Maximo

4.2
(216)

Maximo, when combined with the power of IoT data from people, sensors and devices, can provide warning signals from assets—reducing unplanned downtime and increasing operational efficiency. With this data, it also enables near real-time visibility into asset usage across multiple sites, extends the useful life of equipment, improves return on assets and defers new purchases. Watch the video below to see it in action.

"Everything and then some..."

What do you like best?

Maximo does everything we need it to. I like how it does everything that our business partners want it to, and how it integrates with multiple systems of ours.

What do you dislike?

I'd love to see it scale a bit better. Maximo can be deployed to multiple servers, but I'd really love to see a Docker implementation. It comes with a SOAP service, but a REST service would also be better. Maybe this is around in future versions, but it seems absent in 8.5.

The future is here, and we're anxious to see somethig faster and more scaleable. I hope to see what the future holds at Think.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We need to create Work Orders and everything related to work orders. The system offers excellent integrations with our own internal systems, and does everything that our business partners want it to.

"Maximo is THE EAM system"

What do you like best?

Maximo is a very robust EAM system that will allow you to configure asset lifecycle maintenance activies at an enterprise level. It is more user friendly than many of the other enterprise level systems and is easily configurable to allow very specific solutions to be designed based on your business case.

What do you dislike?

I dislike the licensing model and trying to figure out what license levels have access to which modules.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

You must have management support and buy-in before implementing Maximo (or any EAM system). Without support from the top, driving behavior and system adoption, it will take decades to accomplish any results using any software.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are trying to become more proactive rather than reactive when it comes to maintenance. We are also trying to digitally capture all our asset information, work history, spare parts, etc. to allow us to have a better understanding of how our assets are performing while improving uptime.

What Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"I am a gold business partner and IBM development partner working >15 years in Maximo"

What do you like best?

I really like the work centers and new UX, but MAHI is a fundamental extension in this era. Another great progress is the Maximo for Aviation where all critical Maximo products and add-ons are bundled in one single solution

What do you dislike?

I dislike the segregated development for the different add-ons and industry solutions, such as a totally different approach on inspections in for instance Anywhere and work centers. This leads to asset information stored in different tables.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Conti nue with the new UX (Lightning) and Watson Integration

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The entire E2E process is covered with Maximo, however based on the client maturity level has a huge impact on the end-to-end process and the information available to accomplish the processes. The benefits realized is a fleet managent dashboard with real business insights and KPI's that add real business value

"Great EAM to Extend into Things"

What do you like best?

Maximo is a comprehensive platform. It should be considered a hub for IBM's foray into IOT. I think there is a lot of potential in the platform for the evolution of Things in our world because automation can't and won't be complete for many years and therefore, maintenance and repair operations will continue to be a focus area for companies.

What do you dislike?

Anywhere is a horrible product. It should be removed from the market because it is ruining IBM's brand.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Maximo is not a part of Think, but it should be--or ReliabilityWeb's Maximo World should be called IBM Things. IBM needs to embrace new entrant partners who develop apps with Maximo. IBM needs to change its barriers to entry for the partner community.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Maximo can be blended with Watson in creative ways that solve reliability issues if IBM ever gave it a chance to.

"robust with coverage for all industries, but you need to choose where to start and how deep you go"

What do you like best?

Maximo is vast. it is in virtually every industry, and covers not just everything MRO. Procurement of production related parts for example, can and is done in Maximo. Not typically where I expect someone to start, but it happens. There is often too much for an organization to get into at once, so it is usually better to determine the best processes to automate, and prioritize to what level you will go.

What do you dislike?

pm sequencing; lack of a task library (as opposed to job plan library); licensing maintenance is complicated to document, understand and deploy;

Recommendations to others considering the product:

kick the tires. isolate business processes and evaluate for automation. prioritize, train, analyze, re-retrain

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

single centralized storehouse for MRO data from which to aggregate and analyze data to build into information to drive change and evaluate progress.

"Maximo review"

What do you like best?

Capable and has amazing industry verticals which set Maximo apart from all competitors. The addition of HSE manager was a great value and the recent Supply Chain functionalities enhancement were spot on. Overall, when it comes to having an out of the box product with deep industry understanding, Maximo is the way to go.

What do you dislike?

The product lacks standards business processes, just like SAP, Maximo must ship with standard business process. Stressing on the same point, I'd rather spend time and money understanding the standard business process and using it as a starting point than having the absolute freedom to create whatever because this is where "replicating legacy systems" starts

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Maximo is a very complex system that can be configured to your exact needs. While there is some upfront learning curve, once you get the hang of it, you're only limited by your imagination as to what you can solve with Maximo. We've tracked everything from people, to refrigerant, to timecards, to schematics, and so much more.

"Maximo Streamlines Compliance Activities/Issues with Anywhere and Spatial."

What do you like best?

Maximo has significantly improved work management for our field employees and compliance.

What do you dislike?

We have been unable to get Maximo Anywhere and Maximo Spatial working. We had made some strides in getting Spatial working, but then that got broken with a Maximo update to the product. IBM doesn't seem to support the Anywhere and Spatial products like they do the main Maximo product. Currently bugs in both products are delaying/preventing a rollout.

Maximo now has a Cognos offering, but little is shared about how that can be integrated with our existing Cognos implementation. In fact, I have been unable to get information from Maximo, and the Cognos team differs to the Maximo team.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Work managemenet for all of the field employees. Simplified and streamline entry of Safety, Security and Pipeline events. streamlined management of the company's fleet; Improved maintenance of our Compressor stations. We would like to further enable the field with mobility and access to our GIS/PODS data, but the Anywhere and Spatial products are not working.

"QA lead"

What do you like best?

Maximo has many features that helps maintain the Asset Management life cycle. The feature that I like the most is how you can clone the out of the box application and clone them and make changes as per your business needs.

What do you dislike?

Maximo is not user friendly. Most of the screens has lots of fields which are all not used. It requires many training sessions for the users to start using Maxio

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Maximo has helped solve many of the Business problems , like allowing the capability to customize the screens. We are able to customize the work order screen to create a light version and the business is happy.

"Excellent Everything"

What do you like best?

User experience is top notch. The UI is very intuitive.

What do you dislike?

Discovering that a standard option exists that I did not know about.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If you don't consider Maximo then you need to increase your budget because you won't be happy with the product you end up with. Have seen too many customers switch to Maximo after failed implementations/use of other products.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Keeping our inventory under control had been an issue. With many moving parts between systems and reporting tools the process to cycle count and generally manage inventory was a pain to say the least. Using mobility and diving deeper in our understanding of Maximo's material management capabilities has helped us to gain better control of all aspects of our inventory.

"IBM Maximo is the best EAM solution in the world"

What do you like best?

Maximo's configurability sets it apart from the competition in that it doesn't require a high degree of specialized technical knowledge to configure it to support specific business requirements and cater to pockets of excellence within the company or to lend agility to the business when requirements change.

What do you dislike?

At this time there is nothing I don't like about this product.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

It's great! Maximo has been in the leader's quadrant by Gartner and the Arc Advisory Council for the past 11 - 12 years running.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Maximo enables effective and efficient asset, work, and inventory management for operations and maintenance organizations within a company. The capabilities provided cover a wide array of requirements shared across many verticles such as industrial, comm, transportation, aviation, oil & gas, and manufacturing. The benefits are high end-user buy-in which results in accurate data collection for detailed analysis to facilitate continuous improvement.

"Powerful Asset Management Tool to Meet Many Needs"

What do you like best?

Maximo is configurable to meet all the asset management needs that have been required. There are quite a few resources available to help with implementation/ upgrade/ enhancement questions.

What do you dislike?

Because Maximo is so configurable, you have to plan carefully to make sure things don't have to be reconfigured down the road.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Ask for references in the same industry that you are interested in using Maximo for. Every industry uses Maximo differently, and asking for references in your industry can help foster relationships that will help you with your implementation.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Complex maintenance needs, intertwined with strict local/ state/ federal regulatory requirements. The biggest benefits we have realized are capturing institutional knowledge, and providing that information to technicians in the field to accomplish their work more effectively.

"Occasionally frustrating, but better than other database apps"

What do you like best?

This app is very tailored to running a maintenance shop. It's really good for keeping up on your PMIs and helping you with inventory maintenance

What do you dislike?

The search on this is absolutely terrible. Old Boolean style searching and half the time it can't find things because a part number is incomplete in the system. I'm not sure how to fix it, but I feel like it could be so much more user friendly

Recommendations to others considering the product:

As compared to other inventory database apps, this one is decent. Though, they need to work on their search functions.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It has helped us to make sure we have the inventory we need when we need it. I can even look at the inventory of other facilities if we don't happen to have the part I need right this moment.

"Maximo is the most powerful yet flexible asset management package peirod!"

What do you like best?

Maximo's core functionality is expansive and provides more than what's required for most companies to accomplish their asset management objectives. The fact that it can be readily configured to meet even the most complex business process requiremets and includes a robust integration infrastructure makes it the best asset management system in my opinion.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes when reporting "bugs" to support, we are told "that's working as designed", that's probably the most frustrating, but this is not always the case. As well, I would love if within the work flow canvas that you could select the end of an action line and drag it to a new node instead of having to delete and recreate them.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

As a business partner I implement and consult with lots of different clients and even though everyone is using Maximo for asset management, everyone client is unique. I've performed numerous integrations to various financial systems, controls systems, permiting applications etc. As well Maximo's powerful work flow allows us to enforce the simplest to the most complex processes.

"IBM Maximo au maximum de ses performances."

What do you like best?

What do you dislike?

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Continuer dans cette direction, je pense que l'implantation en france est une bonne chose.

Maximo peut être très complexe au cours des implémentations initiales et certaines mises à niveau .

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"MAXIMO - so many opportunities"

What do you like best?

MAXIMO is so configurable. You can make it do anything! If you can't figure it out on your own - there's a whole community of users willing to help.

What do you dislike?

The data entry is cumbersome, having to type the same number over and over again to put it on multiple records. There should be a way to update fields in multiple records at the same time.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

MAXIMO is a workhorse. Proper setup begins with good processes and knowing what you want out of it. If you don't define the proper fields up front, you won't be able to get the data you want 3 years down the road. Use an experienced 3rd party consultant to set up your system.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Tracking work on assets. What has been done, who did it, how much did it cost.

"Recommend Maximo as Best in Class"

What do you like best?

As an IT professional, I love the flexibility of configurating all the various applications within Maximo. My favorite new feature is autoscripting.

What do you dislike?

My biggest pet peave of Maximo is how the new feature packs don't necessarily align with the Industry Solutions. I also do not like how long it takes to get answers from support and when submitting PMRs.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Go to conferences, and ask questions and get demo's from within your industry.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Our next high priority project will be to implement inventory in Maximo to ensure a large ROI.

"Powerful product but bloated and non intuitive. Also expensive."

What do you like best?

My current organization used Assyst and this is MUCH better and more capable. We use it for management of Incidents, Service Requests and Changes which works great. You can attach documents and notifications work great, as well.

What do you dislike?

It is not very intuitive, however, and is very expensive between the implementation and custom development (Maximo developers are expensive!). There are cheaper products (or free) out there, that's for sure, that will give you the same functionality. As well, we are looking for ways to dynamically update IT assets (workstations, servers, routers, etc) but there appears to be no way to do that. Reporting is also very limited without springing for the extra reporting module.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Management of IT Incidents, Service Requests and Changes.

"Great all-in-one solution"

What do you like best?

Maximo has helped enable our business to have an all-in-one solution for Asset Management and Tools Calibration. Similarly, Maximo is one of the few (if not the only) EAM system which is compliant with the FDA 21 Part 11 (electronic records and digital signatures). Coming from a medical device industry, this has been paramount for us.

What do you dislike?

In order to fully tap into all of the capabilities Maximo offers, you need to add various other "bolt-ons" or additional solutions offered by IBM. Would really like to see these included in the base Maximo offering.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Having a standardized, global solution to manage all of our Enterprise Assets in a medical device industry.

"Excellent product, market leader not by chance"

What do you like best?

Maximo is just leader for asset management, it manages everything about an asset lifecycle going from the acqusiition, to management of maintenance, to decomissioning. It can also manage very well workflows (let's say, acquisition approval and such), these can be configured to the detail to adhere perfectly to enterprise policies.

It is also very easily integrated with HR and cost management software such as SAP either by using it's official adapter or API's.

All in all maximo is the way to go for asset management

What do you dislike?

The interface is a bit old, this is unfortunately often an issue with IBM products. Although the product is good and the interface is simple and cannot be too complicated, the interface could be improved with a little bit of eye candy.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

For SAP integration it's best to just the API's without having to pay for the official adapter.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Asset management has become easier to implement and make it so that the company doesn't have to change it's policy to adapt to the software.

"Stable Reliable and predicdable updates"

What do you like best?

Maximo has a long track record of stable, predictable and desired updates and upgrades. These updates are well communcatied and the development team behind them is knowledgable and accisble.

What do you dislike?

Maximo has so much flexibility and built in capability it can be overwhelming to the new users.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Understand how you do your work and and what you are keeping the same and changing. And dont be afraid to keep chainging

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Complex system with lots of customization, but performance is sub-par"

What do you like best?

Customization: Data sets and usage can be customized to all ends.

Web app interface for our asset dictionary and software dictionary is clean and organized. Great setup for managing life cycle of various components within our systems.

**We use this system in relation to a few other IBM systems, Maximo being a fundamental piece.

What do you dislike?

Performance. The scope of our use of Maximo is vast - many hundreds of users, and hundreds on hundreds of data sets for anything you can think. We also have scripting engines tied into some of the details to help automate some of our processes. With that said, one would hope the system would continue to function in a speedy manner. In peak times, we see a degradation in speed that can be frustrating at times.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Ensure you use the tool to its potential. There are so many sets of data you can customize and pull. Which in itself can cause issues if your users are not properly trained. Ensure they know how to use the system to provide proper data for whatever you want to capture/track, etc.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Asset management, asset dictionary, software dictionary and availability, knowledge management. This allows us to track deployment of various hardware pieces, and to plan for timely upgrades when appropriate. This definitely aids in our asset life cycle for our computers.

It is also a tool we use to manage our software dictionary and track/update software titles when appropriate.

"Maximo: A Useful Tool Once You KNow How To Use It"

What do you like best?

Maximo is customizable and adaptable to your business needs. I enjoy that there are many aspects that can be used from Maximo straight out of the box and that it can also be used with add-ins. There are different options for reporting which is great for analyzing various data points.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes there are too many "clicks" involved in getting scheduling done (although this could be a training issue more than it is an issue with the software).

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Our big project now is getting the Materials Management module set-up. We have never taken a formal inventory of our materials before, so we haven't been monitoring Total Cost of Ownership. I believe the module is really going to help us get on track.

"Maximo is Everywhere"

What do you like best?

Maximo is focused on assets -- not tasks or people or cost . Everything is centered around the asset.

What do you dislike?

UI. The UI is extremely outdated and it has become very difficult to sell to younger users who expect a modern UI and UX.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

"Elephant in the room"

What do you like best?

Maximo can be configured to do most anything. Inventory management, scheduling, work orders, transportation, preventative maintenance for any size corporation that needs asset management.

What do you dislike?

Maximo is so all-encompassing that there is no focus on any particular field. The software can be configured to meet any requirements but this will require an in-house Maximo guru or a contract with an outside company. It can be programmed to anything you need if you have the necessary staffing or funds to outsource.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

This is a very expensive investment for most any company. An in-house Maximo guru is extremely valuable to maintain software issues, develop reports, configure to user needs, etc. Outside assistance is very costly, IBM assistance is almost non-existent to a private organization.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Work order processing, preventative maintenance scheduling, transportation module, repair history, lifetime costs.

"MAXIMO... HAs everything you need for Service Mgmt, but..."

What do you like best?

The best feature is the customizable desktop for techinicians. You can customize what each users sees in their main screen. This is great as you can put technical requests for techs, KPIs and reports for Quality Analysts, etc.

It is very important to perform a very detailed analysis of which your requirements will be at the beginning to ensure the initial configuration of the tool is well done. Not only for support teams, but also for the kind of services you will be handling from the tool. Maximo offers a bunch of data attributes to fill in, it is important you understand them, how they interact between each other, and how you would like to obtain the reports and data extracts. Maximo already has some default reports but you can develop new reports with the information you like, but don't forget to ensure all the fields you need are able to be reported. Some of them might not show up.

What do you dislike?

Maybe it has too many fields that most of the organizations will never use as it is very demanding to fulfill them all.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

It is important that if you acquire this product with IBM support of it, you request a dedicated database for you. Because if you share the database with other customers (even though you don't see the other customers, of course), customizing the tool becomes really complicated and the tool's response times go really down.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I was able to develop a lot of automated reports with combined data from multiple sources.

"maximo inspections "

What do you like best?

Maximo Inspections will provide a more efficient way for us to check conditions and open work orders in real time.

What do you dislike?

It can still be more user friendly, especially in the visual representation arena. our work force is young and used to look at slick apps and apple store products, we need to design the look to mirror those to make the tools in maximo easier for the users to accept.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We're using inspections and maximo anywhere to track maintenance. Because we have better visibility to issues we get the attention needed to fix them immediately and encouragement and support to find long term solutions.

What do you like best?

Maximo moves quickly, and you can customize it to have almost any configuration of fields you can imagine. Maximo integrates well with other solutions to work across an entire organization.

What do you dislike?

When the designers of a view pick a lot of fields, finding your way between them is cluttered and confusing. Also, Maximo plays better with some back-ends than others.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have found Maximo works well for housing a lot of kind of siloed teams tickets, helping us to start talking to each other more, because now we can send tickets back and forth between teams.
