What problems is Mattermost solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mattermost solves the coordination nightmare of managing data products across technical and business teams. Before, I was juggling Slack for quick chats, email chains for stakeholder updates, and separate project tools for task tracking. Critical context got lost between platforms, especially when coordinating model deployments that involve data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders who all need different levels of detail.
The biggest business problem it fixes is visibility gaps during data product development. When a model needs urgent fixes or a pipeline breaks, I can loop in the right people immediately without losing technical context. Business heads can see progress without getting overwhelmed by implementation details, while technical teams can dive deep in threaded discussions. This eliminates the constant "can you update me on..." interruptions that used to fragment my day.
It's also solving our compliance headache. With sensitive customer data discussions happening across multiple tools, our security team was constantly worried about data governance. Having everything centralized and self-hosted means we control our data science conversations end-to-end, which removes a major blocker for working with regulated datasets and sharing model insights with stakeholders.
