I like Matlab because it is a very easy tool for solving mathematical and engineering problems with a number of equation. I have also found it handy for handling big data with analyzing the required aspects. Matlab is a easy language and there is a well resourced user support from "MathWorks" which is available always on internet. Again using equation in form of matrix is a easy way to solve problems i think. I found it very fast and do correct analysis with it's functions and libraries. Moreover Matlab drive provide up to 5 GB of storage which is huge for storing the related data i think. Matlab auto processes the previous work if it is not closed intentionally. The interface and environment is well organized.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

1st of all it is bulky sometime while being opened for the first time. It is not free software and the cost is quite expensive i think. New version is found after every 6 months. But now a days MATLAB Online can be a good solution if you have good internet and a MathWorks account which will get access to the latest version.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amjad A. | Electrical Engineering Senior, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2020

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

MATLAB will be instantly familiar to anyone who has learned C++. The notation in both overlap, so anyone who is coming over to MATLAB from a software development background will instantly feel at home. It is also very useful when modelling differential equations for electrical circuits (this was one of our uses). The layout took a bit of getting used to, but once you're in the flow, you can just start typing into the window and the program will start lobbing out results in a mostly readable manner.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

I thought Excel and Photoshop were user-unfriendly when i first used them- MATLAB blows those out of the water. Not only is this one of the worst programs I've ever used, but the performance was abysmal on my AMD based machine, while it was perfectly fine on my colleague's less powerful and much older Intel machine. With the learning curve being extremely steep, the lack of optimization for AMD was just another blow which made me strongly dislike using MATLAB. Unfortunately, this was our only option as the project was based on using MATLAB.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

Please consider Maxima or GNU Octave instead of MATLAB. MATLAB performance is abysmal on AMD Ryzen because of a lack of optimization and irresponsibility on MATLAB's part and the users have to pay for their mistakes with painfully slow performance. We shouldn't have to settle for less than the best hardware because the program we need to run isn't optimized for it.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The most painless experience i had with MATLAB was initially learning how to model differential equations in it so that we could design and analyze higher order circuits. The results were self-explanatory and easy to verify. If the use case is simple, I don't mind this program.

  ### 30. Pros and Cons of MATLAB in Modeling and Computational Research

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tahsin K. | Graduate Student Research Assistant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 02, 2020

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

I like the simplicity of user interface and syntax associated with MATLAB. Unlike some other programs also favored for computational research (i.e. Fortran), MATLAB allows you to plot and create figures. It's best feature is the backslash "\" for matrices. It makes solving systems of equations with numerous variables very easy.

I also like that my functions can either be written in the same file as my main script or I can make a separate file for it. MATLAB also tends to give pretty good error messages which quickly help you figure out the issue. I do highly recommend MATLAB for creating figures.

I also use MATLAB for statistical analysis.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

My biggest peeve with MATLAB is that its indexing starts at 1, whereas most other languages start at 0. It's just something to keep in mind.

I do think there are some more benefits on the computational side for using either Python or C++, but MATLAB will still get the job done. Interestingly, a few of my professors don't really consider MATLAB to be a true programming language due to it's simplicity. It isn't the number one choice when it comes to analyzing a vast amount of data.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

It's a great program to start with if you have never programmed before!

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use MATLAB for both my graduate courses and research which fall under the area of computational modeling and image updating for pre- and post-operative medical images. We also integrate MATLAB with LabVIEW, which allows us to control our imaging devices and probes with a GUI while in the operating room.

I can analyze images while also reviewing my computational models (series of ordinary or partial differential equations). So I am essentially hitting 2 birds with one stone by using this program.

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

Matlab is a powerful tool for all programmers and analysts out there to perform very extensive data analytics with the added benefits of customizing the visualization. One of the biggest tools that caters to every member is you don’t need to have a deep knowledge on programming to with with this.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

I think this is a known issue with Matlab that it’s performance reduces over the period of time. It also gets pretty resource heavy and thus reducing the performance of applications dependent on it. It is also expensive to get a license.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

Would weigh in the pros and cons together and see if it really fits the task that you want it to accomplish! Make sure you do a thorough understanding because once you are in then it’s difficult to get out

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Matlab for optimization in our regular processes. It plays a vital role since we are switching slowly to IoT. We also have the added advantage of using it’s variety of tools for testing all the processes are working fine.

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2019

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

It is very strong. You can get inverse of 100x100 matrix or you can get the root of a 20th degree equation.. It has very wide variety of usage area.. Numerical analysis, graphic drawing, iteration, interpolation is possible with this software..

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

Random number generator gives the same numbers all the time.. The reason is that there is no external parameter such as the time of the computer or date etc.. This makes the random numbers pre-defined..

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

As an engineer, matlab is the essential program for your works. You can solve wide variety of problems with Matlab.. But you can try to write your codes without for loops as much as possible since it slows the processes..

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has build in functions. This is a very time-consuming benefit of the MATLAB. Because these build-in functions are written in C so if you try to re-write these functions, yours will be slower than the build-in ones. Especially toolboxes are very handful..

  ### 46. Powerful Data Platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

  ### 47. MATLAB: The limits are your imagination

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stephanie C. | Care Center Assistant, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 24, 2019

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

I love how you can do pretty much anything with this, it is EXCEL on steroids. It is definitely more complicated, but still user friendly if you go through enough tutorials, which the software has available on their website.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

I dislike how long you have to spend on tutorials before you can use it and it seems complicated when you first begin to use it unless you have someone helping you along the way. Sure, youtube is helpful, but with something that is this time consuming, it would be helpful to have in person reviews on how to use the feature. Once you understand matrices, it can be much simpler to use, but for very simple things I would still prefer to use excel for data input and output. Plugging into cells requires less thought than creating your own variables, but in all fairness my background is not in mathematics and I am self taught so found this to be incredibly frustrating.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

Use tutorials!

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Research processing of EMG signals during isometric contractions to demosntrates fatigue of low back muscles.

  ### 48. Functional and powerful IDE

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

Easy to set breakpoints/watchpoints and see variables at different stages in a process

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

File organization and terminal tabs can make the work/coding environment cluttered and takes up a lot of space on the screen

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

Get to know the system first by playing around with the different features and the terminal. There is a lot of functionality and features in Matlab, but it can be daunting to get used to at first.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is easy to work with matrices and data manipulation (such as transforming images and image detection)

  ### 49. Extremely powerful for R&D and industrial applications

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Richard C. | Inside Sales Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2020

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

Having used Matlab at university in my engineering undergraduate degree and briefly at work it has extensive packages and toolsets that can be used without necessarily having a background in programming. There are relatively good tutorials within and a myriad of youtube guides or articles are a click away. If one is determined it is very possible to self teach.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

To purchase outright without company / university sponsorship is not necessarily feasible. They could offer monthly subscriptions type services tailored to the user dependent on their use case. To install Matlab takes up a lot of drive space especially if including optional packages/toolkits.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

I highly recommend Matlab. It's a unique product and I cannot really think of any alternatives that fulfill the same duties.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used Matlab and Simulink to tune controllers for industrial automation applications and also coded for research and development in an oil and gas based application to assess mass and energy balances etc.

  ### 50. Good user interface and convenient to use

You don't need to be an expert coder to program anything on MATLAB. You don't need to follow a specific syntax, so it becomes easy to use even for a new bee.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

It is a bit slow processing software due to import of directories from C++

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

Start with MATLAB but keep a habit of improving and learning C++ in the future.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have done many FEM and CFD problems on MATLAB. It is just convenient to use with all the inbuilt functions and directories.
