Users have been able to learn the software with ease and many users have become power users on their own. **What problems is LanSchool solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have used it to lock down machines during quizzes/exams to protect the integrity of them. My absolute favorite features are: restricting websites, banned word list and the ability to send messages to my students while they are on the computer. Each year I have a few students that need constant monitoring and redirecting. I used to like the sound bite from the game doom that happened whenever you opened a student window. Griff Pope provides excellent tech support I like the tech console. **What do you dislike about LanSchool?** Lanschool report server is still very poor. Almost an afterthought. Unable to effectively sort event by date. Drilling into student behaviour is critical in investigating incidents. Compare with familyzone for an effective student behaviour montoring tool. Annual maintenance is relatively expensive (to purchase) with little changes between versions - Is it being activily developed? **What problems is LanSchool solving and how is that benefiting you?** Used exclusively to monitor student classroom behaviour Underused as a teaching tool. Surveys, curriculum etc are normally used through the College LMS. Using LanSchool for this is confusing to teachers as the LMS tools integrate better. ### 4. I can block certain sites, or say they can only be on a particular site **What do you dislike about LanSchool?** Students HAVE to login in order for lanschool to work. They don't want to be logged in. It is slow to update, so students can flip back and forth between sites and not get caught. I would prefer it on my laptop, but it is a desktop program only. Program doesn't refresh when students log off for more than 20 min. I have to go and restart the whole thing and hope it works **What problems is LanSchool solving and how is that benefiting you?** Students know I can track what they are doing, so they don't try to cheat as often. I like the push out feature. ### 5. We have run into network issues due to new features that were implemented but were corrected once registry "hacks" were made. Per the recommendation of Lanschool support. Previous versions worked great but it appears that Windows 10 and new network equipment need to be configured a bit differently then what was previously needed. **What problems is LanSchool solving and how is that benefiting you?** Teachers use it for monitoring classes but we (Tech Department) usually use it for quickly making mass changes on a lab without having to deploy anything. It's very useful for our field tech's to remotely monitor and assist a class with a random issue that occurs. ### 6. It is very helpful when I am helping other students, I can always look at my screen and make sure everyone is on their lessons and are not being side tracked by music videos or movies. **What do you dislike about LanSchool?** I teach at a discipline school and students are not allowed to listen to music or watch videos or movies on youtube or any other website. Unfortunately, LanSchool is easy to hack for our students. Please be aware of this before committing to this program. I don't know if all programs that are similar to LanSchool are like this, I just know about LanSchool. It does help enormously differentiating a lesson while have everyone actively involved and on topic. **What do you dislike about LanSchool?** You are constantly subject to the whims and woes of your internet throughput. You will have to exit from the teacher console every few hours (I suspect because of RAM utilization) or deal with an eventual increasingly laggy interface, that's easily resolved in under 2 minutes; but when your bandwidth is being tested LanSchool crawls. **What problems is LanSchool solving and how is that benefiting you?** Keeping all students on task by limiting/removing the constant distractors. ### 14. I specifically enjoy the teacher to student chat feature for providing "private" feedback to students on their classroom engagement. **What do you dislike about LanSchool?** There is not anything that I can say that I dislike about this product. It has functioned as it was intended and the benefits are well worth the cost. **What problems is LanSchool solving and how is that benefiting you?** This has been wonderful for monitoring student online tests!!!! The way my lab is set it is impossible to see all screens at the same time to verify that students are on task when using the computer to take tests. ### 15. While it's fabulous to be able to remotely monitor access, if it's not programmed or setup correctly, it can present a nightmare, especially if having to track down the teacher who accidentally froze a student's computer. **Recommendations to others considering LanSchool:** Not always user friendly - having a webtech available to offer help made it much easier **What problems is LanSchool solving and how is that benefiting you?** Inappropriate website access, classroom management, website redirection, restriction or blocking of an individual or entire group of student computers ### 30. It's an easy to use tool and doesn't require much training for the teachers. **What do you dislike about LanSchool?** It is fiddly and occasionally breaks down with no reason. I would like for it to be more stable - especially between versions. **Recommendations to others considering LanSchool:** Lanschool is helpful to teachers, but it is not a cure all. I would recommend having some implementation for teaching the teachers, and an informational meeting so they realize it is not the magic wand, but rather another tool in their arsenal. **What problems is LanSchool solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is an essential tool for our teachers to use during an active class period day. ### 50. It is an easy time-management tool that simply lets a student know they are off-task and need to implement better time-management tools in the classroom. **What do you dislike about LanSchool?** The hardest part is that some teachers, including myself, will forget to sign-off of LanSchool when students head to another class. Therefore, it can be disruptive for the learning process and students absolutely will not concentrate if they know another teacher is "watching them." We had a lot of glitches with our Lenovo Think Pad laptops last year and even this year. I simply quit using the system at the end of the year. At the beginning of the year it was effective, but it also took over two months for the software to work properly. **Recommendations to others considering LanSchool:** Easy for monitoring, however there are some glitches. **What problems is LanSchool solving and how is that benefiting you?** At this time, our school district is simply using the device as a monitoring tool and we have not promoted any business practices. However, the benefits for students are great for decreasing procrastination in the classroom and focus.
