**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 16, 2018

**What do you like best about MadCap Flare?**

The amount of functionality is impressive with the application. The help documentation is useful some times.

**What do you dislike about MadCap Flare?**

Flare is a memory hog and you cannot run multiple versions of Flare without bogging down your computer. With the latest releases, the Madcap QA testing doesn't seem as thorough as it was previously. If you contact support, they are inclined to say it's the user's fault and there is never a bug in the application. They are slow to add features if one or two users request the functionality.

**What problems is MadCap Flare solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to create documents, view the back-end code, as well as publish documentation.

**What problems is MadCap Flare solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our company develops very agile software to keep up with school's district, state, and federal reporting requirements. When I started developing documentation 18 years ago, the MS Word/paper manuals lagged behind development by at least a year and the online help files lagged even more. When we started using RoboHelp single-source, things improved as I could write the online help then produce the files for the paper output (with a LOT of hand adjustment). But RoboHelp development of new features slowed at the same time technology changes were accelerating. When Flare come out, we acquired it and the lagged time shrank dramatically. Now I can release both online help and PDF manuals the same day as the latest release. With the advent of responsive design, one file suffices for both desktop and mobile; the PDF output requires only the addition of a cover page with NO hand adjustments. Bliss!

  ### 50. Best program out there - when it works

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Philo C. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 12, 2017

**What do you like best about MadCap Flare?**

The ability to have different styles and inclusions and master pages for different outputs is great. The format is mostly non proprietary, which has benefits.

**What do you dislike about MadCap Flare?**

The program is one of the more buggy ones I've owned over the past ten years, and deficiencies will carry over for multiple updates. Tech support is only fair, and not that good unless you purchase the more expensive platinum plan.

**Recommendations to others considering MadCap Flare:**

Watch out for bugs

**What problems is MadCap Flare solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PDF print and kindle outputs.
