Once installed, management is extremely easy to modify and update. Students are locked in the filter at all times. **What do you dislike about Lightspeed Filter?** My only suggestion at this time is to somehow display if devices have been refreshed and/or received the latest modification. Sometimes changes occur within seconds on a device and sometimes it can take 5-10 minutes before you can verify the change on the device. **What problems is Lightspeed Filter solving and how is that benefiting you?** Filtering is no longer a problem with Relay. It always works and we don't have to concern ourselves with it. One major benefit we've realized is the speed of Internet traffic, especially while devices are at home, off-site. On the teacher's side of the coin, the rich features that are available in the classroom side such as view student screens, closing tabs, and sending comments to students through the interface were very useful especially during the time of COVID. Not only could the teachers monitor that their students were on task at home but they were able to assist them with any problems they ran into from a distance. **What do you dislike about Lightspeed Filter?** There is nothing I can think of besides extra features, the product has a lot of features already and Lightspeed is always working on more. But more features are always nice. **Recommendations to others considering Lightspeed Filter:** I would recommend Relay to anybody that is looking for a solid solution to push out to their schools to protect students and support teachers. **What problems is Lightspeed Filter solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are able to solve student filtering issues with ease as well as student safety. I have used or demo'd many other filters like GoGuardian and Securly but neither one of these comes close to what Relay offers and delivers on. With GoGuardian and Securly the Youtube filter was not as robust as Relays, most schools feel as though it is impossible to filter and manage Youtube without blocking the site outright. With Relay this is not an issue and we are able to allow the rich and educational content of Youtube for students to discover without having a 3rd party product allow these videos. ### 8. I don't have an extensive background in computers, and I was able to read the product directions and roll this product out on our school devices with ease. Relay and Mobile Manager have given us peace of mind and allowed us to have eyes on our student's internet activity. The ability to block specific sites and phrases on student devices has made all the difference in cutting back on internet-related discipline issues. **What do you dislike about Lightspeed Filter?** I have no significant issues with Lightspeed. I have run into problems when I have updated the OS on student Macbooks, and Lightspeed has not adjusted their product specs to match the OS update. It has allowed us to stay connected to our student devices, contain security threats, and give insight into our student's state of mind. It is better to know you are setting things up right than to have to go back and fix them later. It helps us keep track of web traffic and tie it to the student. **What do you dislike about Lightspeed Filter?** It is a painful process to deploy on MacBooks. The only issues we've had have been due to deployment issues. I wish it was as simple as running a .pkg on MacBooks. Instead we had to use a login script. **Recommendations to others considering Lightspeed Filter:** If you're looking to implement a content filter on your student devices, I would recommend making sure that the features you are interested in are supported on your device platform. We are able to provide valuable information to their parents and helps the students keep engaged in their education knowing they are filtered. **What do you dislike about Lightspeed Filter?** Not being able to run reports past 30 days. Some parents would like to see their student's progression in the use of websites to see if they kept away from certain area. **Recommendations to others considering Lightspeed Filter:** I have been using Lightspeed Systems since 2007 while at a school in Tennessee. I immediately recommended and installed the system here in Virginia back in 2013. We love it and no other system has come close to beating what LS has available and the ease of using it! **What problems is Lightspeed Filter solving and how is that benefiting you?** We currently had a new employee, our new nurse, plug in her iPhone into her school's desktop computer. Within minutes she was locked out. Upon researching the issue, it was due to her having a TikTok app on her phone, which was filtered via Relay. She was locked out but the system allowed her back in within the time we had set. This confirmed that the settings work even when the staff/students use their other tech devices on our wifi. ### 16. If you need to manage multiple chromebooks in an Educational setting then Relay is a no-brainer. We have the ability to set up our config in Google Admin, so that the Relay software is tied to the student (not the device), and then the software automatically is installed and runs on any chromebook that the student uses from that point forward. Also, a big plus for us was the ability to manage Youtube at a granular level. We don't want to block Youtube altogether, but it has to be limited otherwise it becomes one of the biggest distractions that teachers deal with. So with Relay we can block the comments, turn off the playlist auto-play feature, and block or allow individual videos or channels. **What do you dislike about Lightspeed Filter?** The process of moving/managing students is a little tedious. The students are imported automatically from Google Admin, however they initially weren't being put in the correct 'building' so I had to move them manually. However, that may not be an issue now as Lightspeed has been making some improvements and changes to Relay. (I haven't had to get in there and do that for several months because of the Covid complications that we are working under). **Recommendations to others considering Lightspeed Filter:** If you need to manage chromebooks in your organization and you are a G Suite for Enterprise/Education customer, then this software is a must have. **What problems is Lightspeed Filter solving and how is that benefiting you?** The ease of web filtering, and the visibility that it gives us, is an absolute must. Relay allows my administrators the ability to easily see what the students are doing online. That wasn't an option before as our filtering system was onsite and too complicated ... therefore I was the only one that could log into it. ### 17. It makes it really easy to drill down to the specifics of what a user or users have been viewing. It is also very easy to deploy to our student Chromebooks to allow filtering even when off our network. **What do you dislike about Lightspeed Filter?** We had some difficulty with the Mac and Windows Relay clients early on, but those have been resolved. The Chrome extension works flawlessly. **Recommendations to others considering Lightspeed Filter:** Consider using Active Directory or Google as your user and group management. **What problems is Lightspeed Filter solving and how is that benefiting you?** Relay allows us to filter our students' Internet activity no matter where they log in from. The Chrome Relay Agent is simple to deploy from G Suite and helps protect our students from inappropriate content. ### 25. Lightspeed works! I have yet to contact support about it, but I will in the coming weeks and I am sure that they will get it taken care of as I have always had good experiences with their support. Also, sometimes the management portal is a little sluggish. I am not really sure why this is. **Recommendations to others considering Lightspeed Filter:** The setup and usage is fairly easy, the only thing that I would recommend is to set aside an afternoon when you are not bothered to get everything going. **What problems is Lightspeed Filter solving and how is that benefiting you?** Desktop monitoring and web filtering. One of the portions of relay that has been handy is the teacher's ability to see what is going on while the students are on their Chromebooks. They love this capability. It allows them to keep the students on task and to make sure that they are not doing things that they don't need to be doing. This becomes handy for our AMI days, as the teachers can help students from home as well. As long as they are logged in and the teacher is in the classroom relay portal, they can click on the class that the student is in and see what the student is working on and help them if they are having trouble. This has been a great feature for the last couple of years since we have started to work with these days in place of snow days, helping to keep our students from having to go to school later in the summer. ### 27. Even though many of the alerts are not actionable, I would rather have that than missing even one authentic alert. Filtering by category is also a godsend. We would never get the level of filtering we need if we had to enter each category. **What do you dislike about Lightspeed Filter?** We have a lot of requests to see history for specific students. While we can do that, it's usually not appropriate in the cases in which it's requested. It's not really a dislike about Relay, however. **What problems is Lightspeed Filter solving and how is that benefiting you?** As mentioned above, we are able to granulate our filtering rules to a level that we would not have been able to realize. This does the job. With the alerts, and the ability to dig into a users browser history, behavior management is easy. When you can show a student (and the parents if need be) exactly which sites were visited, and exactly what search strings were used, it is easy to determine intent, and to address that behavior. ### 31. The reporting is simple and ties in with Google Classroom which is great when your teachers use the Classroom student monitoring tool. The overview windows gives good insight into what's going on. We have caught inappropriate use and app installation and have been able to resolve those issues with the students. **What do you dislike about Lightspeed Filter?** The only issue I have with it is allowing some youtube videos. The task is supposed to be made easy by an "Allow" button that teachers see below blocked videos but even if they click allow it doesn't always work. It would be nice if it would instantly report if a number of attempts were made to directly access certain sites in a blocked category. **Recommendations to others considering Lightspeed Filter:** It has really worked well for us. It has been easy to install and manage. **What problems is Lightspeed Filter solving and how is that benefiting you?** Filtering chromebooks is our main issue we resolve through use of the Relay We Filter. Support staff at Lightspeed is also one of the top notch support systems available to busy Tech Coordinators in Schools. You can chat directly through the Lightspeed Relay dashboard or if you have a more complicated problem, you can submit a ticket at which a knowledgeable support tech will call you back and remotely work on the filter. Relay gives us much better visibility of what is being down on our school purchased devices. **What do you dislike about Lightspeed Filter?** I don't like the 100 video limit for Youtube per school, as we are running out. I don't like that the relay-rocket deployment prevents the user from being able to authenticate if needed. **What problems is Lightspeed Filter solving and how is that benefiting you?** Relay has cut down on the number of inappropriate websites and images that our students can access. Keep in mind though. Support has virtually always solved my issues. So it's not about competency troubleshooting their own product. It's just response time over the years has never changed. I've been a customer for over 12 years and it never fails for me to submit a ticket and actually have that ticket responded to the same day. And if they do respond that day. It is always 6pm after I've gone home for the day. **Recommendations to others considering Lightspeed Filter:** Lightspeed in general is a major player in the filtering game of products available. I have reviewed many products over the years threatening to make a change based on my disappointments with support. But the reality is all the filtering products work much in the same way and at the end of the day. They all have the same hurdles to overcome in the filtering world. It is easy to find your way around the site, and the front page dashboard gives you a nice overview of all devices and users in your organization. One of the best features is being able to deploy apps straight from the management console, and you can upgrade the iOS on devices as a management feature. **What do you dislike about Lightspeed Filter?** One of the downsides is not being able to mass import devices into groups by asset tag identification. Currently this feature is only via device serial number. **Recommendations to others considering Lightspeed Filter:** Give them a try! When they released a chromebook management solution (Relay), they allowed me to have a window to try it out before purchasing. They may do the same for you wtih Mobile manager. **What problems is Lightspeed Filter solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have a problem of students downloading apps that shouldn't be on their iPads.
