## About Mermaid
Mermaid is a diagramming tool built on Mermaid.js, the open-source diagramming library. Diagrams are defined as text in Mermaid syntax, and the rendering engine determines the layout. When a process changes, updating the diagram is a text edit rather than a rebuild — the practical difference from drag-and-drop editors, where repositioning nodes is part of every revision. There are several ways to create a diagram: users can write Mermaid syntax directly, begin from a template, or describe a process in plain language and let Mermaid AI generate the diagram along with its supporting documentation. Every route produces the same text-based diagram, so one that began as an AI generation or a template is edited, versioned, and updated exactly like one written by hand. The editor supports the full range of Mermaid diagram types, including flowcharts, sequence diagrams, class diagrams, entity relationship diagrams, state diagrams, Gantt charts, user journey maps, mindmaps, and timelines. Teams use it for software architecture diagrams, database schemas, API request flows, onboarding and process documentation, and project timelines, where the same syntax covers both quick sketches and diagrams that need to stay accurate over time. Comments, notifications, and real-time collaborative editing keep a team working in a single source file rather than exchanging screenshots. Because diagrams are stored as text, they can be version-controlled alongside code, reviewed in the same workflow as any other file, and kept in sync as the systems they document evolve. Finished diagrams export to standard formats such as PNG and SVG for use elsewhere. Integrations with PowerPoint, Word, Confluence, VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, ChatGPT, and Claude place diagrams in the tools where the work already happens.

## Mermaid Reviews
  ### 1. Effortless Diagramming for Technical Teams with Mermaid Charts

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kamal R. | Business Analyst, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2025

**What do you like best about Mermaid?**

I like Mermaid Charts best for their simplicity and flexibility in creating diagrams using plain text. You can write a few lines of code to generate flowcharts, sequence diagrams, Gantt charts, or mind maps, which makes them easy to version-control and integrate into documentation. They’re lightweight, easy to update, and ideal for technical teams who want to embed diagrams directly in Markdown, wikis, or code repositories without using heavy graphic tools.

**What do you dislike about Mermaid?**

Complex diagrams can become hard to read or manage in plain-text format. Custom styling and advanced formatting options are limited compared to graphic design tools. Rendering performance may slow down with very large diagrams, and troubleshooting syntax errors can be tricky for beginners. Additionally, real-time collaboration features are minimal unless integrated with another platform.

**What problems is Mermaid solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mermaid Charts solve the problem of creating and maintaining diagrams in a text-based, code-friendly way. Instead of manually designing flowcharts, sequence diagrams, or Gantt charts, you can generate them directly from plain text or Markdown. This benefits me by saving time, making diagrams easy to update, keeping documentation version-controlled, and allowing seamless integration with code repositories or wikis. It ensures diagrams stay consistent, editable, and easy to share across teams.

  ### 2. Easy and fast

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lakshay J. | Senior Engineer - Product Engineering, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Mermaid?**

You can just write and draw a chart. makes implementation of flowsharts faster... earlier I used to use draw.io which was cumbersome, took time and had to match each arrow with each block.... editing and manking changes in comples flowcharts was time consuming.

**What do you dislike about Mermaid?**

the debugger doesn't work well. even after trying multiple times I was not able to make it work well.

**What problems is Mermaid solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1. faster implementation of flowcharts
2. faster integration of charts with miro and wiki
3. much easy to share them then sharing manual images
