## MacPractice MD Reviews
  ### 1. Fast, Easy-to-Train EDR with Customizable Forms and Planmeca 2D/3D Support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Henry L. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 31, 2026

**What do you like best about MacPractice MD?**

The software is very quick when compared to other server based or cloud based EDRs. All forms can be custom designed or integrated. There is a window with tabs that allows quick access to forms. Wired Ethernet works better than wireless. It is Planmeca 2D and 3D friendly. It is a very easy software to train staff or temp hygienist on.

**What do you dislike about MacPractice MD?**

The concerns that Valsoft will be sold or purchased by another larger software vendor (ex. Henry Schein) and they will force us to change to a new EDR. Secondly, since their merger with Valsoft, the customer service reps are not as knowledgeable and need to have call backs from their techs.

**What problems is MacPractice MD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They have easy access to billing, patient communications (texting), and it is very rare that the system requires rebooting or goes down.

  ### 2. MacPractice Does Basics But Is Outdated with Limited Integrations, Labor-Intensive Billing

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Craig E. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 18, 2026

**What do you like best about MacPractice MD?**

Stable platform overall, but Valsoft still hasn’t fixed some longstanding MacPractice bugs. At this point, there really aren’t any new things I like, because MP doesn’t seem to be developing or adding new features within the software.

**What do you dislike about MacPractice MD?**

No new feature development within the core software. Do some development and create new modern features (that any SAAS EHR now has) and fix broken ones, like reporting bugs. Fix non-functioning insurance benefits checks. Fix estimating feature. Introduce API interfacing; it's impossible to create automated or streamlined processes with other services that could save time because MP is server based and there is no possibility for 2 way data transfer in and out of MP to other service platforms.

Little of what's been offered in the past 7 years has been useful at all. We don't need your billing services. Your AI dictation platform didn't work, though the dictation sales person couldn't understand this and kept trying to sell us on additional services, which didn't work and which we didn't need.

Another problem is that to back up the MacPractice database offsite is expensive and requires fiber optic upload speeds ($$). Our Mac Studios (required to run MP) have USB port problems that make on site backup impossible. Macs are not a good business caliber platform.

Also, the backups take hours and restores take the better part of a day. This means we can't get MP up and going quickly if we have a server or database failure. Not a well designed process for any business that operates every day.

**What problems is MacPractice MD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mainly, MacPractice provides a stable software platform, that allows us to maintain clinical operations. I would expect any AHR to do this, but I think MacPractice is probably as good or better than most at the basic functions. It does not solve any problems per se, and we've had to use outside vendors or hire extra staff to do that. In short, I'm solving most of my own problems right now.

  ### 3. Mac Practice

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pam C. | Practice Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2024

**What do you like best about MacPractice MD?**

The system is user friendly. Easy to navigate

**What do you dislike about MacPractice MD?**

Its basicallyPDFs uploaded into a system

**What problems is MacPractice MD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used to use Mac practice and then changed EMR systems. Mac Practice did not pass us on our Risk assessment with ISMIE.

  ### 4. Good System but could be better

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jennifer F. | BILLING CONSULTANT, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2021

**What do you like best about MacPractice MD?**

I like how you can customize your settings. I like the way you can navigate through the system.

**What do you dislike about MacPractice MD?**

I dont like that the system cannot track user actions. I wouldn't say I like their bulk insurance upload. Other systems have this action better. They have system issues with Change Healthcare clearinghouse more frequently than other systems.

**What problems is MacPractice MD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Working Medical claims and patient accounts.

  ### 5. MacPractice MD Administrator

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sunney S. | Senior Sql Server developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 11, 2022

**What do you like best about MacPractice MD?**

1.It is very helpful to manage health organization.
2.This software has auto analysis features to provide requiredinformation.
3. It provodes charts for better analysis and review.
4. The shortcut keys provide quick access.

**What do you dislike about MacPractice MD?**

The user interface is not very intuitive. It requires trainning to administer and get real benifit. It will be great if it provide macro feature as we do in excel also microphone input can help a lot.

**Recommendations to others considering MacPractice MD:**

MacPractice MD is very helpful product to analyse and review the client history. It can help to summarize.

**What problems is MacPractice MD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It requires knowledge and experience to use its features. However, it is very helpful to manage client data. This software is a life saviour. It can keep track of client history and provides better analysis.

  ### 6. Mac Practice may not be for everyone

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2021

**What do you like best about MacPractice MD?**

I like the EMR side the best. There are other ones out there as well.

**What do you dislike about MacPractice MD?**

The lack of reporting. Also, you can edit anything in this system. By edit I mean, you can delete charges and payments. This is a huge issue. There is no auditing tool for charges.

**Recommendations to others considering MacPractice MD:**

View the information available to see if this system is right for you.

**What problems is MacPractice MD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Healthcare information

  ### 7. No effective customer service

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 07, 2021

**What do you like best about MacPractice MD?**

This is NOT a Best situation. MacPractice has become much worse. Have used the original software when it was MediMac. the fact that I have to take so many step to leave a review has nothing to do with safety. It is all about making it difficult to prvide reviews.

**What do you dislike about MacPractice MD?**

Service - the lack of IT service. The need to be held hostage hoping/waiting for IT to return a call. If MP returns a call and you do not pick up the call from MacPractice, you get recycled until "someone" from MP calls back. You are directed to the CHAT function which is not what consumers that are paying thousands of dollars for customer suport.

**What problems is MacPractice MD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MacPractice needs better receptionists. The hired off-site people are useless. MacPractice needs more IT people.

  ### 8. User friendly for Apple

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 26, 2021

**What do you like best about MacPractice MD?**

Helped me learn to use a Mac or Apple computer. Was easy to learn

**What do you dislike about MacPractice MD?**

Font was very small. The insurance portions were slightly confusing at first regarding primary benificiary and dependants. Only used with apple or mac computers, so its a big change if you're not familiar with Apple layout or keystrokes.

**Recommendations to others considering MacPractice MD:**

If you use Apple or Mac compuyers this is user friendly. If you primarily use Microsoft it may take some time to become fmiliar with how to navigate or input data.

**What problems is MacPractice MD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data entry is more complete, it notifies you if there is an incomplete entry.

  ### 9. Good for what it is, but expensive

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chad C. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 03, 2018

**What do you like best about MacPractice MD?**

The interface was good and it's one of the best I've seen for mac operating systems.

**What do you dislike about MacPractice MD?**

It didn't allow for the types of reports I needed to print out for evaluating my key performance indicators. I also didn't like that when switching to a new software, you have to manually download each individual case for each patient. There are no batch or bulk downloads of patient files.

**Recommendations to others considering MacPractice MD:**

not a bad consideration, expensive and difficult to work with if you ever decide to leave.

**What problems is MacPractice MD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This helped the requirement for electronic medical records. It did it's job certainly, but it wasn't my favorite product.

  ### 10. User friendly

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** salma e. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 16, 2018

**What do you like best about MacPractice MD?**

The interface is aesthetically pleasing. It is easy to use and intuitive especially if you are an Apple/Mac user. Training employees to use it is easy as well. It has so many functions I know I can do more with it than I already am. For physicians documentation is quick, it has built in dictation. It is meaningful use certified. Their support is vey good and helpful. I’ve been using it for 6 years and very happy with it

**What do you dislike about MacPractice MD?**

Updates are time consuming. It is not PCMH certified. Reports are good but I wish it can do more, especially with clinical reports.

**Recommendations to others considering MacPractice MD:**

Excellent EMR. High

**What problems is MacPractice MD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Patient scheduling, EMR, billing and AR.

  ### 11. Look fits Apple environment, usability could be better

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Devices | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 19, 2018

**What do you like best about MacPractice MD?**

Very clean looking UI on the desktop/server

**What do you dislike about MacPractice MD?**

iPad apps UI needs a huge redesign for both functionality improvements and appearance.

**Recommendations to others considering MacPractice MD:**

Be careful running this in an remote environment. Enterprise level network resources are needed to support it fully.

**What problems is MacPractice MD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The software can be customized to fit our client's very specific needs for scalability. We were able to add our own customized billing codes to have MacPractice also manage our billing aspects to avoid using a secondary product.

  ### 12. MacPractice from the Urgent Care Perspective

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jillian L. | Bill Review Analyst, Medical Practice, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 04, 2018

**What do you like best about MacPractice MD?**

We purchased Mac practice MD when starting up our urgent care practice here in Anchorage Alaska in 2014. The software is incredibly user-friendly, intuitive and even a practice management novice can’t easily navigate the system. From a billing perspective, the ledger is super easy to read and the built in billing software He is very simple. I especially enjoy the reports functions.

**What do you dislike about MacPractice MD?**

Installing updates is quite a cumbersome task. Our practice is open 12 hours a day seven days a week and some of the major system updates require a lot of time to install which means there have been times we have had to open the clinic late or close early to install the updates.

**What problems is MacPractice MD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Patient account management, including A/R and electronic claims filing; EHR/EMR, outside lab interface.

  ### 13. Easy to use

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about MacPractice MD?**

Self explanatory. Within one day, I was able to figure out how to navigate the system. I also love that it was very customizable.

**What do you dislike about MacPractice MD?**

The system constantly froze up and gave what we called "the wheel of death".

**What problems is MacPractice MD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tracking patient appointments was easy with the feature that allows you to filter appointment types and doctors.

  ### 14. MacPractice

What I like best about MacPractice is it’s easy to use compared to other programs in my field of work.

**What do you dislike about MacPractice MD?**

Nothing I can say negative.. if I had to say one thing negative it would be the area where the treatment is put in maybe have pre set codes

**Recommendations to others considering MacPractice MD:**

Very easy to use, the layout and design of the system is great.

**What problems is MacPractice MD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

From entering patient information to reports at the end of the day,, it makes things easy finding the mistakes that I have made .

It is an Apple based product so the platform is easy for myself, an Apple user.

**What do you dislike about MacPractice MD?**

The program can be incredibly slow. Loading patient EMRs can take minutes.

**What problems is MacPractice MD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is easier to work with than most other EMRs on the market. It is very user friendly.

  ### 16. Clean and Easy EMR for Macs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Karmelo N. | Client Success Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about MacPractice MD?**

I love the integration of Apple's cleanliness along with the power of MacPractice. Very customizable for every doctor's office.

**What do you dislike about MacPractice MD?**

There's a feature where you can only log-in on one computer at a time. If this occurs, you are immediately booted.

**What problems is MacPractice MD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are a Mac office, we needed an EMR that can utilize this. Everything is streamlined now.
