## About Lookback
Next-generation UX research platform for mobile & desktop

## Lookback Reviews
 ### 1. Bugs and having to install a plug-in make it inconvenient

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Demet E. | UX Researcher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 22, 2022

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

I like that we can invite our own users for usability testing, whether moderated or not. I like that it records the sessions and stores them. It is convenient to be able to create different projects and add descriptions.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

Users have a lot of difficulty with the plug-in, which sometimes causes no-shows. I found out that some of the users came to the session, but we could not see each other for some reason.

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We currently use Lookback for interviews but we are planning on using it for recruiting our users for usability tests by embedding the the link. This will help us channel our resources by reducing the time spent recruiting users.

 ### 2. Great tool for interview capturing

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** S Y. | UX Researcher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 01, 2022

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

I never had any difficulty navigating through Lookback. The UI is easy to figure out, it's easy to integrate into other platforms, video is easy to analyze and splice.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

Lookback is a remote user interview tool, that does what it's supposed to do well.
When we were using it they didn't offer a transcription tool that would have been valuable to have but they may have upgraded it since we used it a couple years ago.

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It was an excellent preliminary UX tool, but we moved on to other platforms that offered more holistic solutions.

 ### 3. A great tool for getting the whole team onboarded on the user side

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Noemi 🌸 B. | Community Leader (Berlin) , Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 14, 2022

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

What I like the most is that many people can observe the interviews live and comment on what is happening with the interviewer.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

nothing in particular. Maybe some more features could be added to ease the technical problems on the team side (poor connection for example)

**Recommendations to others considering Lookback:**

It is easy to use and you will have the feeling that user interviews are not rocket science!

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Lookback shorten the distance between the scrum teams and the discovery work, as it puts in the loop everyone very easily.

 ### 4. Great for observation by multiple team members

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Taylor J. | User Experience Researcher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2021

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

My favorite feature was that a participant during a user interview has no idea how many other observers are there. It's so valuable for team members (designers, engineers, product, etc.) to hear things directly from users during a testing session; however, in some tools, they can see every person on the call. When they see all of those names, they sometimes clam up and aren't as open with their feedback during a research session.

I also loved the ability to communicate directly with observers in the tool.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

Some users had trouble getting into a session through the tool. They needed to download the app and allow several permissions before they were connected with me. Without another contact method (which I usually didn't have because of PII concerns), it wasn't easy to troubleshoot. When I sent out a 1-page PDF with step-by-step instructions and screenshots of what to do, that helped a bit.

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Key benefit is a tool with high-quality video that allows me to have multiple observers without compromising the research quality.

I'm using Lookback to conduct user testing sessions (mostly usability and concept tests).

 ### 5. Great tool for remote usability testing!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jason B. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2020

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

When lookback works, it's absolutely perfect!

Most users go through the installation process just fine because of the clear instructions.

Audio and video are usually pretty clear (but this depends on the user's bandwidth).

I LOVE the notes with timestamping and the ability to have observers go back and rewatch sessions!

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

When a user is even *slightly* tech illiterate, or there are bandwidth issues, lookback suffers from the same problems as every other similar service.

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use lookback mainly for remote usability testing for new software.

 ### 6. User Testing through Lookback

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Antonis R. | User Experience Researcher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2020

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

The moderated sessions, it has a nice panel for interviews.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

Technical issues arise. Also there is no good categorization for highlighting.

**Recommendations to others considering Lookback:**

Very nice tool just for doing your user interviews. Also it can support unmoderated sessions. Be careful though, not good analysis afterwards. I would thoroughly recommend it if you are conducting interviews as it is one really value for money tool, compared to other options in the market.

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I run the user testing sessions for my company. It is a simple and value for money tool.

 ### 7. IDI's made easy

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Beatriz R. | UX Researcher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2019

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

The possibility to record and have other people from the team watching it live

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

The experience with the mobile version has not been so positive

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When research users you can record and watch it later to analise it in details. It's a good way to work in case you don't have anyone to make notes during the interview.

 ### 8. Most cost effective User Testing platform for small teams

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joachim G. | UX Manager, Internet, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 10, 2019

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

My favorite feature is the ability to bookmark certain timestamps of recorded sessions and add notes. Our UXR then goes in to compile all this qualitative data into our UX Research repository for easy search of terms associated to certain features we were testing at the time.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

I wish there was a desktop notification through the browser letting us know that a user has joined and is waiting for the facilitator to start.

**Recommendations to others considering Lookback:**

I would recommend trying it out first. once you have a session recorded, change the speed of the playback so you can review your footage and notes a lot more efficiently.

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have a small team of 7 UX Designers, UI Designers and UX Researchers that share the tasks of research in our company. Lookback lets us curate UX test sessions in an organized manner by providing tools for us to show user sentiment (camera on user) as well as share their screen. In addition to that we are able to input notes (qualitative data) right on the video via timestamps. I really like the highlight feature because these are the types of reactions we want to show our executives and stakeholders to help us defend our rationale.

 ### 9. Usability test done without physical hardware requirements

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeff R. | Head of Product and UX, Media Production, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2018

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

What I like the most about using lookback is while watching all the usability test recording is to add comments right on the seekback while watching and examining the videos. The fact that you can record screen and your camera facing the user is absolutely what I like the most in lookback. I can easily download twi version of the recordings, screen-shot and user facing the camera.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

Unfortunately lookback does NOT yet support any big screen/ smart TV as well as Apple for recording. We are a cross platform subscription service and would love to get this future available for us. In addition while sharing recorded videos with other teammates, its asking for additional fees. Sometimes video would go black and white and I know how to fix it. You no longer support Mac lookback application which I have more confident in using it while recording.

**Recommendations to others considering Lookback:**

For beginners this would be a fast and easy way to start user testing, remotely and without even an official lab.

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are subscription based OTT service and monthly payment is required for our service. however making this commitment for the user is a brand new experience which we have to challenge our branding and sign-up process to gain their trust. User lookback while introducing new features, one of the simplest realization was adding security icons in our payment page. Making it more safe for the user. In result we had 8% conversation rate.

 ### 10. I like using Lookback overall, but I do wish there were a few things that were different.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Goods | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2018

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

I really like how I can add notes to the videos and also easily watch the old recordings and rewind/fast forward easily. I like the ease that lookback gives people, I am able to watch a live session from anywhere and also able to go back and refer to old recordings.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

I really don't like how I cannot close the chat portion when viewing sessions on lookback. I usually use slack to contact the user research moderator instead of using the chat/comment portion. Because I want to make the video screen larger I wish I could close the chat part. I also wish the entire block would be clickable when trying to see old recordings instead of just the text link of the participant. I also wish I didn't have to click twice to join a live session.

**Recommendations to others considering Lookback:**

I think Lookback overall is pretty simple to use, but I would definitely tell others to check out other competitors. I think my favorite part of Lookback is really the ease of watching a live session, but the most frustrating part is not being able to minimize the chat portion

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Lookback provides the benefits to employees of being able to watch and refer back to old recordings so we can analyze the user feedback later on. It helps us solve how users feel/respond to designs, content, etc. The main benefits I've seen is that employees can see the recordings live from anywhere which is awesome. Business wise, we are usually solving user problems, bringing in participants to see how they would respond, feel, or expect user flows and experiences to be.

 ### 11. Lookback for usability testing

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2018

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

One of the real innovative features of Lookback is the real-time remote user research. You can communicate directly with the users and see what they see while getting their reactions as they happen.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

It can be frustrating when the connection drops. It's only happened to me personally twice but its not cool. It only happens for a few seconds but it always seems to be right at the point I am most interested. Murphy's Law I guess.

**Recommendations to others considering Lookback:**

Consider what you are requiring to do with a user testing service as well as your budget. There are a number of services out there, you just need to find the one that's the best for you.

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used Lookback for a few different things. When we launched our new website it was helpful to get direct feedback from users. It saved us tons of time and money with the last phase of development. We also used Lookback to conduct post purchase interviews with clients. They were very impressed with the high-tech, sophisticated methods in which we conducted the interview (thanks Lookback).

 ### 12. A well built tool that I use regularly

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nick B. | UX Instructor, Higher Education, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2018

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

Lookback is really easy to set up and use. We use it regularly to record our in-house usability testing. It records both the facial reaction and the screen. My favorite part though is the ability to highlight key moments and add comments to them so that you can quickly refer to them later.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

Sadly Lookback doesn't have an iOS app. We're going to begin expanding into mobile, and I worry that we're going to have to find something else to use for testing mobile.

**Recommendations to others considering Lookback:**

The nice thing about Lookback is that it's free to try. I would recommend trying it on one of your upcoming usability tests and see if it works well for your process.

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The big issue that we're solving is that not everybody can be in the room to experience our in-person testing, and none of the stakeholders want to watch the whole thing. Lookback makes it easy to share highlights with everybody so that they can all get the value out of our usability testing.

 ### 13. Good tool, but still have to improve on tablet

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Helio C. | Senior Product Designer, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2018

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

Easy interaction
Simple UI
Videos have a nice quality
Flexible to be tested on Phone, PC and Tablet. Native App or Web.
LIVE MODERATED TESTED. Maybe the best thing.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

If users rotate the device, lookback stretches the screen and/or records part of it.
It doesn't record well where a user has tapped on the screen.
For unmoderated, users struggled with the splitting screen or/and how to show again the tasks.

**Recommendations to others considering Lookback:**

For remote User Testing, so far, and comparing to UserTesting.com this one is the best tool if you're going to use with your own audience.

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Remote user testing as most of the users are all over UK and as they are internal users, the amount spent to bring them over to a physical lab would be a way more expensive. Also, there is a possibility for the stakeholders to observe the test online and live.

 ### 14. Great way to do research remotely

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 27, 2018

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

I love that I can get this level of customer feedback without having to actually be in the room with a customer. I like that only minimal software is needed to get running. We have some remote employees so this also works well for presenting and gathering feedback with those members.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

I wish the tool worked with any browser but I understand the challenge they have. Some customers might not be allowed to install Chrome extensions so that can be a challenge.

**Recommendations to others considering Lookback:**

This is easy enough for anyone to get setup in a short amount of time. It really has a lot of good functionality and valuable user testing.

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

By using Lookback I can get internal company feedback or customer feedback without a lot of overhead. This gives me and the recipient flexibility as to when they take the test I setup. I also like that I can use a live session to get feedback without being there.

 ### 15. LookBack is a great tool for usability testing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Max G. | Senior Web Designer, Telecommunications, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2018

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

I really love LookBack. It's a great tool for conducting live, remote usability tests. The options for watching users interact with your website or app, while also doing a simultaneous video chat, are really fantastic. It's also great that you can invite team members to observe sessions.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

Every once in a while, I run into connectivity issues during sessions. While this is rare, it's extremely frustrating when it does happen... ugh.

**Recommendations to others considering Lookback:**

LookBack really is leaps and bounds ahead of ahead of other tools. It's the only one I've found that can do remote usability testing for native apps as well as websites.

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use LookBack in order to conduct remote and in-person usability tests and user interviews. It's great for recording sessions, including screen activity, audio, and video.

 ### 16. Simple tool that needs more reliability

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2018

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

Very easy to use and get going with recording. Videos are centralized and easily accessible. Caption or annotation feature is useful.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

Videos tend to take a while to upload to the cloud. There's no option to save videos locally, and we've lost videos that weren't able to uploaded properly.

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Video recording of user interviews or usability testing.

 ### 17. Great Usability Testing Tool!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chloe Alexandra M. | UX Design Lead, Internet, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 19, 2018

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

LookBack is a great usability testing tool. I love that you can actually test mobile sites remotely and still get video of both the screen and the participant's face.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

Absolutely no complaints here. LookBack has been totally solid.

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

LookBack makes remote usability testing simple. This saves us a ton of time/money since we can use remote participants rather than local ones.

 ### 18. Works great for in person or remote

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

Everything is now stored on the cloud. Instead of having to have an external hard drive.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

Buggy. Sometimes sound or video cuts out mid session for remote observers.

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Stream sessions, record, create clips.

 ### 19. Simply the Best Usability Testing Tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lily J. | Senior UX Designer, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 23, 2018

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

LookBack is a fantastic user interview app. You'll love the option to export videos and the ability to collaborate with team members.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

LookBack is fantastic, but I wish it didn't make users download and install plugins...

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use LookBack for user interviews.

 ### 20. Great for mobile user testing

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2018

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

In our experience, Lookback has been extremely useful in gathering feedback from real users on our UX on mobile. We often work with very non-tech-savvy users when we are testing and the platform is simple enough that they can use it independently on their end.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

We've had experiences where the user cut out or recording appeared slow. These aren't common but they happen - could be related to the user's internet connection.

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have tried other things like Zoom for the same purposes, but nothing has been as user-friendly or effective as Lookback for mobile user testing.

 ### 21. LookBack is simply amazing!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lucy H. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 18, 2018

**What do you like best about Lookback?**

It's fantastic to be able to test our forthcoming iPhone app remotely with live users.

**What do you dislike about Lookback?**

Absolutely no complaints here. Really impressed with LookBack.

**What problems is Lookback solving and how is that benefiting you?**

LookBack helps us test our upcoming mobile app with remote users.
