User-friendly legal research **Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Angeline L. | Writer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2019 **What do you like best about Practical Guidance®?** (Disclaimer: at the time of my summer work, I'm not entirely sure whether I used Lexis Practice Advisor or Westlaw Practical Law. I'm pretty sure I used Lexis PA; I may have used both. I definitely used Lexis Advance, though, and since I wasn't able to prove that I had used it, my Lexis Advance review went astray. This is my attempt to make up for that). Lexis, much like Westlaw, is a comprehensive legal search engine (and, in my opinion, has much better/more intuitive graphic design). Lexis Advance is a useful shortcut to legal research, especially when drafting particular types of documents. **What do you dislike about Practical Guidance®?** There's little to dislike. Ideally, one would use Lexis and Westlaw, and possibly other sources, for completeness of legal research. **What problems is Practical Guidance® solving and how is that benefiting you?** Lexis (including Practice Advisor) helps streamline legal research through its focused approach and user-friendly design. ### 2. Before I'd have to do a simple google search and cross my fingers. **What do you dislike about Practical Guidance®?** Downsides... my practice is somewhat niche (aviation) so there isn't a section dedicated to my practice. BUT my clients have standard business/corpoate needs and there is always something available regarding corporate governance, business transactions, insurance needs, etc. **Recommendations to others considering Practical Guidance®:** Give it a test run and see what additional services your firm should be providing. **What problems is Practical Guidance® solving and how is that benefiting you?** New forms/templates I didn't previously have. Great articles to familiarize myself with an area of law. Checklists I print out and use to make sure I'm crossing my T's and dotting my I's. ### 3. Fantastic Legal Tool **Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Jennifer W. | Attorney, Legal Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** August 21, 2019 **What do you like best about Practical Guidance®?** I do transaction and litigation work and find Practice Advisor to be an invaluable tool for my practice, especially for drafting documents that are new to me and educating me on new areas of law. **What do you dislike about Practical Guidance®?** The only issue I have is that my state has certain nuances that are not always addressed with the templates, so I may have to do additional research to make sure I am complying with state law. **What problems is Practical Guidance® solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am far more efficient and able to always have a starting point with drafting using Practice Advisor. ### 4. I liked the search feature, and many of the documents and practice notes I reviewed were very informative and helpful. **What do you dislike about Practical Guidance®?** The sales rep dinked me around when trying to renew. He forgot all about me for 2 weeks, when he was supposed to have tried to get a deal approved, and then called me like we had never spoken before. When I reminded him of it, he kept telling me things like "that's going to come out of my pocket", which I can be sympathetic towards, however, he kept dropping the ball so much that my entire business with Lexis fell all the way out of his pocket anyway!! It was frustrating that I couldn't get another rep assigned to me, because he was terrible. **Recommendations to others considering Practical Guidance®:** Just be prepared for them to try to upsell you on things you don't need or want. While I enjoyed the platform itself, the customer service when trying to renew was awful. Trying to negotiate a deal, and then starting from scratch when the guy that was supposed to get back to you with approvals forgot all about you, then called you as if it were the first time and having to remind him of what he should have finished 2 weeks ago. It was frustrating, because they assign reps to territories, so there was no way for me to work with somebody else. **What problems is Practical Guidance® solving and how is that benefiting you?** It gave me great intel and education on legal topics when I needed help, including important forms so I didn't have to start from scratch. ### 5. For example, if you're looking for artificial intelligence related clauses in contracts, you won't find anything like that here. **What problems is Practical Guidance® solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a transactional attorney, I use Lexis Practice Advisor to find documents to use as a reference for my current projects as well as many different articles relating to what work I need to do. ### 6. If you are not in corporate law, this program is not really that useful. ### 9.
