**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

The biggest strength of MATLAB is ease of use. It provides me with everything that I need in one place, with the best documentation and examples in the industry, and world-class data visualization. MATLAB easily saves me days of work that I might otherwise have spent configuring complex software packages. It's all-in-one and makes it easy to import my data from any source, perform arbitrarily complex processing with it's programming language of the same name, and present that data quickly and professionally. You can do everything it does with free tools, but the increased labor cost is easily weeks to get a proper environment going. MATLAB makes it easy to get working right away on complex problems.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

It can take time to learn the language, so there is a learning curve, but it's not hard to learn and training materials are included.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

Remember that MATLAB is as much about the language as it is about ease of use. It is best used for prototyping and investigative purposes, but can be used for production. Your solution should involve significant programming/data analysis and have a term long enough that writing custom code for prototyping makes sense, and your user should have some programming knowledge (although the language is extremely forgiving).

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've worked on advanced imaging systems, original research, data processing, and failure analysis using MATLAB and tools I've written for the environment.

  ### 34. Great programming software that is easy to learn and use

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Devices | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2019

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

I like how simple MATLAB is to learn and use, especially when it comes to analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

Sometimes, it can be difficult to find errors in the code and pinpoint which exact line has an issue. For instance, even though MATLAB says that line 56 has an error, the error usually lies before that line so it takes a while to find it.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Not many problems but a great benefit is the ease of use in analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.

  ### 35. MATLAB review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Susana R. | Mechanical Design Engineer, Aviation & Aerospace, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 27, 2018

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

I have used MATLAB ever since I started studying Engineering in college and still use it to this day. The thing I like best with MATLAB is how easy it is to detect where your mistakes in the code are. You are able to run specific sections of the code, so you can break it up into parts and make sure that each part is correct before moving to the next one. MATLAB also specifically marks where the error is, so it is easy to debug your code. The help function is also very good, it is easy to look for any in built function MATLAB offers.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

What I dislike about MATLAB is that it is not easy to customize plots, especially when several curves are represented in one plot and you want to make them in different colors and styles, the code can get cumbersome.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

Use the help function when needed, MATLAB has a lot of built in functions that can make your code more optimum and faster.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it in my job as an Aerospace Engineer in a major company, for anything from simple math calculations to plotting curves on the behavior of materials and structures.

  ### 36. Tried and true mainstay

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brandon T. | Mid-Level Software Engineer, Environmental Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2019

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

Lots of existing scripts and toolboxes to get things done quickly. The community that uses MATLAB is enormous. Much like Python, the time it takes to prototype is lightning fast.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

Clunky, slow, and lots of menus. The user experience between Windows and Linux is not the same. Startup time is slow, and uses lots of RAM.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

MATLAB is a good starting place for computational science users.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Weather radar calibration and monitoring. I was able to produce radar calibration without spending extra money on test equipment.

  ### 37. MATLAB is great

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

It is easy to use, has plenty of information online on how to use every aspect. It has plenty of applications in every field of STEM and has help command to help you with syntax.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

Add ons have to be downloaded separately based on your application unlike Mathematica.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Non linear constrained optimization using global search with fmincon.

  ### 38. A somewhat peculiar coding environment, with certain unique strengths

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 23, 2018

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

Good implementations of many algorithms built in (or available in toolboxes). The GPU support allows one to work almost seamlessly with GPU arrays and provides accelerated versions of many algorithms. The debugger is very powerful, allowing one to pause execution, run arbitrary code (including plotting variables and displaying images) and traverse stack frames, which I find very useful.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

It is very expensive for commercial use. The syntax is often unpleasant and has strange limitations.

Certain functionality is needlessly split across toolboxes.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

Consider if the free GNU Octave could do the job.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Computer vision applications, in particular training Deep Neural Networks using the MatConvNet toolbox. In particular the Matlab debugger is quite powerful here, since it lets you pause execution and plot variables at any point.

  ### 39. It's ideal

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

It's good especially with simulation and coding the speed is amazing .
Easy to use.
Availability of a variety of tools makes it cooler and allows easy documentation .

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

It's a bit slower if compared to others as python .
Errors are recurrent this really weighs me down.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

If you need it working fast use visual examples especially for complex problems and for control system.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's a good control system for the design required ,at least it has delivered to our expectations.

  ### 40. MATLAB Review from a frequent user

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marcos G. | Structural Designer, Aviation & Aerospace, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 24, 2018

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

MATLAB is definitely a go-to programming software for students and professionals. As an engineer myself, it is the best programming language in my opinion, due to several main reasons.

First, it is relatively easy to learn. This is also due to, in great measure, the amazing help function the software offers. Also, the possibilities are endless, you can process images and video easily, call external libraries, and read a wide variety of image formats. The codes are relatively easy to understand with some intuition and it is a language which can be learned fast.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

Even though the price is reasonable, I really wish this was an open software as it would be more accessible to students. Also, finding errors in the code in MATLAB can be tricky, I wish the software would highlight the errors better.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

Well worth the license price. If you only wish to learn one programming language, this is the one I recommend for sure. Very used in most companies.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MATLAB is used every day in an Engineering company, especially for quick tests to perform quick math estimates or calculations, mainly due to how easy it is to write a simple code.

  ### 41. Matlab

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 23, 2019

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

The ease of access of using the software. People with fairly minimal coding knowledge to experts can get easily acquainted with this software. The software is decent enough. The packages are amazing. Their support page and help is also very educational. Because of the huge amount of people using it, you will hardly face any problem that others have not faced yet.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

There is no inbuilt way to change the color of the editor. It might not be a big thing for a lot of people, but hitting yourself in the middle of the night with a bright light, is something a lot of developers and coders try to avoid. The IDE could be improved. Some of the stuff that intellisense does is what people will miss when coding on this particular IDE. The errors are usually straight forward, but sometimes they can get confusing.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

The software is pretty expensive if buying as a standalone product. Most of the licenses are either educational or given as part of an enterprise.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Computer vision. Usually handling lots of images and matrices. Lot of detection of images. Modification of images for use for transformations like Canny edge detection, Hough Transforms etc. Though Matlab can also be used in a lot of fields including designing, electrical, calculation of optimizations, machine learning, AI. This is a good product for creating a proof of concept, before an enterprise optimizes it on a different language.

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

Matlab allows the programming and automation of programs and subprocesses. It has an easy environment for a beginner user and is very powerful. Thanks to programming, you can save a lot of time at work. Programming in C++ language can help with integration with other software.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

The programming editor is a bit outdated. If you want to automate certain programming tasks, it can be a bit slow and doesn't help the user. On some occasions, this program has issues with some libraries that are marketed independently.
On some occasions, the error recognition system may give a confusing message that doesn't help clarify why the program doesn't compile.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

MATLAB allows you to optimize your work through process automation. This tool can be very useful for data processing from measurement equipment. Additionally, it has great versatility to integrate the obtained results with other programs or can be used to perform calculations after obtaining some results with other simulation equipment. It is recommended for engineering work and data processing in other fields.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This software has solved problems of solving systems of equations with multiple unknowns using matrices. Additionally, practically any engineering calculation can be implemented using integrals, derivatives, or complex numbers. There are numerous forums that can help you with any questions that arise, and pre-made programs that can solve the problem quickly and correctly.
