"Easy to Use, Well-Organized Chat with Great Search and Pinning"
5/5
What do you like best about Mattermost?

It’s easy to use and it’s organized well unlike other work chat options like Slack. It’s easy to search and find messages or documents and you can pin information for later use as well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mattermost?

It’s kid of clunky sometimes as far as the typing menu goes and it may be slow to input things, but that may just be based on the connection speed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"MatterMost Review"
5/5
What do you like best about Mattermost?

Easy to work with and easy to implement and host it in the Azure cloud services. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mattermost?

I found it difficult to customize the mobile app and personalize it with my own name. It wasn't a straightforward process, so I ended up needing to hire Android developers to assist with the customization. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"one stop convenient work tool"
4/5
What do you like best about Mattermost?

Looking at Mattermost from my perspective as a data product officer, what stands out most is how it streamlines cross-functional collaboration in our data workflows.

The combination of channels, direct messaging, and task assignment features works really well when I'm coordinating between data scientists working on models, engineers handling pipeline deployments, and business stakeholders who need updates. Instead of juggling Slack, email, and separate project management tools, I can keep conversations contextual and assign specific roles or tasks right within the chat threads.

The threading feature is particularly useful during model reviews or when troubleshooting data quality issues - I can keep technical discussions organized while still giving business heads visibility into progress without overwhelming them with implementation details.

The search functionality across all channels helps when I need to reference previous decisions or find specific code snippets that were shared weeks ago. And since it's self-hosted, our security team is happy with how we handle sensitive data discussions.

The integration capabilities with our existing data stack (Jupyter, Git, monitoring tools) mean less context switching for the team. Overall, it's made our data product development cycles more transparent and collaborative across all the different roles involved. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mattermost?

The constant code formatting is my biggest pain point. I'm sharing SQL queries, Python scripts, and config files all day with data scientists and engineers. Having to wrap everything in triple backticks kills momentum during rapid debugging sessions - paste code, realize it's unreadable, edit to add formatting, repeat. It's death by a thousand cuts.

Search fails me when it matters most. In stakeholder meetings, when someone asks about a model decision from months ago, I know we discussed it but can't find it. The search is too basic - no proper filtering, no context awareness. I end up scrolling through endless channel history while everyone waits, which looks unprofessional.

Mobile is unreliable for critical moments. Data pipelines break at inconvenient times, and coordinating emergency responses from my phone is painful. Notifications are inconsistent, the interface is clunky, and I've missed production issues because alerts didn't come through properly. That's unacceptable when you're managing data products that business depends on. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable open-source tool for secure team collaboration"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Mattermost?

I like that Mattermost is open-source and offers full control over deployment and data security. It’s great for enterprises with strict compliance needs. The interface is clean, supports threaded conversations, and integrates well with DevOps tools like Jira and GitLab. Real-time messaging and file sharing are smooth, and it’s ideal for remote teams. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mattermost?

The mobile app can feel sluggish at times, and the UI, while functional, isn’t as modern or polished as Slack or Teams. Setting up integrations sometimes requires more manual work or technical knowledge. Also, onboarding new users might need better in-app guidance. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
