First of all, I love that just saying you used some software can increase the face validity of your study. MaxQDA is really helpful software for working with data for qualitative research. The interface is fairly intuitive. it's easy to load documents and accepts lots of file types including images. Codebooks are relatively easy to set up. You highlight text and then drag and drop to code which supports easy coding. There is some ability to work in teams by merging projects or important just parts of a project like new codes or coded documents. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The teamwork options are not as seamless as they could be. You have to set up coding in a particular way or merges do not work properly. We find there are not as much functionality as we would like when comparing coding results between different coders. also it would be ideal to have an option where you support easier cross-coding by keeping the same units of text the first coder chose but removing information about what they coded that segment as. MAXQDA is colorful, making it "fun" to work with. You can reorganize codes and even mark them with symbols or different colors. The program will auto code according to excel columns and formatting. It is also easy to assign variables using an excel table or change codes to variables. Moreover, you can search for a word or phrase and code either just the word or the surrounding sentences. The package that includes the dictionary and statistics represents good value for money. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

MAXQDA can't deal with xml tagging in the sense that it isn't possible to automatically assign variables based on tags or only search certain parts of a file. It also lacks a feature which would automatically combine marking if, e.g., the same word appears twice in the same sentence. Finally, it can't import emails. This program made coding quick and efficient. I liked that you can color code the codes and also use shortcuts to put them in! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
