"Solid product backed by great customer service"

What do you like best?

We use Melissa data tools integrated with Salesforce to support a semi-automated process. The Listware tools is actually quite lightweight and offers unexpected customization (with a very little but of Salesforce Visual Force understanding). Our use case includes custom objects and an unusual data entry pattern. The folks at Melissa Data have been very responsive at helping us achieve our desired results.

What do you dislike?

Because of the managed package we use, we end up storing addresses multiple times. Very inefficient. I wish there was a way for me to set a flag on records I wish to exclude from the batch process. Additionally, we've had to turn off "Move" processing because it incorrectly identifies new addresses.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Melissa Data's Listware tool has allowed us to significantly reduce the number of duplicate records because our matching algorithm has better data to work from.

The tool has also helped reduce costs in direct mail marketing efforts.

"Excellent Data, Excellent Value"

What do you like best?

The amount of information I am able to get compared to other data providers at a very reasonable price

What do you dislike?

Tax information for current year is not updated as often as I would like

When considering other options, you need to take into account the breadth of data included in the base price. Other solutions may offer similar data, but in an ala carte fashion that ends up costing you more

We buy single family homes for investors and rely on Melissa Data for our underwriting automation. The data is critical to making good buying decisions. In today's market, you need to be quick to submit offers to take advantage of hot markets

"Invaluable Tool for USPS Address Normalization"

What do you like best?

Melissa Data provides an easy and seamless experience to validate address information to ensure accuracy.

What do you dislike?

While Melissa Data is a great service overall, there are certain types of addresses that regularly fail verification. In my experience this occurs when there isn't a title such as "Avenue, "Street" etc. appended to the name. El Camino Real in California is an example.

We run an in-store shopping program in which we rely on merchants to provide their store lists. These lists are notoriously messy and have many locations without valid street addresses. Because we are mapping stores to display to consumers, it is imperative we have clean USPS data. Their lat long information is also key.

"Lead Senior Developer"

What do you like best?

Very straight forward and easy to use API for pulling data. Very timely response to queries about pricing and service requirements. Data return has provided the validation we require for insuring appropriate shipping address for our customers.

What do you dislike?

Not all addresses are available if they fall outside normal parameters (rural, new construction, etc.). Sometimes the API return empty due to communication issues.

I have found the company to be very easy to work with, providing the required data in a timely and cost effective manner.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Address validation, household demographics, user demographics. Melissa data has help to insure that we are shipping to valid addresses, reducing charge back costs from our shipping partners.

"Good data for a great price! "

What do you like best?

I like the price, and I really like my account manager Jason. He's always available even though I'm not a big ticket customer.

What do you dislike?

I wish they had actual API usage dashboards for my particular product. Sometimes the data is a bit old as well but the majority of the time it works for our needs.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I'm providing real estate investors with residential property data so they can quickly and efficiently analyze potential properties.

"Gets the job done"

What do you like best?

Software: We use the web service quarterly for NCOA and the SSIS on-premise components.

The on-premise gives us:

1. More flexibility for creating custom matching rules

2. Our version of the "golden record" criteria

3. Control over how the data is processed.

4. Ease of updating the monthly address data by copy/paste the data file onto server in the appropriate directory without need for updating the SSIS package or re-deploy.

Support: The support team is responsive when an issue is found.

What do you dislike?

1. The "Phone Home" usage process. It requires an open port to allow a text file to traverse back and forth. We are very skittish about opening a port to allow 3rd party files in or out of our systems.

2. The Software sometimes does not pick up the License renewal key in the designated server environment variable. Sometimes we need to update the configuration text file on the server to ensure the software picks it up.

3. Inability to prevent excess SSIS messages on unused output paths

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Ensure there is a person with SSIS experience with good analytical skills.

The best learning of the software comes from trial and error.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Customer Master: We use the Melissa Data Contact Verify for cleansing customer profile and address data and the MatchUp component to see if an incoming customers matches with existing households.

"The fastest, easiest and most up-to-date Address Verfication Solution"

What do you like best?

We loved the simple and straight-forward integration with our existing website order flow. We especially appreciate the up to date address information (CASS certified) and the real time access to that data. In additional to the rich web services restful API offerings we also found great value in their Excel plugin for one-time use projects. I have used Melissa DATA services now for nearly a decade and have never experienced any downtime issues. What a wonderful professional partner!

What do you dislike?

There is nothing to dislike for the features we have implemented. Albeit we certainly have not installed all the various solutions, services and integrations that are offered by Melissa DATA but of the integrations we have implemented their are NO dislikes or concerns. We currently use many of the advanced features of the Address Object on-premise API.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

In my experience Melissa DATA has done a fantastic job in advancing their products and services. We have been move then pleased by their performance and pricing for their products.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The advanced features of the Address Object API allows us to greatly reduce our "undeliverable" loses and improve our next-day delivery customer experience. We also use the advanced (suggested address standardization) features to consolidate customer information which gives us a more holistic and accurate picture of that customer; we can de-dupe our customer data now. Additionally, we benefit from easier and more accurate fraud detection among hundreds of thousands of transactions.

"I integrated Melissa Data libraries, including the address object and matchup object"

What do you like best?

They produce a solid set of products for a reasonable price. In addition, great documentation and customer service are included. We do not use a GUI, instead integrating their software into batch and online C programs running in a Unix environment. Performance is good, bugs are few, and updates are timely.

What do you dislike?

There is a very small customer base using AIX, which sometimes leaves me feeling like a field tester.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

They have a variety of products with robust functionality, and they support a wide variety of platforms. Sample licenses are available for internal trials. Try it out!

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

There are two business problems: the need to make address fields uniform and searchable where possible, and the need to identify potential duplicates for automated disposition (or failing that, for detailed analysis). We use the address object to standardize addresses in the USA and Canada, and we use the matchup object to perform duplicate identification to help us perform custom data cleansing.

"Verified address for shipping"

What do you like best?

I like how the addresses (US address and non-US address) are getting verified correctly, This is critical with our business.

What do you dislike?

Nothing so far. We are using Melissa Data for address verification and it is doing that effectively.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are in the warehousing and fulfillment business. So we do a lot of shipping to a lot of customers. It is very important that we ship to the correct address. And Melissa Data is helping us do that. It is critical that we verify the address that are input by our clients as sometimes they do get typographical error.

"MatchUp, GenderWise, RightFielder have been a huge help"

What do you like best?

The software is easy to learn and extremely powerful. It has improved our processing by making it more complex and faster.

What do you dislike?

Some features are easy to customize but some are not. For example, just ran into a challenge with a few titles not being recognized (specifically Rabbi and Cantor) but was able to create a work around in our database.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are often tasked with merging many contact lists from a variety of formats. Due to human involvement there are often slight differences so we needed a package of programs that could standardize all the information and then efficiently compare records. One of our project had over 4 million records going in and several thousand unique ones at the end. Developing this process on our own would have been cost prohibitive.

"Fast, reliable and consistent"

What do you like best?

Documentation is very good. Account manager is very quick in responding any question. Any customization is done fast. We use web services in cloud and the response time for these services is very fast. They have other products in data quality domain that were very impressive but we didnt have need/wish for it

What do you dislike?

There is nothing to dislike about Melissadata. Everything that we use is working as expected so no complains there. Data that we use is updated monthly, so may be frequency can be increased.

We are doing mostly address standardization and validation in real-time and batch. Prime benefit we received was cost effective. Another advantage is no need to install any software on premise. There is no annual maintenance to be done.

"Melissa Data Provides Data Quality for SSIS"

What do you like best?

The Melissa Data technology works seamlessly with SQL Server Integration Services, and provides another way for my clients to achieve highest data quality information. I have been able to answer questions about the product, including how it might integrate into SQL Server 2016 (latest, and most recommended as of September 2016). The technology can support high volume data matching, and many report it is helpful for especially small to medium sized business information.

What do you dislike?

Nothing to dislike: though if people are not satisfied with any aspect of the product or service, they can contact Melissa Data to have an employee provide technical support or additional training on how to use the technology.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Talk with their support team if you have questions: their technology is not super-exotic, but certainly innovative and different from comparative solutions

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I was approached by a product distribution manufacturer who had been looking at their technology: they knew I was knowledgeable about the product, and afterwards I was able to both answer their technical questions and refer them directly to Melissa Data for additional product support. Their company has many B2B relationships with especially small to medium sized businesses.

"Product helped us in improving our Customer Reach"

What do you like best?

Very straightforward installation & Configuration steps. We configured Personator & Match process and part of our daily SSIS ETL load process.

Very Easy to use.

Procured missing customer information . We simply passed Basic details of out Customers like Name, Address, Phone Number and Personator application was able to append Emails, New Addresse if moved, Phone number, Geocode. Personator also standardizes existing customer information

Match process provided reliable single view of data. we used it for de-duplication, matching & mastering Customer records.

What do you dislike?

Having Customer Primary and Secondary address will help us a lot. as some Customers tend to use secondary addresses for Business communication.

Email Address Soft Ping should be made real time with in Personator.

Over all there is a room for improvement in Customer Address Appends and Email Appends.

Useful product. Make sure Product fits your organizational needs by performing Test loads, review the results before proceeding further.

"Pretty good coverage, weird data holes, horrible customer service"

What do you like best?

MD has lots of different API options for getting just the coverage you need. And they manage to do a pretty good job of pulling data from a lot of different sources.

What do you dislike?

* Customer service is maybe worse than Comcast. It took me a month initially to figure out how to give them money - the sales rep just wouldn't call me back, no matter what I tried.

* They've got weird data holes. Sometimes one of their services will recognize an address and return an address key - while another one won't recognize that address key at all. In addition, about 5-10% of the time, the address will be a real, real-world address, and MD won't recognize it.

* Their Property service won't recognize addresses - only address keys. Which means that you have to do a separate lookup on a different service to get the address key, and only then do a lookup on their Property service. That's kinda nutty - it makes it more complicated to pick the right mix of services you need, and also makes it slower to do your lookups, since you have to do two of them.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Pay close attention to which services you need. The functionality of their services is confusing, and their naming orders of magnitude more so.

We need good, reliable data on properties for which we are offering homeowners' quotes.

"Great customer service and Personator product."

What do you like best?

Provides a robust variety of services, paired with a great wiki documentation site that details all of their products/services. Sales/support are also very helpful. The service we implemented integrates sales system to provide clean data at the entry point - it was very easy to roll out and with the thorough documentation we had minimal issues configuring our network to permit the appropriate data through.

What do you dislike?

If anything, it's best to know what you need and contact them rather than searching through the long list of services / products which can be overwhelming.

What do you like best?

Being able to upload my own csv and get immediate update to my data or within 1-2 business days.

What do you dislike?

Nothing. I have used their service at several diffeent companies and always get reliable data

"Great Resource for Cleaning and Data Verification"

What do you like best?

It didn't take our team long to start implementing the APIs in to our proprietary system. On average we spent about one week to get each API integrated. Most of the time was spent on use having to modify how we processed the data and not with the difficulty doing so.

What do you dislike?

After you use one you are going to want another. They have so many different sets of data to help with addresses, phone numbers, and dupe data.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Grab at least one and try it out. You can even call and request a free trial. You will quickly see how you can save time and money with having more accurate data to work with.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

On a prior project I implemented several of APIs you can get at MellissaData. We used the Clean Address on accounts that where returned unable to find. We used the ZIP Usa against any user inpput data to avoid issues with bad data at the source. The phone append was a great resource for when an contact changed phones and we where unable to contact them it would parse our database and update it with the last known number. We worked with finance so having a bankruptcy would disqualify you from a loan and melissa data has a bankruptcy list that caught some clients that it didn't show on a credit report. We are looking to start implementing deduping features in to our force.com platform in SalesForce.com to lower our cost form other sources such as data.com.

"Melissa Data has been great"

What do you like best?

The Api is easy to work with and the account rep folks are very response especially Riff. I've never had my service shut down even when we are over our allotted validations. Instead the team works with us to ensure constant availability. I also like that they frequently update us with security information of their web services and give us adequate time to prepare our updates.

What do you dislike?

I haven't really had any problems or issues with the product. In all cases when I've recommended them to my clients, Melissa Data has been very responsive.

"Always on point"

What do you like best?

Because they are always updating their data. We never have to worry that the info we are working with is correct.

"Pretty great address standardization service"

What do you like best?

Predictable results. Generally accurate, I've found very few cases of inaccurate addresses. I like being able to track city name, street name, and zip code changes too, because old and new addresses have the same MAK (melissa address key). I also like knowing if an address is invalid, or missing a unit number, etc.

What do you dislike?

It would be great to have more info, like the address's subdivision, or other accessory info about an address.

Our business is standardizing addresses from user input. Users can type an address lots of different ways, but we need to make sure they're all the same.

"When address validation truly matters Melissa data is an excellent choice"

What do you like best?

The API was easy for my developers to integrate into the applications we use. The documentation was excellent and the customer support equivalent. Data integrity is also another key component and makes verifying addresses simple and accurate.

What do you dislike?

I can not say I really had any negative experiences with Melissa but being a conservative consumer I could always appreciate a lower price point. I think I would use more often if there were less of an expense associated with these types of services.

We solve problems with a range of things like simple typos, address legitimacy, and postal correctness. The address validation services of Melissa help to make sure we get the most amount of approvals on our applications for wireless phone subsidies,

"The DQS component for SSIS is very easy to install and configure."

What do you like best?

The DQS component for SSIS is very easy to install and configure. It integrates well MS Visual Studio Data Tools. The best thing we liked about MD was that it generates a unique key for every address. This helps in designing your database using the unique key as a reference to each address that is processed/cleansed by MD. The other good thing is that the software is very reliable and it generates sensible error codes when it corrects/alters a wrong address. On top of all this there excellent customer support.

What do you dislike?

We ran into few issues where we saw duplicate unique keys being generated but we were able to resolve this issue with the help of customer support. Other than that no major issues or dislikes.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

In my experience MD has done a good job in implementing all the features you would like to see in this product line. We are very please with the performance and pricing.

We use Melissa Data to clean or correct addresses in our Property database. This task has to be done as part of our ETL process in SSIS package. And the DQS component for SSIS helps us do exactly what we want.

What do you like best?

Reputable Data Servicing Company

Provides all data services we are looking for and more

Provides SSIS Integration Plugin at no additional cost -

- SSIS PLugin make the processing flexible and transparent. This helps our Data Services team to manage cleanup process in house and in schedule that suits the best.

What do you dislike?

We are currently in implementation phase. So far the experience has been great. We went through lengthy vendor interviewing process and decided to proceed with Melissa Data for reasons stated above.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

- our customer satisfaction rate shoud increase by being able to target accurately via validated or appended customer data

- we are looking to capture currently missed business revenue by being able to target audience by validated data or missing of it

- domain level and email validation will help us protect our email deliverability, IP sender reputation

- we will be able to better understand our customer data and therefore make informed business decisions

- we will be able to deploy specific marketing initiatives which we were not able to do previously with unvalidated and missing data

"Using Melissa Data at work"

What do you like best?

One of the good things about Melissa Data is how easy it was to integrate into our solutions. We use it for address validation in the mortgage and health care industries.

What do you dislike?

There are monthly updates, some are required and some are not. I wish the way that they pushed the updates was more concise - in my experience it is a zipped file, a web service may be better.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

I actually don't know Melissa Data's competitors, but they are pretty hassle free and may be hard to beat.

"Meldata cleaning up"

What do you like best?

We use Meldata to validate our customers' addresses, it's nice that we can cleanse a lot or just a few without impacting performance

What do you like best?

The web service functionality. We call these from our ERP platform in order to validate all addresses

What do you dislike?

Nothing really. The documentation was kind of difficult to find but other than that it was fairly easy to implement

I would like to see them keep up with current technologies with their APIs. They seem to be doing a decent job so far

"Marketing Manager"

What do you like best?

Melissa Data easily integrates into both our system and our vendor's systems. They offer a variety of cleansing solutions. Setting up our contract has been easy.

What do you dislike?

The Melissa Data tool is doing exactly what I need. I would say that the error codes don't match to anything logical so I have to look them up form time to time, but that isn't a huge issue.

We are cleansing our data so that we do not mail invalid records. We've saved hundreds of thousands of dollars a year and decreased cost per acquisition.

"Use the street validation app with the web interface typing a minimum of four characters."

What do you like best?

Consistant spelling of address for entering service calls

What do you dislike?

Some of the Loops and US Highways use different spelling or abreviations based on the City. Sometimes directions are a rev oh ated other times they are spelled out.

"Excellent customer service"

What do you like best?

Sure, Melissa Data keeps your lists and addresses clean. But what I like is the customer service, they always respond quickly, thoroughly, and with a friendly attitude. I've never waited long for a response, and meetings get scheduled for same day. I'm very glad we switched to Melissa Data.

What do you dislike?

Nothing negative to report yet, it's all been good.

What do you like best?

The API. We were able to integrate address validation to meet the ICANN requirement.

What do you dislike?

Performance is too slow for real time queries. We had to change to batch mode.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Real time queries take up to six seconds so it doesn't make for a great end user experience. If you have to validate an address, try to create your workflow so that you can run address validation in batch mode.

What do you like best?

Ease of integration. Especially easy to convert from on-site installation to Web Services.

Also like the Web Services because we don't have to wait for a new DVD to get updated data.

What do you dislike?

Occasionally there is a new development that doesn't have its address available to MelissaData.

Haven't seen this a ton of times and not sure what can be done by MelissaData to get the address available sooner.

I have never been overly thrilled with the Support we get when we need it and our most recent request for support resulted in disappointment both in how long it took to hear back and that we had to reach out twice before reaching someone. It was over the course of nearly 24 hours so it wasn't a case of us being impatient.

"A Must Have for Marketing Technology "

What do you like best?

The ease of use for the various components and their integration within our existing infrastructure.

What do you dislike?

We have noticed some variances between on-premise results versus cloud based results for the Contact Verify and Personator components as well as the Smart Mover component.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

CASS, NCOA, Email Appends, Phone Appends, Reverse Email Append, Reverse Phone Appends and Identity Resolution. Having a single source for all of these has helped to streamline our business tremendously.

What do you like best?

the amount of data we are able to get back from Melissa Data and the price is great

There was some miscommunication when we first started as to what was part of what we were paying for and what was part of a free trial they started at the same time

"Melissa Data has Worked Well for Our Application"

What do you like best?

Easy to use. Good phonetic matching. 911 Address conversion(LACS). RBDI indicator is a big help in identifying business addresses.

What do you dislike?

Nothing so far use wise. Annual renewal cost is a little high.

Definitely delivers good address correction software. May be price competitive - haven't compared what's on market lately.

Standardizing/Correcting mailing addresses. RBDI indicator helps us ask for a residential address (that we need to have on file) when a business address only is given.

That the data is local and we can do quick address lookups.

What do you dislike?

That some address don't verify. I realize this is mostly because USPS data isn't accurate

We protected accounts via their DVP (12 digit number) for a franchise so another franchise know the address is already being worked/protected.

What do you like best?

We have never had a moment of trouble understanding what the product does and how to use it.

What do you dislike?

Well we' rather have the premium version but cannot justify the expense.

We use MatchUP daily with our client databases. WE use it to standardize addresses for a merge/purge projects, to determine which addresses will not DPV and should be removed from a direct mail file, etc.

The ability to stay up-to-date with our customer's address as this saves in returned mail and costs.

The incorrect address changes we receive, especially those related to a family member that moves not the primary household member. The lack of an ability to provide those errors as feedback to prevent them in the future

Gaps and inaccuracies in some of the data. Newer homes are not in the data. Newer more updates data would be helpful.

"Good tool for small datasets that are U.S. and Canada based"

What do you like best?

We used Melissa DATA as a starting point for Address Standardization. We integrated this using their API so we can correct our data on a regular basis. The results were then used for deduplication of records across thousands of records. It's good for North American based data and does a decent job at standardizing addresses in this locale.

What do you dislike?

Doesn't work well with International addresses. We basically resorted to sticking with the addresses that were entered and did manual verification through other online services.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

I would only recommend this solution if you're on a budget and have primarily U.S. and Canada based data. If you do have the budget, then I would recommend other robust services like Equifax or D&B that will add industry classifications and other pertinent company information.
