What do you like best?

Mavenlink is great for organizing the main tasks in a project as well as a great database for project files. It quickly helps a project management team understand what milestones and tasks have been completed, and it is also great for tracking issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The Mavenlink tool is designed for tracking simple, high-level tasks, and is not necessarily the best tool for tracking intricate, multi-level tasks with subtlety. Also the reporting tools are somewhat limited. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are tracking projects in an efficient way. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Product Description

Mavenlink offers a powerful combination of Project Management and Professional Services Automation (PSA) software for advanced project management, resource planning, collaboration, and financial management all in one place.

How do you position yourself against your competitors?

1) Dynamic Resource Optimization - Resource Optimization enables professional services firms to precisely determine the optimal mix of resources – at any scale – so you field the best team, every time, for driving profitability, delighting clients, and growing your people.

2) Robust Project Management with Financials in One - many PSA's say they offer project management, but in reality, the functionality is weak and incomplete. Our collaborative Project Management capabilities are top-of-class, evident on G2Crowd. Mavenlink is the only PSA listed as a PMM Leader AND a PSA Leader.

3) Collaboration at the Core - Mavenlink is built to bring teams together, and help them plan and deliver work in a highly collaborative, efficient, disciplined way. We're the only app serving professional service organizations that combines the principles of the latest Collaborative Work Management (CWM) apps and PSA in one.

What do you like best?

Master planning's bird's eye view of our team is invaluable. The ability to drag and play the game of tetris with our allocated resources and projects helps us immensely. We can get extremely granular with schedules to make sure our team is working at peak efficiency. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Schedule building. It is clunky and not user friendly at all. The lack of keyboard shortcuts is a pain. The biggest issue I've found is not being able to copy/paste tasks or milestones. This is a huge pain point for us as we are often replicating and reusing schedules differently than would be required in using templates. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Make sure you need a tool this robust. It has a ton of features that are great, but can be overwhelming for folks that maybe aren't trying to get as granular. If you're trying to solve efficiency and scheduling woes, Mavenlink is a great option. If you are just looking for a scheduling tool and time tracking, this could be too robust for your needs.

Also make sure you have the time to invest in a proper setup. It is not a plug and play, one-day setup. Give yourselves plenty of lead time to make sure it is truly augmented to your exact needs. It is well worth the time required. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Resourcing our projects and tracking accurate burn. We have realized that we need to be paying much closer attention to our team members' allocated hours. We also realized how inefficient our old processes were and how valuable it is to be able to use a tool like master planner. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The user interface is easy enough to pick up without much effort or training. Most of the platform is intuitive and there are a ton of reports and customization that can get you the info you need. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The platform can be clunky and it has some latency issues in the timesheets and task tracker view. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If you have a huge organization and need to do a lot of resource management and time scheduling with projects that have a ton of tasks, this platform may be a bit too clunky for you. It has some downsides that make using the platform as a power user a bit tricky. That being said, their internal development team seems committed to updating and improving many key areas of the platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are solving capacity and time scheduling issues within our organization. We have realized the benefits of a number of metrics, such as utilization rate and scheduled performance to date. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Mavenlink is a very powerful tool to manage projects and there are multiple reasons we went for it after throughly analyzing other tools. We have over 850 employees spread out in 15 offices across the globe and Mavenlink is very easy to use thanks to its intuitive interface and all the help tutorials, videos, FAQs, and great live support. Overall, we've been using it for 5 years.

The other positive thing is Mavenlink has many integrations with 3rd party tools like JIRA, Salesforce, and many others. It's a huge plus there's also Mavenlink API for everything else that isn't yet officially supported.

The platform has project templates, Gantt chart, time tracking tools, expense reports, timesheets, invoicing, file storage, collaboration feed, resource planner and all kinds of reports. It is accompanied by very flexible permission management and different rate cards depending on a region. What is also nice, you can invite client users to projects for free.

The notification management is pretty flexible and is done via emails that you can configure in many ways to not get overwhelmed with all the updates (a big plus).

Last but not least, there is a web-optimized mobile app and a browser plug-in to do time tracking and project updates on the go. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

With all the benefits, there are a few minor inconveniences. For example, you cannot select multiple tasks/milestones/deliverables in a project and do a mass-update (i.e. change status or assignees) - you have to go one by one (as of 2020 there was an updated task tracker in beta which will address this). File manager portion could also be expanded and use some permission management, folders, upload requests or sharing links. It doesn't look like Mavenlink supports multiple languages (at least we use English UI across the company and the help portal didn't suggest any language settings per user). Other than that there isn't much to wish for. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If you're looking for on-premise locally hosted/deployed solution, consider something else. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We do marketing SaaS implementations for some of the biggest companies out there and Mavenlink is our project management tool. It helps us keep projects on track and within the set budgets, improves collaboration with customers, and makes the whole project management easier and more efficient. What do you like best?

It is so easy to track your time. Also, this is such a simple platform to train new employees. I am able to train employees within 15-30 minutes and they feel extremely confident in using the system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

There are some features that truly are annoying within Mavenlink. For example, when you run an Analytics report for a specific task for a specific user, it only shows the total amount of time tracked for that task within the time frame selected; BUT it would be even better if it also listed the all of the instances that the time was tracked for that task. When I am checking overages of hours for used sick time (over 24 hours), I have to go back on their time sheet to see when they had their overages. Meaning, if their overage was months ago, I have to continuous go through their timesheets to see when it was. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

As an HR professional, I am able to easily see exactly how much time off someone records and how we need to pay them accordingly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

I like that I am able to easily track projects, timelines, comments and team threads seamlessly in the same tool in a single dashboard view. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

There is a not a great deal of comments, best practices advice and discussions in the online forums, so it isn't always easy to find the answer to a frequently asked product question. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Once you start building projects and walking through the tool set within Mavenlink, it won't take too long to understand how you can tailor it to your needs and get the most out of the solution when it comes to tracking and delivering on projects and team goals. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

To track, coordinate and visibly/handily get project deliverables out the door using the tool set available within the product. It has come in handy countless times for our marketing and product teams to track ongoing digital projects and initiatives. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The best thing about Mavenlink is that I can see budgets and time entries in real-time. I struggled with our old project management software because it didn't include time tracking. I spent so much time trying to see where we were at on budgets before Mavenlink. Now, I can know in real-time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Really, my only big complaint about Mavenlink is a combination of little things (i.e. - the fact that checklist items don't have to be checked off to mark a task complete, the fact that my task repeater integration has yet to work consistently for longer than 2 months, etc.) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

I highly recommend Mavenlink for project management. If your job is to make sure that projects are getting done on time and within budget, this is by far the best tool out there. Yes, there may be some things that it doesn't do as well as others, but they are constantly making improvements and the customer service/support is wonderful! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

My biggest business problem that I'm able to solve with Mavenlink is knowing where a project stands with regards to budget, in real-time. It doesn't take me hours to figure it out. I know at the click of a button. This has made project management more efficient. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

We use the Master Planning resource allocation tool extensively to forecast upcoming resource needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

There are some nuances to setting up custom reports but the capability is there and our CSM has been helpful in getting us the support we need. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Mavenlink has a lot of solid features. I'd recommend rolling it out in functional phases so that you can start capturing your ROI as soon as possible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The first goal we had with implementing Mavenlink was to track our actuals. More recently, we've had a lot of focus on improving our forecasting and the Master Planning tool has been instrumental in completing that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

What do you dislike?

Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Microsoft Project se estaba utilizando para la planificación de recursos hasta ahora, pero ahora con Mavenlink, nos hemos dado cuenta de lo complejo que era todo el proceso. Después de tener una excelente experiencia de planificación de recursos en Mavenlink, nuestros altos directivos dijeron literalmente que no podían creer que lo estuvieran haciendo de otra manera. What do you like best?

The most helpful part of Mavenlink is its ability to keep multiple, concurrent projects organized. When it comes to agency work I often have multiple projects going at once with several different sub-tasks all with different deadlines. Being able to nest tasks under milestone projects and group them together by the client has been a huge benefit to organizing my workload and staying on top of things. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The learning curve can be difficult at first as there's a lot to take in and a variety of ways you can sort or view the data you put into the system. It's a matter of finding the views and structures that work well for you but it can be overwhelming for the first few weeks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Project organization and time tracking are the two biggest benefits I've had using Mavenlink. In the past, organizing client projects and related tasks and deadlines was a tedious mishmash of spreadsheets, google drive folders, emails, and local server storage, but with Mavenlink everything is neatly collected and linked in a single repository with easy to view timelines and deadlines. Additionally, the time tracking feature has proven to be a marked improvement over the roll-your-own solution that we had previously had in place. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Using this entirely in the browser rather than having to install an app is great. I also really like how it integrates with email so I can quickly see snapshots of communication on the go. It's quick and AJAX based so that you don't have to reload the page to see changes. It also never logs me out even when I go idle for long periods of time which is unexpected and very convenient. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The activity feed can be clunky and cumbersome to navigate. The time entry styling is somewhat aged - the text is small and sometimes there is a lack of visual hierarchy. I don't like how I have to delete the time out of each day for a task before I can delete the entire task row. I would also love a dark mode so I have less eye fatigue, especially since I use this so often throughout the day. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

You will be happy with the number of features Mavenlink has. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are quickly collaborating on projects and consolidating all of our communication for projects into one platform instead of having to look multiple places for background and info. The files tab is able to consolidate all project files into one screenshot. The time entry and tracking feature is robust and lets you enter time easily. We're able to quickly see capacity blocks and scheduling. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The software's basic function is easy to use, and it never breaks or fails or has any weird glitches -- it just works. I can easily see whether time is complete for a given day or week, and I can enter a lot of data about billing relatively efficiently. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The search functionality is limited -- I can search past billing entries by project or by keyword, but not by month or by the amount of time billed. Deleting a partially written entry is tricky; you have to click on the trash can and the project and the item in the correct order or the item might not be deleted. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If you just need a basic timekeeping software that works and that's accessible via the web, I would recommend Mavenlink without reservations. It's not fancy, but it gets the job done. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

My agency uses Mavenlink to track our spending on various grants; as a non-profit, it's important for us to be able to satisfy all of our various funders that we are working on the tasks that are relevant to each funder. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Mavenlink is a great tool to use on projects with multiple stakeholders - it helps centralize everything from updates, communications, and project timelines/details/steps. Additionally, you can do internal time tracking and manage billing/resource utilization as well which is really useful from an admin perspective! Lastly, when working across multiple systems, it's great that Mavenlink integrates with Slack and Salesforce so any updates posted there can update accordingly in the other systems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Adoption can be a bit tough - with very nuanced projects, the project templates can be a bit cumbersome or difficult to track through. The date dependencies and such are also a little less intuitive and may take some time to get used to. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Communications, project tracking, and time tracking! We are using the insights and centralization for tracking all of these things to gain better insights on team resourcing, allocation, and general project oversight. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Mavenlink makes good use of GoodData, the reporting engine that powers analytics/ providing the ability to build custom reporting for most data points Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Client logins are not able to see budget info. No project swimlanes. Attachments are a little clunky. Client support team is now able to support with reporting, (this typically requires paid support) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Mavenlink uses GoodData for all reporting which is pretty customizable, but can only pull down fresh information every hour, and then can't display that information for another half hour. May not be a deal-breaker, but something to consider. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Mavenlink offers a broad range of reporting abilities that permit us to better understand the projects of ours, data resources, portfolios and plans. This has enabled us to identify/adjust our KPI/KRI and also make use of the information we've readily available to better focus on our business strategies. Using Mavenlink, we haven't just improved the business of ours practices, but additionally received valuable information of crucial elements of our business that have been previously isolated. As fresh function becomes available, Mavenlink consistently enhance the platform based on consumer feedback, that is an excellent advantage. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

We've some small issues with specific features, for instance, the categorisation of terms/indicators in a pair of associations may be a little more transparent and it will be advisable to add comments to certain products when approving/deleting proposals than comments to other items. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

It conforms to the budget of ours and also has characteristics that we consider essential for dealing with the resources of ours. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Overall, Mavenlink was invaluable - it'd a really positive effect on the daily business of ours. I highly recommend it to organizations due to its versatility as well as most project and resource management functions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

We use the resource planning tool and it is very useful for managing resource allocation, and understanding where our time is going. It is much stronger in the financial aspects of project management than other tools we have used at our agency. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Most of the features and improvements in the tool are designed for resource management and project management teams, but there hasn't been much focus on usability for the workers using the software. Over the years we have been using the tool, I haven't seen much change in the quality of the product in the form of releasing features. In an internet that is very open with APIs, there are not many integrations available natively, which makes it tough to integrate with the increasing quantities of software we use to manage our business. Finally, there is currently no automation in the software, and everything needs to be updated manually to be effective. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Mavenlink tracks the financial side of project management well and gives you an accurate measurement of utilization down to the resource level. This has been helpful in understanding which of our clients are good relationships, vs which ones create challenges for us. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Fairly user friendly with how it works and the functionality of being able to track where a project is at, budget, and communicate with your team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

It's really robust and has a lot of features that can take a lot of time to learn. A lot of the pieces do take time to get used to as well if you're not used to using a project management software or tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Definitely ask for a demo and trial if available. Also know exactly what you're trying to solve for with getting Mavenlink. What do you like best?

Easy visibility of all available resources and project tracking allows us to manager the day to day operations of our PS organization. I also really like the customization of the insights reports. Although a large learning curve, there is a wide range that can be done with report/dashboard visualization. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Amount of time balancing Master Planner and Resource Scheduler. It would be better if they could be combined somehow to run multiple project on one page but also be able to select individual tasks as well. Right now we have the choice of doing either the master planner or resource scheduler and doing both is time consuming so we chose one option. However, master planner allocations do not connect to tasks when they should. If resources were allocated to a project and a PM could select a task all from the master planner it would be significantly easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

You need to go to their training session to really learn how to make your own insights reports. Without this training it would have been impossible for use to make the variety of reports we made. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

As a global organization, we need our PM teams to find the resources they need without over working them. We also wanted a better tool to analyze projects and find best practices to implement globally for better results. Mavenlink has enabled us greater visibility into our resources, their utilization and plan for the future. It has also allowed us to better manager and track our portfolio to reduce risk. What do you dislike?

There are things that are not as intuitive. Simple things like deleting comments on a project don't work. The activity feed only shows certain things, not most recent activities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Overall, if you want a simple way to log progress on projects, then this tool is for you. Any more complex projects may not necessarily work, but it has some good features to track projects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Tracking time and projects are important, so Mavenlink does help with that. Instead of having an excel spreadsheet that we have so many of, we have a tool that can help better with project timelines and recording time associated. It helps with the organization of everything.
