They've consistently provided excellent support and have been quick to respond to our needs. **What do you dislike about Megaport?** Really hard to think of a negative. Often I find that their offerings identify flaws in data centre relationships. E.g. Megaport offer their ports for as short as 1 month but cross connects at most data-centres carry a 12 month term. **What problems is Megaport solving and how is that benefiting you?** Megaport connects us to any of the big cloud service providers in all of our offices globally so we may consume short term compute when we don't have sufficient resources on premise. We've come to depend on this in some of our larger sites as it allows us to ebb and flow with client demand. ### 2. Nice Company. We can create a link for 30 days to satisfy some immediate data transfer need, then tear down that link when ready. Think your current internet service is spotty or having issues? Provision an internet connection through Megaport to use while the other one gets fixed. Your management thinks 1gb express route to Azure is good enough then chokes the link? Scale up via Megaport. Megaport offers both onpremise connections where you do your own routing on your physical devices and cloud based routers network virtual appliances. Also you can use megaport between cloud providers. The fact you can provision with no term limits is game changing. **What do you dislike about Megaport?** Megaport is only available in some locations. To be more precise, Megaport services are available in major data centers throughout the world. They are not available in small offices or office buildings. Thus, you need to be migrated to off campus data centers to take maximum advantage of Megaport. **Recommendations to others considering Megaport:** If you have your main services located in a major data center, absolutely take a look at Megaport and start enjoying the flexibility in both deployment and costs. Being able to provision a new circuit in literally a few minutes using a friendly portal is a game changer. **What problems is Megaport solving and how is that benefiting you?** Ever changing business requirements and management requests can be tough to deal with when you have onpremise, cloud, and wan environments. Needing to provision express routes to Azure, fast connects to Oracle, or cross connects to business partners can be challenging simply because of the timelines involved from providers. Waiting 60 days for provisioning, waiting for approvals from management for pricing, and waiting for a decision on term limits is a lot of waiting! And that doesn't take into account working with local support to get the link physically connected. Megaport allows you to have a single connection that you can divvy up into multiple virtual circuits. Get a 10gb circuit, and divvy it up into a 2gig fast Connect, a 2 gig Express Route, and a 2 gig Internet Circuit! Scale up and down on demand. One such area is contracts. For a company that promotes automation, their contracts tie to specific network resource ID's that are generated at resource creation. Some activities, require regeneration of a resource, and that would trigger an early-termination fee, even though the customer is still trying to spend the money with Megaport. Instead, make the contracts based on a monetary value versus specific resources. This gives a lot more flexibility to organizations who want to change things quickly without potentially causing additional costs from unintended ETFs. The other area where Megaport can improve is how clouds can direct-connect. For example, to connect Azure to IBM Cloud using a dedicated 10 Gbps link to IBM, there are a couple of options, one of which is much simpler. The more complex option is to set up a Mega Cloud Router (MCR) and plumb an Azure ExpressRoute (and Megaport VXC) to the router, followed by buying a Megaport "port" in a datacenter IBM is colocated in and extending a VXC to that. The simpler option is to eliminate the MCR from the complex option and extend the Azure ExpressRoute/Megaport VXC to the Megaport "Port" in the IBM-colocated data center. Because the BGP peering can now happen directly between Azure and IBM, this saves compute resources in the Megaport network by reducing the load on the routing infrastructure (it's all switching at that point). To improve this further, allow Azure (or any cloud) to connect natively to the other clouds without needing to buy a "port". The purchasing process and required minimum contract length for a "port" (specific to this kind of use-case) detracts from agility and the ability to dynamically test/update configurations. Let the clouds peer with each other. While this does cause a loss of MCR revenue, it would allow an organization to afford additional simultaneous connections. Alternatively, find a way to make this model more "valuable" with additional features (such as an included second connection) and then make this a more "premiunm" connection type (with a _reasonable_ increase in cost). However, don't make this more expensive than implementing an MCR in the middle. Both architectures have value for different scenarios. **What problems is Megaport solving and how is that benefiting you?** Megaport initially was our primary connectivitiy for internal WAN. After moving exclusively to the "cloud", we leverage Megaport for strategic connections between cloud service providers. ### 30. If I raise a support request (sending an email) all my responses have been quick and by someone who knows what they are talking about (even helped me when the bug was in my code calling an API). If we have very large transfers we can temporarily increase our bandwidth and then decrease it after the transfer is done, and we only pay for the extra bandwidth during that time.
