But once you're in the driving seat, it's far more powerful than ordinary spreadsheets. **What problems is Lucanet solving and how is that benefiting you?** I needed to create a financial model / projection of the business for 3 years for a funding round. ### 3. I use it to model the cost of software build in PaaS. Thanks to Causal, my models are easy to maintain and share as dashboards to non-technical users. New features and improvements are frequently released with good documentation and tutorials. **What do you dislike about Lucanet?** The only thing that I would like is better sharing capabilities and the possibility of creating folders to organise my models. I'm sure something like that is on the roadmap, and I'm excited to try it. **What problems is Lucanet solving and how is that benefiting you?** The main problem that causal solves is the maintainbility of my models. It's also a lot faster to generate visuals to share with non-technical people. ### 4. I was really excited to give Causal a go with a view to implement it in an organisation of more than 300 employees. I signed up and requested a call as per their offered request form. It was scheduled with the founder Taimur. The guy didn't show up in the meeting as I recall, and I rescheduled through his calendar, the guy didn't show up even the second time. Between the two invites I even dropped him an email to figure out if he was serious about this. I got one of the worst replies which was full of arrogance. It read something like he wasn't going to be able to have a call because he doesn't consider it worth his time. And as an icing to the humiliation I felt, he had the audacity to saw please email me your questions and I will try to respond to those via email. This was enough for me to realise no matter how good a product they create, they are not destined for success until they fix their attitude towards customers and potential customers. My pro trial expired and I advise over 5 tech companies and I will never support a transition to Causal because of these series of unforgiveable experiences as a customer. I would rather have a half decent product but deal with a vendor who is humble. **Recommendations to others considering Lucanet:** Always look for partners who will treat you as partners and not trash. **What problems is Lucanet solving and how is that benefiting you?** Never got a chance to utilise because of the bad customer service. I lost trust that they feel they are sitting on some superior product than Excel and that will magically get them customers, but years of startup experience teaches me its never just about the product but the attitude as well. ### 5. The ability to see data populating easily and quickly on the screen without having to spend ages building formulas and iterate is impressive. **What do you dislike about Lucanet?** The tool is yet to provide a full comprehensive set of use cases to cover the wide range of potential it has. It's great for financial analysis but I see it useful in many other contexts like medical & projection-based scenarios. **What problems is Lucanet solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have a set of excel template financial analyses we use to project acquisition and do stress testing on different scenarios. I can see the tool replacing those templates and become the business' tool of choice for financial analysis. ### 6. Models built in a Jupyter notebook are inaccessible for anyone without programming experience. It brings an evolved approach to handling how one thinks about formulas and forecasting, growing from the basic functions of excel. The way it is structured makes it incredibly easy to build out formulas and also reduce the risk of formula errors for large spreadsheets/models. The best feature however is the presentation mode which allows stakeholders to change values and see the model and charts to update in real time, without actually overriding the model. This is really helpful for management teams to play with different scenarios when doing planning. The charts and tables, unlike excel, are incredibly easy to build, allowing you to quickly put together a board or management reporting pack. Lastly, the integration with Xero and other accounting/sales packages makes data comparison and extraction much quicker and simpler. In addition to allowing for the creation of budget to actual graphs with the click of a button. **What do you dislike about Lucanet?** Like most software, there is the element of a learning curve, coupled with the fact that you have to think slightly differently than excel. However after you start using the product, it is incredibly straightforward the more and more you use it. **Recommendations to others considering Lucanet:** Consider using it if you are currently building your forecasts, budgets, models, etc. in Excel. **What problems is Lucanet solving and how is that benefiting you?** Forecasting and modelling for investors, management teams, and boards. It has also allowed us to create our annual budget and can be used as a mechanism for tracking budget to actual (since it pulls data from Xero). ### 8. It's very powerful, yet so easy to use. I can create all of my financial models much more easily than Excel or Google Sheets. I really like how I can add ranges rather than absolute values and this propogates elegantly through the model. **What do you dislike about Lucanet?** It's hard to find something that's at fault. The guys at causal are extremely helpful if there is ever a problem. I'm sure there are some bells and whistles that could be added, but I can see the product improving all the time. **What problems is Lucanet solving and how is that benefiting you?** I create complex financial models in Causal for my business to make better deisions when there is uncertainty around some of the variables. For example, I use Causal for complex pricing models for customers. In these scenarios, I don't know exactly how much activity a customer will make ahead of time, but I can just throw this into Causal as a distribution based on my preliminary research and get meaningful insights out. This process takes minutes and empowers my entire team to make better decisions in the face of an increasing competitive environment! ### 10. In Causal, I can do scenario modeling and use dynamic ranges as variables. For instance, if I am forecasting potential expenses, I can use a range (3-5%) as a growth rate variable, and the model builds that range into all of the calculations that use that variable. The charts and graphs are simple yet elegant. We've found that Causal is a great way to give a presentation. We use it to build financial models for our clients. With this tool, we can reduce our reliance on Excel for relatively simple modeling. The result is that our models are more accessible for the non-native excel end-users and our presentations are more collaborative and engaging. **What do you dislike about Lucanet?** It's a new tool; as with any innovative tool, it will take time to build out all the needed integrations. But I think the product is good enough to use daily and well worth waiting for product improvements. **What problems is Lucanet solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's much more interaction for end users, especially if they are not working in Excel all day. Like any non-excel tool, it's a bit different from what you'll be used to. We can build models in hours that would normally take weeks to build in spreadsheets. **What problems is Lucanet solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have a very complex, multiline revenue model that varies greatly by market segment members. For example, hospital systems, insurance companies, staffing firms, and telehealth firms all have different consumtion and utilization patterns with our business. With Causal, we were able to easily build those dynamics into our model and see realistic projections of revenue and margins over time without having to develop "waterfalls" and whatnot across dozens of tabs. ### 16. Life has been so easy without having to drag formula and identify the cells to make change and create ways to add text for explanation. Causal takes away all the complexity of creating a model by offering the canvas to create variables and interactive charts to sum up the story. **What do you dislike about Lucanet?** Nothing till now.
