This would not be the case if we had decided to go with our previous solution. Our uptime for our other Email service sits around 99.5%, where our MDaemon is 99.98%. Also, possibly one of the most convenient features is that you can change the mailbox name of an individual, but the emails that were associated with the previous mailbox name are still associated. Also, the documentation/forums for MDaemon Email have been surprisingly helpful in figuring out features and solving any issues. **What do you dislike about MDaemon Email Server?** Actually, it's quite difficult to find a downside to MDaemon. I can't think of any real or significant downside since the three years of using the product. **Recommendations to others considering MDaemon Email Server:** Using Mdaemon saves us a significant amount of money when compared to Microsoft Exchange. Additionally, as mentioned before, we have a decent amount of seasonal or part-time employees that need email addresses. Thanks to the import and export by .csv feature in MDaemon, we have implemented an automated account generation that happens weekly. Since we no longer have to create accounts manually and generate random passwords for each new account, we have saved around 2 hours weekly because of this. **What problems is MDaemon Email Server solving and how is that benefiting you?** Since a majority of Avflight employees are seasonal or part-time, we needed to be able to create accounts quickly which can be cumbersome in Microsoft Exchange, which we use for the Parent corporation. The consultants could not get it to work as well as MDaemon had, and we finally abandoned the change. They do help but I am still having a very long (year+) issue which is related to my specific use case with MDaemon which they have not been able to find the reason for. Being also a developer I know their developers could have put debug builds on my machine to help resolve the issue as we have tried everything to replicate it on their side without success but that was never even a suggestion. Mail software is some of the most annoying and tricky software that any IT guy needs to familiarise themselves with. It has taken me a few minutes to ponder and find what I liked about MDaemon over and above other platforms that I have used..., so I then decided to review as if it were the only mail available. It sends emails. **What do you dislike about MDaemon Email Server?** The fragility of it. The unnecessary complexity around its antique GUI. The support exists if you want to pay the premium for it, but isn't that why I was paying my licence? Oh but there is plenty of self-help available but finding it through the mountains of material all written in IT speak... I guess Mdaemon was not a good choice for our company and if I could remove the decision-makers that figured it was a cheaper alternative because the advertising said so when comparing it to cloud-based hosted systems I would do so. Maybe I am being too hard on this software, maybe we should have taken a hosted option instead of spending the nearly 60 manhours (so far) just to get some functions to work, yes one of those is email. During an upgrade, we lost some 2 hours worth of emails because of the online instructions missed a couple of steps that their support guys later pointed out. If we had paid for the extra support we may or may not have come across this issue, but then the extra support costs would mean we could have paid for the hosted systems that are available and that would be the same price. Is it just me.... wish I could go back to that point in time when we were making a decision to keep going with MDaemon or switch to hosted... hindsight always 20/20 **Recommendations to others considering MDaemon Email Server:** Seriously consider a hosted option. It will save you hours and hours of email management pain. **What problems is MDaemon Email Server solving and how is that benefiting you?** This is another of those questions that I don't believe pondering is going to make me magically find something. It has not solved problems, rather caused many. Some of these I am still trying to deal with today. Those benefits you ask about, is this when comparing MDaemon to cloud-based hosted systems? Rarely gives trouble, and problems are mostly easy to diagnose. Much more flexible than Exchange, and will work with any standard SMTP account. Includes as standard many features that are expensive add-ons for Exchange. Settings and data are in files rather than a database, which makes for greater transparency. **What do you dislike about MDaemon Email Server?** The file based storage means that large mailbox access does get a mite slow on mechanical disks. No problem with a couple of enterprise grade SSDs though. Integration with Outlook is less complete than with Exchange, and won't always satisfy the Microsoft-worshippers who expect all of the more obscure features to be there. **Recommendations to others considering MDaemon Email Server:** Try it. **What problems is MDaemon Email Server solving and how is that benefiting you?** Easy setup, easy migration to another server. Just works, hardly ever any downtime. Really nice webmail program. Highly configurable. Does not require an active directory, but can be run on a DC and use its account authentication. We haven't found any limitations on email functionality and we have lived through a lot of changes in security processing over the past decade. While none of our users relies on the webclient for normal use everyone agrees that it is an excellent back up interface to their main mail clients. The Spam filtering capability in particular has proved to be very accurate. We migrate compromises dead accounts to be treated as honeypots and this has proven to be very effective. **What do you dislike about MDaemon Email Server?** The interface is still a bit cryptic and finding lower use feature to use like the alias file is a pain. Some features are just hard to find. So while its great that they are there, the user interface doesn't always make them easy to find. The Help documentation is not as helpful as it could/should be with respect to this. The mail flow logging through each check is also very helpfull in tracing deliverability. The best part of Mdaemon I feel is the simplicity and ease when either moving the installation to another physical machine or upgrading the exisiting installation, no other mail solution comes even close. Mdaemons Webmail is also the most advance and best I have used in the 18 years that i have been in the ISP sector, its your entire mail solution online, accessible from anywhere. Webadmin is also great for remote administration for support staff, without having to access the actual app on the server. The spam assassin intergration also works very well if managed correctly with very few false positives. **What do you dislike about MDaemon Email Server?** The Outlook connector DB stability and performance is a bit annoying at times and requires constant maintenance once the file size grows. The Live Log viewing and flow via the APP GUI needs to be more manageable, currently you can only print / search the live log, there either needs to be a filter option where your can eitehr filter logs via sender / reciepient / failure etc. or even a terminal option like linux has where you can grep the live log for specific entries. **Recommendations to others considering MDaemon Email Server:** You won't go wrong or look back! **What problems is MDaemon Email Server solving and how is that benefiting you?** Solved alot of issues. It has a lot of features and have been on the forefront implementing and writing standards for security features. Also that it supports both database but also file based mail storage is also appreciated making it easier for smaller server installations with backup and restore.. **What do you dislike about MDaemon Email Server?** Have from time to time experienced some problem with CFilter.exe crashes and mail ending up in Holding Queue. Also the WorldClient could possible need some additional themes for the users to choose from. There is also one more thing I feel that AltN is starting to lag behind. In the past, with Alt-N with Arvel at the edge, i felt that you where at the forefront regarding security features being involved in inventing and setting new standards but now feel that you have started to lag behind and is not as diverse and hungry but rather just sit back and relaxing. Please rewind the clock 5 years and be a bit more entrepreneur:ish and less "Fortune 500":ish :-) I feel that it started to go downhill in the timefram when you went in bed with Blackberry/BES and has not really recovered since then. Don't get me wrong, I still like MD and recommend it but I would like for you to get back to your roots and make it fun again to install new versions of MD. :-) **Recommendations to others considering MDaemon Email Server:** Think through what you really want, then really trial MDaemon thoroughly going through all features, then trial another mail server. A customer could go weeks without knowing their website is acting up, but if mail stops flowing, they let you know within minutes. The good news is that with MDaemon, the mail services just keep on ticking, without any interruptions, year after year. **What do you dislike about MDaemon Email Server?** I wish the upgrades/renewals could be done within the software (instead you have to use their website), and getting to an account to edit is a little clumsy. (for example, you go one place to edit an account but another to delete it). **Recommendations to others considering MDaemon Email Server:** If you want a really stable email platform that constantly improves, then look no further than MDaemon **What problems is MDaemon Email Server solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have a relatively small number of accounts (<200) but send out 10,000+ emails a day as part of our billing process. MDaemon churns through the queue relentlessly without fail and lets us know if there is a delivery problem. Probably my favorite feature in the whole package is if an email bounces, it send the log file along with the bounce, so you can see exactly what happened between the mail server and the next hop. MDaemon has stood the test of time! Over the years I have come across many email server products. If you are looking for a email messaging system then MDaemon is designed for you. As a small to medium sized business we needed a work horse to work day in and day out. Easy to setup, manage and seamless upgrade. The customer service responsive and they take customer feedback seriously. The anti-spam and anti-virus features are outstanding. I was able to cut down anti-spam by 98%. The outbreak feature compliments the anti-spam and works like charm. In addition, the product has wonderful capability to delegate sub-admin to a domain allowing the domain user management to be distributed. In addition, the web access to email has been fantastic - whether you are in the office or on the road just point to the web access interface and voila you have access to email. The product has strong email management capabilities where you can on a domain by domain basis create email retention requirements. Keep email forever or delete email after 180 days. I would strongly recommend this product if you have 1 or many domains that you need to manage. Recently, the addition of Let's Encrypt integration has allowed the usage of public grade certificates to secure email server access via the browser. I think the separation from Blackberry was great - this allowed the development team to start focusing on the MDaemon product vs. trying to integrate with Blackberry. I have never been disappointed with this product and would highly recommend it to other SMB or even enterprises where they are looking for a feature rich and robust platform. The product is in active development and they continually release updates, features and bug fixes. The upgrade process is also very simple, just go to Help and click on check for updates and within minutes the product is updated. No long downtime scheduling required. Keep up the good work. **What do you dislike about MDaemon Email Server?** While I do not have any dislikes - I would like to have more advanced and robust virtual hosting/domain management capabilities. We turned to MDaemon when noticing the cost of the Microsoft Exchange Server. We run a busy law firm and this product fits the bill perfectly. **What do you dislike about MDaemon Email Server?** It's really hard to answer this because it's been 20 years since I've used anything comparable. I dislike when Outlook slows down (which currently happens weekly), however we have a HUGE data store, and that might be what's contributing to the slow down. In normal business you can call it a "fire and forget" software. It causes very less work and money for running the server and it´s kept up-to-date very fast by providing patches on short time if needed. We use it with the famous Outlook-connector, enjoying a huge amount of workablilty and avoiding more expensive Microsoft Exchange-Products. There might be cheaper solutions - but we could not afford the risk to renounce "our" Mdaemon. It also protects our company against threats like Malware or other attacks from outside using the sophisticated security functions. **What do you dislike about MDaemon Email Server?** That the active-sync function is not integrated into the MdaemonPro, so we have to buy this as upgrade. **What problems is MDaemon Email Server solving and how is that benefiting you?** Complete integration of all Com-tasks like Email, Calender-sharing, external clients like smartphone-integration and security/protection. We rely on it's ability to "scrub" incoming email for SPAM, Viruses and other threats before it ever reaches our internal servers and users. We also love the ability to create custom Content filers, Whitelist partner domains and IP's, along with easily searchable logs when a question arises. We have been using Mdaemon since the early 2000's and they continue to grow, improve, and innovate.
