I'm a TV news producer, not an editor, but I use Interplay to watch video as it comes in, log soundbite and look through file tape to hand off to editors. Interplay is quick and easy to learn and mostly intuitive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Lots to be desired from a media management viewpoint"
2.5/5
What do you like best about MediaCentral l Asset Management?

Interplay is very intuitive and simple to browse around. The extended search is extremely valuable once you get the hang of the various search filters. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about MediaCentral l Asset Management?

The check in process is not intuitive at all and it is far too easy for users to make the database a total mess. Media managing this is a nightmare because the same bin can get checked in all over the place and there is no way to lock these down with permissions since permissions are really only ISIS based.

If you are a house that uses a lot of partial file restore, this is not the product for you. At least in my experience, sequences submitted for PFR are submitted as one job with however many sub jobs Interplay thinks it requires. This means that if one job fails, it will fail out every other job that has passed and is in queue. It also can take hours for check in of larger jobs to complete, even though all the media has been processed. Also. I have seen PFRs restore fair more media than is needed.

Lastly, restore bins do not draw metadata links to their original source assets. There is no way to tell if the items restored are being used in sequences because they just free float on their own. How are you supposed to know it's ok to take something restored back offline? Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
