**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2018

**What do you like best about LabVIEW?**

Few things that I like about LabView are:
1) It has a very good graphical user interface that makes it really easy to use.
2) Debugging is very easy.
3) It takes very less time to make a simple program.
4) 3rd Party hardware like Arduino is also supported.

**What do you dislike about LabVIEW?**

the things that I dislike about Labview are:
1) Its easy to collect data in Labview but processing it is quite difficult. I had to use matlab plenty of time.
2) Matlab simulink also has similiar gui interface, so its better to use Matlab as we get traditional coding ability as well.
3) Its quite heavy. It consumed 50 GBs of space during installation. so you really need a good Cpu to work with it.
4) I didnt find good tutorials for it. Support for Labview is no way comparable to that of Matlab.

**Recommendations to others considering LabVIEW:**

I would recommend it for data acquisition purpose only.

**What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used Labview for data acquisition in my robotics application. It was quite easy to do that as there were already modules available and I need to just connect them in order. It was just a plug and play for me.

LabVIEW allows for quick bringup of tests and its easy to understand programming environment allows for almost anyone to get started using the program.

**What do you dislike about LabVIEW?**

There is some compatibility issues that you will run into. Whether ita having the wrong version of LabVIEW itself, or unknowingly installing to new of a version of a driver.

**Recommendations to others considering LabVIEW:**

Taking the paid training is helpful but not required. Online trials and simply looking at simple programs can introduce a user to the programming environment. Modifying others programs and seeing the results will help the novice learn the programming styles. The beauty of LabVIEW is the ease of learning to be a basic user.

**What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Use LabVIEW for automating testets on the manufacturing line as well as for quickly bringingup & modifying tests in the R&D lab. This saves us time and allows more people to be able to write and modify the programs.

  ### 24. A must have for all experimental data acquisition systems!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Abdullah Umair B. | Doctoral Candidate - Advanced Engine Research Lab, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 01, 2018

**What do you like best about LabVIEW?**

>User Friendly: I was recently introduced to LabView by my professor last year when we had to install some new thermocouples to an engine. I was pleasantry surprised to find myself making my first VI within a week that was able to not only log temperature readings from the thermocouple but turn on and off switches based on those readings.

>Help Resources: LabView has great help resources with really detailed online tutorials available on NI's website and an active online community of users.

**What do you dislike about LabVIEW?**

>It is difficult to troubleshoot VI's made by anyone other than yourself because the error messages don't do a good job at pinpointing the exact problem.
>I've also had problems with some of my VI's which were made in a certain version of the software and were not compatible with the new version once the software was updated.

**Recommendations to others considering LabVIEW:**

It is a great tool for anyone taking any sorts of experimental data.

**What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As an experimentalist I use labview to connect my sensors to the data acquisition system and have various controls (graphically) coded in to control various experimental parameters.

  ### 25. Fast code development for people without a CS degree

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Carlton H. | Senior Software Architect, Industrial Automation, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 09, 2018

**What do you like best about LabVIEW?**

The graphical nature makes it easy for me to understand the flow of someone else's code and learn quickly. The debugging features are probably the best I've come across with the highlight execution. Support is good and it's easy to create very modular code.

**What do you dislike about LabVIEW?**

Sometimes seems a bit bloated in that if I want to create a very simple EXE then there's a lot of stuff that has to install around it. The controls for the user interface are very limited and creating custom controls is a real pain. Going to vector based graphics will be nice but so far NXG is not usable for developers creating programs for clients.

**Recommendations to others considering LabVIEW:**

If you are wanting to develop test applications quickly then this is the best software available, especially if you do not have an established team of software developers who have computer science backgrounds.

**What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My company uses LabVIEW as the primary software development environment. We mainly use it for automated testing systems in labs. The tight integration between NI hardware and software makes deployment much easier and we can develop software at a very rapid pace.

**What do you like best about LabVIEW?**

Bloack diagram based, easy to understand, lots of support online.

**What do you dislike about LabVIEW?**

No support between versions, if it is opened in 2018, it cannot be opened in 2017.

**Recommendations to others considering LabVIEW:**

Do It

**What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Last semester we used LabVIEW to program a SCADA system for our final project. We also wrote a communication protocol. This would have been impossible for a student to do in any other software.

  ### 27. Finest tool for Lab automation and measurement!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Varun S. | Design Engineer Intern, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about LabVIEW?**

It's Graphical User Interface makes it extremely easy to use even for a bigger design. One can highlight the particular part of design and see/debug if the design is working as required. Technical support from National Instrument is very helpful.
It's ability to record and analyze high-precision low-level measurements makes it a really useful tool for scientific purposes. A whole control system design can be easily. DAQ assistant is really useful for capturing data from high precision device.

**What do you dislike about LabVIEW?**

There is almost nothing that I dislike about this product!

**What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When I was working as a Project Fellow at National Physical Laboratory, I used LabVIEW for automating the lab measurement setup so that readings are automatically recorded and one don't have to take each reading manually. It saved a lot of time and increased our teams efficiency tremendously as I start recording the measurements when I leave the work and check the measurements log generated by LabVIEW next morning.

  ### 28. Convenient but confusing tool for hardware-software interface solutions

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2018

**What do you like best about LabVIEW?**

DAQ compatibility makes it a great tool to interface with hardware tools and get real data from electrical sensors for my purposes. LabView also allows you to input various equations and acquire data easily. Very powerful tool. The visualizations of block diagrams is nice, as is the live view of waveforms created from the acquired data.

**What do you dislike about LabVIEW?**

The interface is a little hard to use and understand. Inputting formulae is a bit of a pain because of inbuilt methods of writing equations and parentheses/operation hierarchies. The software takes a large amount of time and usage before you can fully master and understand how to use it.

**Recommendations to others considering LabVIEW:**

Good software that meets your needs for hardware to software interfacing.

**What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use the software for interfacing with sensors on a breadboard and also to acquire data from an oscilloscope. I use the DAQ to interface with pulse oximeter type sensors and collect data, as well as temperature thermistors using the same.

**What do you like best about LabVIEW?**

One of the main features that i have found very useful is the highlight execution. As a entry level programmer to be able to see if the code being executed the way you programmed is great.

**What do you dislike about LabVIEW?**

So far I don't have anything to dislike. Because I'm a novice programmer mostly frustrated when something doesn't work as planned but after some online research and help from senior engineers those problems get resoloved.

**Recommendations to others considering LabVIEW:**

If you have not used a graphical programming before the learning curve would be steeper. But if you stick with it becomes easier as you familiarized with program

**What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm using this product for an automatic power converter test stand. One of the main benefits is that Labview creates a UI by itself for its inputs and outputs and doesn't need a another program to do it.

  ### 33. I used it at college and built some cool projects with it

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

  ### 34. A Must-Have Programming Tool for Laboratory Research

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2017

**What do you like best about LabVIEW?**

LabVIEW is very convenient interface programming software for all science & engineering laboratories. Especially for the Physics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science departments in Universities or National labs, it is probably one of the most common programming software. As a materials scientist myself, I use all different instruments to set up my experiments. I use LabVIEW all the time for all sorts of electrical, magnetic, optoelectric measurements. It is easy to learn and easy to program because it is all graphical. The front control panel is very user-friendly as well.

**What do you dislike about LabVIEW?**

If I am going to create a large/long program, the debug process can be very long and tricky. It takes time to find out where exactly the error message comes from. Another disadvantage is connecting the elder instrument, e.g. RS-232, interface, the code can be complicated or sometimes not easy to find the command in those instruments which we have to switch to manual control.

**Recommendations to others considering LabVIEW:**

1. It is easier to start with some programs made by others and trying to understand their program rather than start from "zero" and write everything from the beginning.
2. Read the interface control section of the manual of a specific instrument first before writing your program.

**What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It saves a lot of time in multiple or serial measurements. Most of the time, I just need to start the program, let it run overnight, and I can have all the data or even plots the next day. In our lab, we actually have all the program written by the earlier graduates. The program is easy to modify. So most of the time, we do not need to write a program from the beginning.

Building the customized equipments set.

  ### 37. LabVIEW is best programming language.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jim L. | Computer Software, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2017

**What do you like best about LabVIEW?**

I have programmed computers using many different programming languages, and I have found LabVIEW to be the best. It is easy to code and fast to complete projects. National Instruments claims that it is 10 times faster to code using it and I agree.

**What do you dislike about LabVIEW?**

There are a lot of little deficiencies in the details of the language that could be better. Kind of like death by 1,000 cuts. Nothing major, but many little things. It could use some polishing up I would say.

**Recommendations to others considering LabVIEW:**

Great language that is not in the main stream.

**What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used LabVIEW most recently both as a developer of programs, and as a consultant advising companies on which programing language to chose for programming autonomous vehicles. When writing code , the application was GPS satellites. Both applications are excellent choices for LabVIEW because they are a good match because both require interfacing with hardware.

  ### 38. Popular and Strong Control Software Program

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 15, 2018

**What do you like best about LabVIEW?**

Build-in libraries to allow user to build a control application immediately. More importantly, LABVIEW is the best in terms of supporting hardware equipment.

**What do you dislike about LabVIEW?**

GUI is not very friendly and LABVIEW is not a text-based programming, therefore creating difficulty for new users.

**What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use LABVIEW to perform testing in our lab at the University, mostly to control electrometer, source-meter, function generator and to acquire data from NI acquisition system.

  ### 39. Good language but steep learning curve

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Nanotechnology | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 20, 2018

**What do you like best about LabVIEW?**

Great libraries and integration. It’s also highly portable given the nature of the program. You can do much more than you would anticipate.

**What do you dislike about LabVIEW?**

Can be hard to find actual functions, and the documentation is a bit sparse. There’s not a lot of resources to help you implement anything, you have to just figure it out.

**Recommendations to others considering LabVIEW:**

Watch courses on YouTube as it is a highly visual language. Unfortunately still has a long way to go in terms of materials for new users.

**What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Used for hardware control of instruments, great for real time correlation of data to make hardware decisions.

  ### 40. LabVIEW simplified hardware integration software

**What do you like best about LabVIEW?**

Only basic programming skills is needed to use the software
Nice graphic interface
Fantastic for acquiring and logging the data.

**What do you dislike about LabVIEW?**

Expensive hardware module so unless you have national intsruments hardware expect to pay at least 100$ or more on modules.
no easy way to comment code

**Recommendations to others considering LabVIEW:**

If you are into hard core programming and code customization go with another software. However, if you are looking for a simple solution to log data without programming that's your go to solution

**What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using it to log temperature, voltage, and pressure on an small angle xray setup in our lab. Extremely easy to setup and software does not crash
