Avid Media Composer is one of the best NLE programs you could find. It may not be as intuitive as some of the competition but once you figure out how the trim mode works, UI etc it becomes a pleasure to work with. Avid has been around so long that the system itself is very reliable. The AMA workflow has increased a lot since Avid 5.5 and depending on your project you could do an edit at offline res without any transcoding un till you are ready to Online. Project consolidation and Exporting is also reliable and you will rarely experience and technical glitches due to Avid.

Tape capturing is still very reliable.

One of the best features about Media Composer is the project sharing. This is absolutely genius. It makes it super easy to assist an editor this way and also help out working on different parts of the same project. Of course you can't both work on the same sequence or even the same bin. The AMA features could still be improved in terms of relinking back to the raw media. Most of the time it works. But even when following the correct protocol of setting the tape i.d. and disk label sometimes doesn't link back.

Bringing in a single MXF export from a grade can be a little tough. Especially when you have to place it in an Avid MedieFiles folder and use the MediaTool to bring it in. There has to be an easier way to do this... Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Avid is a robust, powerful editing program that my company has used for 25 years. It is incredibly stable, barely crashing and has enough built in effects and color grading capabilities to get the job done. media composer can handle any situation! While other platforms can get the job done, Composer gives you the tools and workflow to do it correctly the first time. If you are working on a long form edit there isn't other nle around that can handle the workload like composer.

The ability to share bins, projects, media is unlike any other software. The fact that I can be cutting a scene for a film and my assistant can be using the same media on the same server to transcode, preform small effects, fix audio and so on is amazing. With a program like Premiere it can't be done as easily or efficiently.

I just like how easy it is to use and how you don't have to "render" any footage like in FCP. Plus, I love how plugins don't get deleted when you move footage around anymore. They have definitely made some good upgrades over the years. I've used FCP and Premiere Pro (worst program EVER!) and I keep coming back to Media Composer. I hate the new stereo audio feature. If you record audio on a mic and don't select mono, it will create one stereo track that you can't separate without a mix down or some other work around if you want to move it.
