Media Composer has been around for a while, and for good reason. The interface is based on digitizing non-linear video editing, which allows you to do anything from a simple video for social media to create a full feature. Media Composer's biggest strength is the level of detail it allows you to reach in editing your videos. It does not only let you cut and place videos to create scenes - but totally morph, and color correct the image. Like many professional software, Media Composer's interface is not user-friendly at all. Using the software and unlocking its true potential requires many hours of training. Even simply splicing, organizing videos in bins and exporting would require some degree of training. If you're looking to create a simple photo montage to show your family at dinner, this is not the right software. Avid is a very comprehensive editing software. The customizable keyboards have allowed become very speedy and precise with my edits.The ability to work in the same project as another editor is crucial. That is by far the best feature of Avid. Avid seems like it has clunky coding. Errors pop up and they don't even begin to explain what the actual issues are. Luckily, using this product day in and day out allows you to "speak avid" be able to fix the issues. Also it can be very frustrating when working with mixed frame rates. Avid is the longstanding giant in the industry, and for good reason. Its project management capabilities are unparalleled, allowing for easy moving/reloading of projects. Project sharing is also very easy and rock solid within the Avid shared storage environment. The software does not slow down upon lengthy use or with very large projects. Media Composer is a very efficient NLE. The audio tools and audio effects work really well inside of it and the ability to nest audio effects is great. They also recently increased the amount of audio tracks available which means less audio mixdowns required. Media composer also has it's built in color correction tool which makes it very easy to do a quick color correction for rough cut reviews. The standard short keys mapped to avid are very straightforward and MC makes it very easy to remap those keys as well.

For someone who works a lot in after effects and Davinci Resolve, MC does not work the greatest when roundtripping. I've noticed with After effects I need to export clips and then send them to AE, otherwise MC crashes often. The same can be said about Resolve, I recently had issues trying to roundtrip 4k clips in a 1080p timeline. I ended up just having to export the whole timeline in order do my color grade and bring it back into Avid.

The only other thing is a lot of the new Sony Codecs do not work natively with MC, oftentimes i have had to either convert the files before bringing it into MC or I have had to download a plugin and AMA link them and then transcode. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
