**Reviewed by:** Vijay T. | Data Scientist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 06, 2021

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

Since I have access to the university license of MATLAB, I am able to use this software.
It reduces the project duration by a good amount of time because of features like:
1) Easy of use
2) Good IDE
3) Debugger
4) GUI support - Helps us in creating an app with simple user interfaces.
4) Great documentation (very informative, detailed, and has a lot of examples)

Apart from this, I feel that it is non-programmer friendly, i.e, a person who does not have a computer science background can easily learn this language because of its simple syntax. One can probably master it within a month or two.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

Business Disadvantages:
MATLAB is not free software. Moreover, it is expensive to purchase and renew a MATLAB license. So, people who are not affiliated with educational organizations and other big companies tend to prefer free programming languages like Python and Octave which are very similar to MATLAB.

Programming Disadvantages:
1-indexing is absolutely hated by a lot of programmers.

Tech Disadvantages:
High storage and high RAM requirements.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

If you have access to a university/academic license of MATLAB, this is the best software to use as it reduces the project duration by a good amount of time.
Or else you can consider open source alternatives such as octave.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used it for a lot of engineering projects and problems. These projects and problems mostly revolve around the areas of signal processing, image processing, data analysis.

We can easly process the things or compute or create and also simulate the videos also.
Easly invoke the external liberally.
Coming to install part, it's very easy to install and run, the software is user friendly.
At the first time using itself we can easily understand the things.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

Because of Matlab is interperted language, it takes longer to execute then compiled language such as C, C++.
When it comes to purchasing of software it's bit costly, atleast the company can give free to students by taking there required information , so that they can use the things and explore the ssoftware
Matlab uses lot of computer memories while we run heavy simulation things, sometimes it makes the computer to lag or struck

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

By using high end computers we can stop the lag or hanging the computer while we use for large simulation part.
Benefits are like it's easy to understand and use the things.

  ### 10. MATLAB Review

**Reviewed by:** Nikhil S. | Development Product Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2021

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

Easy to use, help section is very informative, detailed and has examples. Very powerful tool where you can pretty much do anything you want. Also there are a lot of resources on the internet that you can find to learn how to use MATLAB.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

Having to change the working directory every time I create a new file, instead of MATLAB defaulting to the last used folder.Sometimes there is an issue with getting a license to use and run scripts on MATLAB. I would recommend not changing the layout too much between versions of MATLAB.
I would also add the feature to have a dark themed background because I feel like it might be easier on the eyes a little. And sometimes errors show up in the command window which I feel like could be more informative on the thing that is causing the error to be able to debug the code quickly.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used it to run simulations/scripts for FEMM and it was very easy to code via MATLAB than use the scripting tool that the open-source FEMM software has.
I have realized that I can write tiny bits of code to do calculations that are very straightforward compared to manually doing them on my calculator or in my head. I also really like the ability to plot various charts when collecting data at my job and feeding them into MATLAB and creating informative plots to be able to present to a technical team and explain what is happening. The ability to overlay multiple plots on top of each other is really powerful when trying to plot data from a experiment I just ran.

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

I like the clean edge and feel of the MATLAB language. The user interface is easy to read and can be spaced out with a language that is relatively easy to read and understand, based on the coder. Also, I like that you can customize the view and window in which you are writing the script and the command window. The commenting system is effective and the features at the top with different tabs make navigating the software easier and useful for beginner coders that need to manipulate and visualize data.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

The graph editing functions are ridiculously hard to use and slow. It is also very difficult to understand what the errors mean, because they don't apply to your specific project or give any useful documentation. Also, there have been many time where errors will appear randomly even if the code wasn't changed at all. Restarting the computer would allow the code to run again, but I'll never get back the hours I spent wondering what broke it, when it was really just the software not working. The documentation is also very confusing in many places and most of the time I don't even use it since I can barely understand it. The examples are not useful most of the time.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MATLAB makes it easier to integrate and display large data sets in a way that allows users to include useful graphics in their research. Also, MATLAB is useful for creating moving mathematical figures that allow biomedical engineers to solve problems such as: weight distribution and design efficiency on bicycles, mechanics of movement for walking and anatomical considerations, and how to edit medical imaging devices in order to better identify diagnosis options for physicians.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mit S. | Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 08, 2021

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

MATLAB is really a simple programming language to understand and implement . MATLAB probably has the best documentation of all the available products. Whatever you think of doing in MATLAB you will find a very detailed documentation for it on their website. I feel I am writing a code in English when I use MATLAB as the syntax is very very simple to understand. The learning curve on this software is very steep and you can probably master within a month or two. This can be used for solving very simple problems very quickly and can also be used for complex problems like CFD/ML/AI. It also has a functionality of creating a GUI which helps the users to create their own app using MATLAB.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

The most disadvantage that one has while using MATLAB is that MATLAB is not a free software. It is very very expensive to keep a MATLAB license and therefore people tend to prefer free programming languages like Python/Octave which has similar documentation available. Also since MATLAB has a lot of libraries, it tends to be a little bit slower in computation and hence for complex problem in ML and AI where we need to train the algorithm for a number of days, people tend to use python

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

If you have access to university license of MATLAB, this is the best software to use as it reduces the project duration by a good amount of time. I would also suggest to look on the math work's website for the detailed documentation. It is very easy to search and very easy to get all the solutions

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was using MATLAB for the most of my graduate and undergraduate projects/assignments. I created a 2D thermal protection system for a rocket using MATLAB optimization. I also worked on solving basic problems in CFD using optimization methods available in MATLAB. I have 1 research paper published which is on Iso-Geometric analysis- Mesh free methods which I worked on in my internship wherein I used MATLAB. The aim of the research was to develop an meshing strategy as an alternative to traditional Finite element method. I found that it is easier to implement the entire comprehensive FEM code using MATLAB because it is very easy to write the functions in MATLAB

Matlab is a very basic, popular framework for teaching, studying and working. To do this, they can find manuals, databases, and computer codes for a broad range of applications: from simple arithmetic, to construction structures, innovative methods, data analysis, planning resources, they can find anything you need.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

Integrals, derivatives and other implications are larger than some other forms of data. Even so, you will also find that's a little challenge.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

You just have to know what applications you should use Matlab and have a number of advantages.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I solve issues such as FEA analysis, material-based analysis, processing of the data, and a range of other automotive and medical issues.
