What do you like best about Mathematica?

Easy to learn but capable of very sophisticated operations and functionality. You can control threading, for example. The native functions are indicated by their capitalization. Symbols can be used (like Greek letters) as variables. Formatting options make complex expressions easier to follow. Interactive graphics -- you can give a seminar using a Mathematica notebook to illustrate your discussion. Image processing power added in the last ~5 years is impressive. Great support community, including example notebooks showing physical, biological, engineering, etc. processes and ideas. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Mathematica?

Commenting style mildly annoying. In general I like being able to expand or collapse sections but sometimes it gets confusing. Sometimes when it's buggy you just need to quit & restart the kernel. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Mathematica:

Try Wolfram Alpha's site and see what you think. The full Mathematica has similar language but (of course) far more options and capabilities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Mathematica solving and how is that benefiting you?

We take and analyze data from lab experiments using Mathematica. Most of our data is images. We turn the images into arrays, manipulate them, extract calculations and information from them, then turn them into other plots and images. Also great for use with intern students and courses since it's easy to learn. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
