## MATLAB Reviews
  ### 1. Matlab- outdated, unoptimized, and irrelevant

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amjad A. | Electrical Engineering Senior, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2020

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

MATLAB will be instantly familiar to anyone who has learned C++. The notation in both overlap, so anyone who is coming over to MATLAB from a software development background will instantly feel at home. It is also very useful when modelling differential equations for electrical circuits (this was one of our uses). The layout took a bit of getting used to, but once you're in the flow, you can just start typing into the window and the program will start lobbing out results in a mostly readable manner.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

I thought Excel and Photoshop were user-unfriendly when i first used them- MATLAB blows those out of the water. Not only is this one of the worst programs I've ever used, but the performance was abysmal on my AMD based machine, while it was perfectly fine on my colleague's less powerful and much older Intel machine. With the learning curve being extremely steep, the lack of optimization for AMD was just another blow which made me strongly dislike using MATLAB. Unfortunately, this was our only option as the project was based on using MATLAB.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

Please consider Maxima or GNU Octave instead of MATLAB. MATLAB performance is abysmal on AMD Ryzen because of a lack of optimization and irresponsibility on MATLAB's part and the users have to pay for their mistakes with painfully slow performance. We shouldn't have to settle for less than the best hardware because the program we need to run isn't optimized for it.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The most painless experience i had with MATLAB was initially learning how to model differential equations in it so that we could design and analyze higher order circuits. The results were self-explanatory and easy to verify. If the use case is simple, I don't mind this program.

  ### 2. A powerful but expensive tool

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2019

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

Image Analysis tools are very well developed.
MathWorks has a good community for code sharing.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

Pricing is ridiculous. Way too expensive.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

If you are just starting out in coding, use Python. It can do everything that MATLAB can, and is open-source. I use MATLAB because my existing codes are in MATLAB. I am trying to move everything to Python but have limited time so will take a while.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Image Analysis and regular simulations

  ### 3. Nice program but a bit out of fashion

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Electronics | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 25, 2019

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

The great amount of packages specific for each individual application

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

The lack of support and of a developed community

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mainly using it for signal processing

  ### 4. Best to create virtual environments

**Reviewed by:** yojana r. | RPA Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 07, 2019

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

Matlab is very essential scientific environment which is very useful for students and working people.Especially to write the fuzzy logic's and Neural Network logic. It intuitive way of programming which made easy to use all of its futures and variable declarations. Gui window is very useful to manage . One can easily switch between gui and code.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

First main problem with the matlab is it is not open source like other platforms. Some of the other issue with the matlab is graphs

  ### 5. Worst programming interface

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 02, 2019

**What do you like best about MATLAB?**

I liked how you could lay over the code from the output, it was a nice mirror effect that you could see. I also liked how your code and layout could be seen on the left hand side, serving as sort of an outline.

**What do you dislike about MATLAB?**

The interface is completely outdated. It doesn't look good at all and is kind of confusing to navigate through. I wasn't a huge fan while I was using it, and it does run slow and takes up a lot of space.

**Recommendations to others considering MATLAB:**

Definitely use it if you're dealing with problems that rely heavily on numbers. However, if your'e trying to code anything else, it's useless.

**What problems is MATLAB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MATLAB helps with coding for different projects or systems that you are running. It was beneficial in analyzing data as a whole.
