cloud.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

It's not intuitive at all, there's not a simple button where you can just run a query it takes multiple clicks. The output is definitely not as nice as Navicat, even figuring out how to download the csv file isn't intuitive. I also don't like that the process to save/edit queries is so tedious. I also really really dislike that to reference the different tables in our database is in a whole different iteration. In our Navicat tool queries/tables were in different tabs so it was easy to cross-reference the data.

**Recommendations to others considering Metabase:**

I guess if you're not used to another product it's fine, but I prefer our old tool much more.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data security for our database.

 ### 34. Easy Enough

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David F. | Customer Experience Lead, Retail, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 19, 2019

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

It's neat how many different reports you can run if you know the proper questions to ask the software.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

For a standard user, it can be a little difficult to know how to properly use Metabase.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it to run inventory projections, current inventory issues, and projected numbers for other parts of the business.

 ### 35. Falls short, pretty frustrating

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 28, 2019

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

The queries are all online, so I can access them from anywhere without having to have a specific software on my computer. I can run queries from basically anywhere as long as I have my log-in info. I also like the auto-fill feature when typing queries since our data is quite large and we have a LOT of tables and columns.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

A lot of things. The fact that it's in the browser means I can't easily switch between queries like I could in a desktop program. It's also kind of pain to make edits and save changes, and because it's in the browser I don't have all the keyboard shortcuts I'd have with a desktop program. What's more, you're unable to have more than one table in one query, so I had to split all of my queries up and now I have to switch between them frequently, meaning I generally have a dozen Metabase tabs open. We were also hoping that having everything online would mean that we could share queries easily between team members, but that also doesn't seem to be the case.

**Recommendations to others considering Metabase:**

Save all your queries remotely so they're easy to access. I also recommend making a bookmark for each query you use frequently since trying to access them back and forth on the platform is annoying. Also CTRL-ENTER replaces CRTL-R as run query.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SQL queries and data mining. We have access to all of our tables in one place, and we're able to run queries in an online setting.

 ### 36. METABASE learns to understand your data!

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jesús A. | Podcaster, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

To be able to ask questions to the system about the company's data, and that can simply organize, filter and learn without the strict need to do it through a line of SQL. You can also go from the data, to graphs and tables that present the data in an easy way with just a few clicks.
You can get a "real time" view of what the company is learning from your data, this helps people in the company, its users, find an answer, start their own exploration or improve existing questions.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

So far it only offers three open source software (servers) to deploy and run the data within its system: Docker, in Amazon AWS, Heroku or the simplest way through java -jar metabase.jar, but if there is no experience in the use of the latter to configure the emptying of data can be frustrating for the user, could be extended to other existing ones.
During the data upload you can experience faults or brief system crashes that are external to Metabase, however, they make it difficult to transfer the data.

**Recommendations to others considering Metabase:**

The dashboards of the platform are very simple to use, they are constantly improving. A great advantage is that they are open source and there is a significant saving when evaluating not having to buy a license or renew it at a high price. Metabase is also available in Spanish and Portuguese, that gives an enormous advantage for companies regardless of their size in Latin America to incorporate their use and management.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All the data related to sales, requests and services offered weekly are evaluated in this platform given the growing inflation in my country (Venezuela) to allow visualizing the evolution of the company's income and expenses in a more fluid and dynamic way. The benefits that it has brought the power to review this data weekly has allowed to make decisions on the monetary investment of the weekly orders and the adjustment of the prices of the products offered to our clients.

 ### 37. Great to make queues and workflows

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2019

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

Our CRM is custom built so doesn't have all the formatting we would like. Metabase helps create and manage lists for our sales team.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

Updates to stats are delayed and even slow to load.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows us an external tool for easier outreach and tracking

 ### 38. Excellent open source BI tool which works across multiple DBs

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jaideep T. | Senior Vice President and Head of Product & Technology, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2018

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

Metabase is easy to setup in your own local environment as well as cloud space. It has a very intuitive interface to setup queries, as well as a DIY interface for writing your own SQL queries. Additionally, the user based security feature really helps in segregating data between users. Data can be easily downloaded to csv, xlsx or pdf. Pulses (or email alerts) really help keeping up with changes in data.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

Being java based, metabase can be a bit resource hungry, especially when complex queries are run. As of this writing, it does not parse json fields. Also an auto generated database map would be helpful.

**Recommendations to others considering Metabase:**

Great BI tool. Quick and easy setup. Best for those who care more about getting data efficiently than those who want a high end product (like Qlikview) for their analysis. Do remember that if you host metabase on the cloud, there is a cost to keep the cloud server running!

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quering transactional data on our system without requiring developers to write code. Sharing data with operations team for them to do their own pivots and analysis.

 ### 39. Metabase is great!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

Metabase is such a cool online tool for businesses and it really allows businesses to grow. It requires you to learn and code, but once you know what you are looking forward, the data possibilities are endless. I think that overall, Metabase is a great service and we use it at a start-up company and it really has changed the way we report data.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

I think because there is not a lot of storage or abilities to house the data, sometimes the links break and the data is "N/A" - Aside from that, which might be our companies error as we are using Metabase constantly.

**Recommendations to others considering Metabase:**

Just keep pushing forward.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Overall, a new way to present data and to bring data to the forefront that would not be possible with other services.

 ### 40. Metabase expirience

Its a multitasking tool that can be setup faster and allows to get multi data of diferent metrics

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

Sometimes it tents to change the url and it gets an error

**Recommendations to others considering Metabase:**

Good tool for use of data and tracking the metrics of the day

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The metrics for activations creations and others

 ### 41. Open-source advantage with performance lags

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rudraksh S. | Data scientist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2019

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

For less amount of data, it works superb, there is no lag, nothing. It's UI is intuitive and performance is also pretty good.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

For large amount of data, it gets stuck. Data import from other softwares is a real pain. Queries take forever to run if the backend data is huge!

**Recommendations to others considering Metabase:**

Only consider this software if your data is not huge, otherwise not recommended!

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tracking the most important product-metrics via Metabase dashboards. There were quite a lot of benefits until the point our data was less and there were less people interacting with Metabase.

 ### 42. My metabase experience

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Transportation/Trucking/Railroad | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 26, 2019

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

i get accurate data from all my customers

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

sometimes needs too much time, so is not that fast

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

all my customers are in order so I can reach them real quick

 ### 43. Functionally sufficient

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 07, 2019

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

Non-devs in our company are able to view reports to understand usage data of our software.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

You can't build questions that pull from multiple sources.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We need a way for the rest of our company to answer questions they have about customer usage and health without it taking dev time away from our sprints. They have that visibility now but it still takes dev time to write the questions in metabase.

 ### 44. Easy to use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Warehousing | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 21, 2019

**What do you like best about Metabase?**

I like that you have the options to set up simple filters as well as writing your own query.

**What do you dislike about Metabase?**

I wish that the error messaging was more specific. It would be nice to highlight the portion of your SQL is creating the issue so that you could quickly pinpoint the problem instead of having to hunt for the exact character position specified.

**Recommendations to others considering Metabase:**

Learn SQL.

**What problems is Metabase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helps with ad-hoc reporting and keeping track of daily, weekly, monthly metrics.

 ### 45. Great resource for our back end

Use it to maintain data throughout the company.
