Essential for any .NET developer working with LINQ technology for data extraction and query generation against SQL Server databases in my case. It is a query simulator that is very easy and simple to use; you just need to configure the connection or connections to the databases you need and choose the language in which the statements are written. Once that's done, you just need to write or paste the query if you already have it created and want to test it, and execute to see the results. The results can be easily exported. It should also be noted that the free version is somewhat limited. I say this because the paid version includes a query generator with LINQ code from SQL queries, which means that it is not necessary to have an in-depth knowledge of this technology to work with it as long as you have this tool at hand and can pay for the license. Version by version, new features are added that make it even more attractive. I could add more things, but basically, it serves the purposes already mentioned. As a less strong point, which is not negative unless you don't know this language, is that the free version does not include the SQL to Linq query converter. LinqPad, even in its free version, allows you to quickly and easily create small programs in C# or VB.net without the added bulk of utilizing Visual Studio as full IDE. That doesn't really imply that its lacking in anything just because its small - after registered, you get a lot of really great additions like Intellisense.

Not only that, but it can also be connected to most major databases (and there are even some third party plugins to utilize other data sources, like SOAP services for example) - which allows you to quickly create an Entity Framework - esque type query and do C# actions in it. Incredible tool for converting SQL Server queries to LINQ. The free version does not include this feature. It also allows executing queries on a database through direct connection to it, and is capable of detecting available servers to facilitate the connection.
