**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mining & Metals | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2018

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

Editable layouts, Handles small workspaces quite well, tool search bar is useful

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

Lost batch surface utilities, slower than old version when using large workspaces, the ribbon interface is ok for some aspects but when constantly having to change insert object types and style types becomes tedious. Takes a while to find tools in the ribbon interface

**Recommendations to others considering MapInfo Pro:**

Consider what software other clients or data suppliers are using in regards to data formats and suitability for mapinfo.

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Integrated spatial analysis

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2019

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

Ease of use and functionality for making GIS accessible for first time to professional users.

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

Licencing costs are too expensive compared to other products

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 4. Easy for GIS newcomers

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Environmental Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2018

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

User friendly, was very easy to come from Esri's software and begin using Mapinfo Pro. Digitizing and shapefile management are very intuitive. Tables and metadeta and very easy to edit.

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

Copying elements from layout to layout can cause crashes. Software slows when opening older workspaces. Not as many tools offered in base software, they have to be found and registered.

**Recommendations to others considering MapInfo Pro:**

Less spatial analysis than Esri products. Digitizing and shapefile management is very intuitive.

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Vehicle routing, site location, geocoding.

  ### 5. Simple effective analysis

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mining & Metals | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2018

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

Ease of use
Speed of analysis
Development of software based on user comments

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

The requirement to create a "map window" which then becomes superfluous and unrelated to a layout once placed in a layout window. You should either allow the layout to be updated by subsequent changes in the map window (or vice versa), or allow the user to create the map completely within the layout from the word go if they prefer.

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

mineral exploration targets

  ### 6. Flood modelling- Mapinfo

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civil Engineering | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2018

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

Its easy to handle layers.
Labelling the features is really friendly.
It comes with discrete interfaces for every actions/processes

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

There are very few features which are a bit time consuming. For Ex: we cant load in a ASCII file directly, it has to be converted into other MapInfo supported files.

**Recommendations to others considering MapInfo Pro:**

It is really friendly user interface

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Any GIS operations
Flood modelling

  ### 7. Mapinfo Grid manipulation capabilities

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civil Engineering | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2018

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

The quick Grid processing and interpolation (triangulation)

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

Editing vector data tool and spatial editing tool, I feel they were better placed with older versions 15.0 and before now it feels like you have to search for tools which make simple editing bit more complex

**Recommendations to others considering MapInfo Pro:**

Improvement required spatial editing tools and their accessibility

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Flood Maps and results processing (asc grids)

  ### 8. Great software for doing GIS analysis

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

Application of Vertical Mapper plugin & usage of spacial queries. Also format convertion and vector calculations and easier in Map Info.

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

Editing model is a bit slower. Nodes representaion is small. Always conversion of mif to tab & back, is painfull

**Recommendations to others considering MapInfo Pro:**

Good & easy software to use

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Doing Flood modelling analysis & mitigation measures. Flood Mapping & Raster calculations

  ### 9. Used a Few Versions Up Till 12.5 and Moved On

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Market Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 10, 2018

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

Wide range of GIS capabilities. Good for one off modeling.

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

I've used multiple versions of this software extensively at my current job, up till version 12.5. Haven't purchased a newer version, since we use mostly in house software now. Biggest problem is it's very slow at rendering maps and aggregating data. The method it uses for proportion sums, for instance, appears to rerun the proportion calculation even when running the same proportion across multiple data columns.

**Recommendations to others considering MapInfo Pro:**

If you're interested in MapInfo Pro, do a trial and see if the latest version is improved. We pretty much gave up on them after 12.5. It seemed Pitney Bowes bought them and forgot about them, although I can't speak to version 16.

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Geographic market modeling. My work centers primarily around geographic market modeling. We used MapInfo for years to run all our models.

  ### 10. MapInfo Pro Review

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Utilities | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 02, 2017

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

The best thing about MapInfo Pro is that you can create maps that work completely offline and distribute them through the free MapInfo Proviewer software. The cost is a lot lower than other GIS software.

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

I dislike that the editing options and cartographic options are not as customizable as in other desktop GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro. Offline basemap options are severely limited and you have to pay extra for a lot of services that come free with other software. While the cost is a lot lower than other software, I think it's only worth it if you need low-cost offline maps. It is unclear whether the free viewer will still be supported in the future as well. I have heard mixed stories from their associates and companies representing them.

**Recommendations to others considering MapInfo Pro:**

Only use this if you need cheap maps that work offline on a PC.

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use MapInfo Pro because it works offline and there is a free viewer. There is a lot of cost savings in areas where there is no Internet access.

  ### 11. Not the latest and greatest, but can be sufficient for basic needs

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Market Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 10, 2018

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

Modals do a good job of walking users through the querying process, but the MapBasic code can be a huge time saver once you see how it is used.

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

UI can be a bit slow and clunky. Also, the learning curve is fairly steep (but that goes with any GIS tool).

**Recommendations to others considering MapInfo Pro:**

It is definitely not the market leader in the GIS space. It seemed to be really strong in the 90s, but has fallen behind many alternatives now. It is sufficient for basic operations, but it isn't very flashy or especially easy or nice to use.

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have tackled GIS modeling problems with MapInfo Pro. There is no substitute for a GIS program.

  ### 12. big data

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2017

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

it can show massive bulk of data on our map

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

it is not easy to use as a standard user

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Big data, routing, showing objects on a map

  ### 13. Great GIS tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2017

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

Great mapping tool, easy to work with a*

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

Integration between traditional desktop tool with the platform is confusing

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating custom maps for bi projects

  ### 14. Tool use to convert kmls to different file formats

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aaron T. | Business Process Analyst 3, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2016

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

MapInfo allows us to convert .kml files to .tab, .dat, and .map files for software that requires this file format.

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

The process can be tedious and confusing. it may be due to lack of familiarity with map tools in general. There are a lot of icons/buttons that add to the confusion

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Some of our software requires the use of file formats such as .dat, .map. and .tab.

  ### 15. mapping information ,, GIS ,,

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zaher M. | Architectural stuff - Freelancer, Architecture & Planning, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 08, 2016

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

how to map the database to the cordinate system and demonstraeing them on the map ,,, actully there is a lot of programs doing that , but there is a lot of features in here let us draw , edit and customize things ,
database and metadata which connected to the objects which located on map is very nice in this program .

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

well , its a long list ,, inspite of a lot of flexebeilty with Mapbasic ,, there is a limitation when u use a network lecince ,, for example , hot keys , shortcust is suck in here , so i wrote a script which is good in my home ,, but i cant use it in my work because of the server thing , so if i put that in server it would affect all useres ,,

more important is navigationnnnnnnnn in this program which is very very very bad ,,
selcet , zoom , deselect , pan , every basic tool , need 3 or 4 clicks with mouse to do it , which can be sooo easy ,, i think its really not hard for the developer in there to develope the navigation system , they could just do it right , give more hot keys ,, like adobe photoshop or autocad ,,,i think they have a lot to deal with in this field .

symbole , legende ,, maßstab ,, :(

**Recommendations to others considering MapInfo Pro:**

try the demo ,, or beta version first ,,,
navigation are suck ,, illestrating the symbols and layout ,,, legende ,, alot of small things annouying me because its simple to fix or develop , and they just keep ignoring it ,

u should learn something in mapbasic which is a scripting language and can help a lot ,

the program can be customized , new tools that meet ur requierment ,, developing "plugins" can be done with mapbasic,,

plotting and printg system need a lot of work too ,, test all these , if u satesfy ,, go for it ;) ,

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we doing a lot of stuff , mapinfo have a lot of realations and workspaces that we created to locate every things on a map ,
so if its empty houses and we want a plan for it , we will just add this information to the object , locate where are they and they we have it ,

  ### 16. Good product for GIS editting

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gregory K. | Professional Services Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2016

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

Map Info Pro helps us adjust fixed route trace route traces and map layers. It gets the job done although it's not my favorite tool to use.

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

Map info pro is great if your an expert. It can be hard to pick it up as a beginner user

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We need to maintain and update fixed route bus traces on a maps for internal and public facing tools

  ### 17. Truly the best software out there for Mapping

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2017

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

Thoroughly adapted Industry adapted, almost used by 100% of professionals around the world in telecom.

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

Need more in build tools specifically developed towards telecom use cases such as converting mapfiles to kmls, creating sector pie's and auto zoom functionality to adjust pie sizes based on site density.

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We mostly use this software to visualize cell cites (Mobile towers), Mapinfo is almost irreplaceable in telecom.

  ### 18. Used extensively during mineral exploration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paul T. | Assistant Project Manager, Site Investigation, Construction, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2016

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

Great piece of software overall. Relatively easy to use with a simple interface and a good array of features. Made my analysis of soil assay result interpretation a lot easier and quicker than if they had had to be drawn out by hand (always did a random review as a verification test of the software though).

Importing of data in various formats was not too arduous (although I only ever stuck with csv to limit potential problems).

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

Outputting of files to pdf (particularly gridded soil analysis or assay results) was never a quick process, regardless of which machine I had the software installed on.

Scales were always off - I'm sure this can be solved but I have yet to find out how to do it.

The 3D plugin is of limited use - there are pieces of software out there that do it much better.

Handling of very large data sets is not fantastic and could be improved. Can be got around slightly by utilising only CSV files but this can be tiresome.

**Recommendations to others considering MapInfo Pro:**

Not as polished and the output isn't as aesthetic as those produced with Arch, but overall much more simple to use and with the majority of the same functionality.

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Used to predominantly assess and interpret the concentrations of various minerals and metals in soil samples. Saved a lot of time over plotting the results by hand. Had limited functionality in being able to drape said results and grids of terrain models but the ability of placing other pertinent geospatial data was very useful.

  ### 19. ArcMap's Ugly Cousin

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2016

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

I like that it creates "ok" maps. Not as expensive as Esri products.

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

Definitely the ugly cousin of ESRI's ArcMap. Glitchy, clunky, but can get the job done.

**Recommendations to others considering MapInfo Pro:**

If you'll be doing a lot of mapping and particularly want to have presentation quality maps, I would highly recommend ESRI's ArcMap over MapInfo.

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

visualizing data across geographies.

  ### 20. MapInfo Pro

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 07, 2015

**What do you like best about MapInfo Pro?**

MapInfo Pro makes using SQL Queries to select certain network elements from my company's large fiber plant simple.

**What do you dislike about MapInfo Pro?**

While my usage of MapInfo is limited to a small portion of what it can do, I have yet to encounter any issues.

**What problems is MapInfo Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I mainly use MapInfo Pro to carve up a database containing many network elements in my company's large fiber plant.
