What do you like best about Leapfrog Geo?

What I like most about Leapfrog Geo is its speed and the ability to test multiple hypotheses quickly. It lets me rapidly evaluate different modelling scenarios. During a recent due diligence, I was able to test three different geologic models to give me a range of outcomes, which helped me understand the range of different outcomes possible from the data set and allowed for effective underwriting. The implicit modelling and parameter testing were the most impactful parts of the workflow for me. I really appreciate how Leapfrog Geo reliably turns complex, multi-source subsurface data into cohesive, high-quality 3D geological models for our geothermal and oil operations. It handles drilling data, fault interpretations, and formation properties seamlessly, saving us countless hours of manual work. The software is incredibly stable even with large datasets, so we don’t experience frequent crashes or slow recalculations. The visualization is clear and intuitive, allowing our engineers, project managers, and external regulators to understand subsurface conditions without needing advanced geological training. What do you dislike about Leapfrog Geo?

One pain point is handling large-scale seismic data integration. Importing and processing dense seismic datasets can be slow and resource-heavy, often requiring significant computing power and causing delays when we’re working on deep regional models. More optimized handling of seismic data would speed up our modeling cycle considerably. We also find the automated reservoir volume and permeability calculations less flexible than we’d like. For geothermal projects specifically, we often need to adjust parameters to match local thermal and hydrogeological conditions, but the software doesn’t offer as many customizable templates for energy-focused analysis as we would prefer. One thing I’d really like to see improved is better native integration with industry-standard energy software we use daily in Lower Bavaria, such as Petrel, ArcGIS Pro, and SQL-based well databases. Right now, moving data between platforms often involves manual exports, conversions, or cleanup, which adds unnecessary work and introduces small errors. It would also be extremely helpful to have pre-built templates specifically for geothermal and deep groundwater projects, not just mining or conventional oil and gas. Things like thermal gradient modeling, heat reservoir estimation, and regional fault analysis for geothermal could be more automated out of the box. Another suggestion is enhanced reporting tools designed for German regulatory submissions. Bavarian energy authorities require very specific formatting and documentation, and having customizable, compliant report templates would save our team hours each week. My only "but" is related to the use of the license. When paying for a 24-hour license, one should be able to pause the usage time, not have it be 24 consecutive hours, as it is very costly that way. Sometimes there are projects where one has to work a few hours a day, then another day, and thus it becomes impossible to pay for the license without skyrocketing costs. Most reporting and grading layouts in Leapfrog Geo are designed for precious metals and complex hard-rock deposits, not the industrial minerals and bulk materials we focus on. As a result, generated reports often include irrelevant metrics, missing material properties, and formatting that doesn’t meet German mining authority standards.
